Well, I just polished off a banana split. Sweets have never tasted so good. I'm starting week 6 tomorrow. Thinking I am going to be needing a new word robe if I can't get this sweet tooth under control. Feel good this week though .... :)

HI, I am on Viekira Pak too (also Ribavirin). Initially, I had no appetite and lost 3 or 4 pounds. Then around week 3 or 4 it picked up and I felt like eating things that I don't usually eat or eat rarely. Meat for one thing, seems I coudn't get enough. Very weird. I also lost my taste for some foods as well, for some reason fruit has no appeal and I love fruit. I felt like I needed to eat more frequently too. Now I have gained the 3lbs  I lost and gained another 4 lbs on top biggrin!!!! I decided not to sweat it. My goal is to get healthy and once I finish the treatment I'll deal with it.

I have 8 more days of treatment. It took 8 weeks for me to become "undetectable" but I am now!!!

Hang in  there

All the best to you all,

Maura

I also gained weight while on Harvoni and it's coming off very slowly.  The bad part was my A1C which was 5.6 in June  went to 8.4 by January!  It went down to 6.8 in May and I go in for a new test next week. So if you are borderline Type 2 be careful of your diet!

Hi Mammabear, I qualify to chime in. Have gained 12 lbs. and still going up.  Drink water to stay hydrated but the ratio between the swelling in my whole body does not translate out to the bloat. Saw my Dr. yesterday and he assured me it was the effects of the drug as my CBC was all within normal limits : ) except my platelets are low. Start out in am 5-6 lbs lighter than when I go to bed. Through the night I am busy with trips, but there is still a bloat that starts within a hr. after I take my pill in the am. Dr. said don't worry I can loose the weight when I am done with tx.. Also, usually workout 3 day's awk., but stopped because I wasn't able to move the lactic acid out of my quads for like 4 to 5 days. Very uncomfortable. So not working out and will resume when finished which is in 17 days  :  )biggrin .  Oh, also had high blood pressure for the first 3 weeks. And just a couple of time since. Hang in there, this is the real deal. Glad you are here too. All aboard.                           Marsha    Also craving sweets.

I am craving sweets like crazy. I am exercising more to try and not gain weight, but it's a losing battle. The sweets are winning!

Harvoni made me hungry.  I really enjoyed my food!   And craved sweets which isn't normal for me.  I didn't gain weight though.  I actually dropped 8 lbs and have kept it off... fingers crossed I am trying still to keep it off!    Post treatment my stomach bothers me quite a bit.  So I am eating very small portions.  That is probably why.

Oh hell yeah I'm gaining weight. So what? I don't care. I eat double what I ate before, and that's a good thing. I'll have enough time to lose it after I get rid of Hep C.

Hi Mamabear,

Yep, we've had several people mention weight gain. Also have heard about the swelling too. I'm sure you'll hear from our Harvoni warriors and think you'll get some good advice from them. Keep drinking that water! It really makes a difference.

Hello friends,

I am wondering if anyone on the Harvoni train is experiencing slow but steady weight gain. I am eating normally and continuing to gain weight with each week. I am in week 6 of treatment. I'm wondering if I should expect more gain so I can adjust my diet accordingly. I do not have any strong cravings or feel a need for more calories. I also have quite a bit of daily swelling in my legs, especially if I don't drink enough water...

Anyone?

Thank you!

mamabear
