Hiya

+1 to whats been said so far. The most important thing is DON'T SCRATCH!!!!!!! Scratching will make it a lot worse. My riba rash looked like hives and came and went all through my tx.

Best wishes to you and try not to scratch.

You can also take antihistamines bought over the counter - they do help a bit.  Also check you iron and ferruntin levels as this can also make you itch.  I sympathise, it is horrid there is a medication that you can take but I only had it with the old treatment.  When I had my last treatment I got home from work and wrapped myself in a cotton sheet I had left in the fridge - bliss!

Hello Maria!

Good to see you back with us and I`m glad you`ve started treatment now with Sovaldi and Riba.

Unfortunately the rash is a fairly common side effect from ribavirin and it`s not at all pleasant.  The first thing is...try not to scratch as that will only make it worse!

The best clothes to wear are loose fitting cotton garments, stay cool if you can and try and stay out of the sun.  Wash and shower in cool water rather than hot, and use mild toiletries that are less likely to irritate your skin.  Some people find an oatmeal bath helps.  Keep yourself well hydrated by drinking enough water and if necessary ask your doctor to prescribe a cream to ease the itching, or you could ask your local pharmacist to recommend one.

The most common side effects with this drug combo are fatigue, headaches, nausea, insomnia and anaemia, but it varies a lot from person to person and not everyone experiences all of them, and they often ease up as the treatment goes along and your body adjusts to the medications.

I expect other people will be able to add comments too.

Best of luck to you!

Ps - I`ve joined both of your new threads together.

On day 4 now the only side effect so far is this horrible rash caused by pretty much any fabric I wear. It itches so bad. Anyone else went through the same my nurse told me to expect a rash.

Hello all! It's been a couple months since I checked in. I joined this forum when I was diagnosed back in October. I've gone through all the processing and the denial of treatment through my insurance (medicaid the Puerto Rican version). This allowed for a wonderful foundation that collaborates with my gastro Dr. to pay for my whole treatment. words cannot express my gratitude. I am truly blessed. I am on a 3 month treatment of sovaldi and Ribavirin 1000mg. I have genotype 3. Any tips while on treatment? I know it's early on but I feel no side effects yet. How was it for others? Thank you in advance!
