John,

One thing I can tell you without hesitation, don't take the Silamarin (Milk Thistle) while you are on treatment. It will alter your LFT's (blood tests) and will show inaccurate results. It's recommended that you abstain from any supplements until your 12th week following the end of treatment date (EOT). That is the date your SVR blood work should be drawn to determine the success of treatment.

I'm unsure, but ursodeoxycholic acid, silymarin and propranolol were prescribed to me 10 years ago. I've had varices 10 years ago, never had any issues since, and my liver tests and everything improved. I currently have no sign of ever having any varices nor any symptoms of HCV, even though I was, at some point, technically, decompensated.

My current (1 month ago before TX start) Fibroscan was 16.2 kPa.

I would like to keep just as healthy in the future, and would prefer to continue taking it, but I was just wondering whether there are others in my position out there so wanted to reach out and ask just in case :).

Thank you for all your kind responses.

Hi again John,

You'll find that Harvoni reacts to aluminum and magnesium antacids. I see no mention of Ursofalk anywhere I've looked. It has a different chemical structure and reacts on bile versus on stomach acid. I would still contact your doctor and/or Gilead for confirmation.

Check page 11, Table 4 for drug interactions.

Hey Pup,

Welcome to the forum! There are many antacids that are contraindicated with Harvoni, so I'm unable to make an opinion on that. I do suggest that you contact Gilead at their Support Path number and ask one of their representatives. That's what they're there to do. They have staff pharmacists that can tell you. As for the Propanolol, I don't believe you should have any problems, but there are some cardiac meds that can in combination. I would ask about that just to be sure. Here's the USA link to Support Path, I don't have a UK number, sorry. They have a good, informative website with lots of info. You should also call your Hepatologist for advice if possible. I'm glad you're here!

Hi.

I just started my treatment with Harvoni + Ribavirin 12 weeks today. I'm in the UK. I was wondering if anyone here has taken Harvoni while also taking Ursofalk (and Propranolol). Ursofalk is ursodeoxycholic acid, which might be a different brand in the USA.

I was reading something about antacids not recommended with Harvoni, and I'm unsure if this is one. Ursofalk is not used to treat acid reflux or anything like that, and I'm unsure what an 'antacid' is.

I have told my doctor what I'm taking and she has recommended that I keep taking them as they don't interact with Harvoni, but I'm still in doubt and was wondering whether anyone else is actually taking (or has taken) Harvoni while also on ursodeoxycholic acid.

Much appreciated.
