Hi Tig,

She's crashed. Devastated. I did... I did nothing, it's all Anastasia. She's a real figther in this battle. I was able provide the support and some unsuccessful researches to find the way how to do some legal pressure on doctors.
TIPS finally killed Alex, we know it now. The doctor convinced Anastasia to install it but just lied about probability of side effects and consequencies.
She thinks that it was her final decision, agreement to install the TIPS which killed her husband.
Don't worry about me, I'm OK, just my heart is crying.

Thanks for your support.

Hey MM,

I'm so sorry to hear this. How is Anastasia holding up? And you? You worked very hard to see that Alex received the best care possible and never took no for an answer. He was in such a difficult situation following the TIPS procedure and never seemed to get past those set backs. You have been the best friend he and Anastasia could have asked for and I'm sure this is very hard to accept right now. You and Anastasia have my deepest condolences. Take care my friend and please keep in touch.

Hi MM,

so sad to hear your latest news.

At least you know that you have been the best friend and support to them both throughout this.  You couldnt do any more and what you have done has made a huge difference to both of them. I hope Anastasia finds the  strength to cope with the immediate future.

Hi MM,

Sorry to hear about this. Alex fought hard and you all gave it every effort, following every avenue you could possibly travel.

Wow, ragdoll, that is unimaginable. How on earth did you both cope with all that? I was tested recently for other Hep's as I had a gallstone passing that played havoc. But I was fine. That is a lot of Hep to have gotten, did one make it more easier to catch the others?

This is indeed sad, I am sorry to hear your friend is losing the war.

I guess the only thing you can do is to continue to be the good friend you have, and just help with any wishes he has left.

I hope you are bearing up ok...

Hello MM,

So very sorry to hear this most unfortunate news.

Your friend has put up a gallant fight and is so fortunate to have such steadfast and supporting friends as you and Anastasia.

It sounds as though everything humanly possible has been done on Alex's behalf.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, may Anastasia find strength in knowing that Alex will always be with her.

Dave

Only sad news. Alex's new liver doesn't work at all, he's connected to 4 vital systems but infection kills him... His body starts covering with open wounds - PLT <10 . Doctors ask Anastasia to sign reanimation refusal. This young woman is giving the way to despair.

Alex is alive but they didn't find any source of potential dangerous infection in suspected place... Another mystery. Anastasia is still waiting for updates from doctors.

Forgive me, but this is all I could think to say;

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

The proper rendering of the term "careful" here is "anxious".

All will be as it should be.

Take Care!

Medics found a source of unknown infection in Alex's lungs. Antibiotics do not help to kill it. This pesthole is hidden and cannot be tested without surgical operation. Medics say Alex doesn't have chances to survive after this operation but transplant team insist to do it because the infection continues to kill Alex, Anastasia finally agreed with transplant team, giving them the permission for this operation. It will be today or tomorrow... She's asking for prayers to help Alex survive.
Thanks

Received last update from Anastasia: for 2nd week Alex is in reanimation unit, kidney failure, liver doesn't work at all, sepsis and VRE. Medics are doing what they can do but the chances are too small.
Please, just pray for him...

P.S.: I'm OK, I cannot do something to help him, I'm just upset by these news... we known now when there's no updates from Anastasia the things go wrong...

Hey MM,

You sound pretty down my friend, I'm sorry to hear that Alex (all of you) are having such a rough time of it. You have all tried so hard, don't give up now. I'm sure you are all exhausted. It has been a struggle from the beginning. You have been such a good friend and support for both Anastasia and Alex, keep it up. You are all a team and we have all followed your progress through treatment and then your assistance to both of them. Anyone looking back on your comments can only be amazed with what you have been able to do for them both. You should be proud of what you've accomplished, we certainly are. Chin up buddy...

When you're up to it, fill us in. Let us do what we can to help, a good word, a prayer, whatever we can accomplish together. You've shown us what being a supportive friend is all about and I hope we can provide some degree of that to you as well.

Don't forget about yourself. You've been through a lot of your own personal stress, with treatment and now this, for months. Please take time to think about your health too. You're very important as well, don't forget that.

the way up and the way down... starting the April Alex has the problems, slow transplant rejection is present and the medical staff in rehab trying to stop this process. His liver now is F1-F2, the fibrosis grows up, his labs are very discouraging... Alex and Anastasia are both exhausted. I have nothing more to say, it's so sad...

Greetings MM,

This is by far the most incredible thread that I have ever been blessed with reading. A true testimony of the quality of man you are. To have "met" someone on a forum much like this one and taken that person so deeply into your heart is beyond words that I can find.

God richly bless all involved. Faith and confidence in Him make all the dirrference in our understanding of situations like this regardless of the final outcome.

God Bless Alex and the hands of those attending to him.

God bless the good wife Anastasia and may He keep her close and comfort her daily.

And God Bless you MM, for the kind heart of the Good Samaritan who stopped along the way to assist a stranger.

My highest Regards

JimmyK

Alex keeps going... He stays in rehabilitation center in Baltimore for liver transplants, recently did a first walk on wheel-chair with his friend from West Coast, for first time in 6 month he was able to see the sky and not a ceiling
Anastasia is so happy and believes will her husband soon, probably late spring.

Thanks Linuxter!

Alex talks, his condition is stable. Doctors accept that they did an error to move him to rehabilitation unit too early. He's in transplant unit now, they cannot find why he has so much liquid in abdomen, promised to get him ou only when Alex be able to move on he's own. Only mashed food and water with thickener.
The battle continues...

Sounds like positive developments, hopefully with time Alex will be on the mend.

Best wishes to all,

Dave

Thanks Ladies and Gentlemen!

Alex moving a little bit in bed, understands discussion but not talking... Anastasia is thinking he's just refusing talk to staff because of enormous tiredness and weakness. Scans found two arterial thrombus in his legs, possible consequence of cardiac arrest, even his PLTs are low. So, he had a urgent surgery for these thrombus.
He's still weak but alive.

It works! Don't stop!

He's woke up! Can respond "yes" with his eyes and move hands, legs when staff asks to try

Thank you for your words, CG.

Anastasia is grateful for your thoughts, friends. She's asking only for the prayers, she understands clearly that now Alex's faith is in God hands. Every thought worth. Thank you all...

Alex is in cooling bath now because his heart is instable. So medical staff is unable to CT-scan brain and tell if Alex is still alive, low temperature may influence the procedure. His abdomen is full of water, 2 litres were in lungs.

Hi MM, so sorry to hear about your friend`s recent setback, what a huge worry for Anastasia and for you too  He`s a fighter though and although he`s obviously very poorly there must still be hope for a good recovery.  I hope with all my heart that he will come through this..

You`re part of our `hepcfriends` family, MM, and as Tig said, we`re here any time to lend an ear and give you support, so please do keep us updated on your friend`s progress.

Please pass our on our concerns and good wishes to Anastasia, she is in our thoughts.  Take care, you`re a good man for caring so much...

Hi Tig,
She's looking crushed... Her words may leave an impression she's giving up but I believe it isn't. She just needs a bit of time to brace up and continue this battle.
Me and Alex we started Harvoni same day, we are the same age and more... I was always looking how he does having a thought if he can win I will be able too. And it's so painful now to see him losing this step... I hope it's just a step and he'll win the final battle. I have many thoughts now. But I don't have the words to encourage Anastasia ...

Just praying for the best...

Thanks you all... Tig, Mike, Linux, Arianne
