Lock, I felt the same, but Vikera-pac was it or nothing. Bite the bullet. You can, and have to do it. or cough up the bucks yourself! Yikes!. It's only 12 weeks not 48. Thats all you should tell yourself. And from what I am seeing on this forum, bone pain and muscle pain are occuring with Harvoni as a Sx. Our trade off is Mr. Ribavirin. I feel great approaching EOT.  This is just my way of looking at it. Sorry to be so upfront. You will be fine. You can do it.  I lean to agreeing with you Bubble,  I'm seeing Vikera Pack is doing well. whats sad is the insurance companies call shots for us. My neighbor who was seeking TX same time as did still didn't get treatment yet, and I'm done with 24 weeks. Insurance is trying to give him Vikera Pac . He clearly has too many other issues ( diabetes , High blood pressure, stomach and bowel issues and drugs for that  Anxiety and depression drugs  hes a mess.) and all this is a real good reason why he shouldn't take Vikera-pac. Its clear in this case he shouldn't take Ribavirin. His doctor has no success in getting his appeal. This guy doesn't need those complications.

Its  all in the doctors we choose some of them just don't know how to get it for us. And this doc is not a hep C specialist so getting approval for Harvoni is not some thing he does every day.   It could be his staff as well they don't know how to follow through they have no experience with this. I've asked him many times to get in a group that specialists in HEP C - blood and Liver problems they get approval 1st shot. anyway he's almost there now.

But good luck to you Lock you sound alot more stable and able to do the Vikera Pac  and it should do you well .

Thanks for the replies, I will go with Viekira if I have to.  As long as no Incivek is involved I'll be ok.  I'll keep you all posted.  Thanks again!

Hi Lock

I can understand your point. I was on the old tx just as the new ones came out. It didn't matter much to me I just wanted the HVC gone. 12 weeks isn't that bad I guess. I would jump on it.

Good luck on your TX

Welcome back Lock.

The rash last time was almost certainly the Incivek rash.

It's annoying how Insurance is dictating drug treatments rather than your doctor.

As Jill said, SVR rates are about the same, and you won't have to stop after 8 weeks this time. Best of luck. Cheers.

Hi there Lock, good to hear from you again.

I remember you saying that your doctor had prescribed Harvoni and it must be very annoying that the insurance company has said they will not allow it.

As a Gen 1a  you would have to take ribavirin with Viekira Pak, although I should imagine it was the incivek that caused the severe rash problems last time, rather than the ribavirin.

Anyway, the success rates are about the same for both options and either treatment would be so much easier for you than the incivek triple!

Best of luck to you with whatever course of action you follow, do keep us updated!

You could appeal it, saying you can't tolerate RIBA, especially since you had such a bad rash last time. Although the Vic Pak has shown some outstanding results as well. Either way, you've got an excellent chance of success.

hi all,  My doctor has prescribed Harvoni, my insurance just called and informed me they will not allow Harvoni, but instead will recommend that my doctor prescribes Viekira.  I've read a lot about Harvoni and was pretty excited with its results during testing.  I tried triple therapy a few years ago, had to stop at 8 weeks because of severe rash.  I've now been reading about Viekira Pac.  It looks like it's  taken along with Ribavirin.  I didn't really get along with that drug before, I liked the idea of one pill once a day... Anyway I guess I'm just venting, don't like the way insurance companies dectate what meds a doctor can prescribe..
