Hi Judith,

Don't be concerned. Monocytes can range from 0-10% of the WCC normally. They often elevate in chronic infections, and Harvoni is doing it's job and the monocytes mop up the debris.

They'll come down when the virus and liver cell debris are removed. Cheers.

You Know, you are a pioneer. This is a new drug, a new frontier and if there is an elevation in any of the blood tests, it might be wise to talk with your Dr.

Tig is correct as most of what I read is that a mild elevation of monocytes is not a cause for concern but we are not your average folk.

Talk to the Doc. Ease your mind and add to the knowledge about this drug. It might be a mild reaction to the Harvoni, as Tig suggested.

It could be nothing more than a flare up of arthritis, from what I have read. (Somewhere, I read that arthritis will elevate monocytes. Not certain what else would be elevated in that case)

Hi Judith,

Monocytes are part of the white blood cell family and are included in the CBC blood test. Having this WBC component elevated doesn't ring any alarms in my opinion. Monocytes aren't a big percentage of your white cells and can routinely fluctuate high and low. Some inflammation could be enough to cause an elevation. If you had an infection present somewhere, the entire WBC count would be elevated. While you're on treatment, you will see continual fluctuations in your CBC. Your immune system is being affected by treatment and this is likely just a response to treatment, nothing nefarious. If there were a problem, your doctor would be on top of that.  Once you're done, you'll see everything normalize (stabilize). I wouldn't worry about it.

Just had my second blood testing done. Have not talked to doctor yet but have appointment this Friday. Went online and saw my results. Everything looked good but something new was there. High (12.7) monocytes. Previous tests were okay. I am in week 8 of my Harvoni treatment. Anyone have any info on why this would elevate? I am really worried. Thanks.
