Well, going through the rest of life without having to carry a Dragon around will be considerable consolation, even with some added aches and pains as I chock up the years.

So far, since starting Tx I've experienced a notable decrease in joint pain. Haven't taken any Nsaids since early on in Tx.

I hope that lasts, joint pain has been very distracting and limiting in the past ... fingers crossed.

On my way to get the blood drawn I remembered I didn't take my morning meds ... so I ended up taking them 1-1/2 hr late today ... first time since I started that I messed that up ... not worried though, I can't imagine that small of delay will make any difference at all.

Best of luck with your labs, Dave.  Yes, competence is definitely what you want where blood draws are concerned.. where any medical procedure is concerned for that matter!

Not much longer to put up with the dreaded riba sides...  it`s a pretty nasty drug but many of us here are so thankful for what it did for us.  And so will you be when this is all over and you have your SVR, believe me!

Tig... my mother used to tell me "old age isn`t for wimps", and with each year that passes, and every new ache and pain, I`m learning how wise she was..  smile

Hey Tig,

Sorry to hear of the aches and pains ... any one of those can be disabling, let alone the combination.

Good luck with all.

Since we are fairly rural, the turnover for medical staff tends to be less fluid, I think.

The phlebotomist I usually get is always grouchy as heck with a huge chip on her shoulder ...

but excellent at what she does. Takes her time, is sure of herself, gets the paperwork right and is pretty much painless.

I'll take her over sweet but insecure and incompetent any time. smile

Hey Dave,

Your sleep schedule sounds much like mine. I sleep unfitfully for one to four hours at a time. I'm having hip pain that is secondary to spine issues, neck pain from a fracture and surgery, and now a damn toothache! Argggh! This getting old stuff is for moldy bread, not humans!

I'm sure your body is just so tired of being tired, it doesn't process normal things properly, like circadium rhythm, to begin with. It doesn't take much to goof up what was once easy to accomplish. One more week buddy and this part of the journey will be in the history books. Then the recovery can begin. Just finishing makes for a great day! Soon---

Good luck on your labs today. Do your best to avoid the neighbors and idiots on the road. I also hope you get a good lab tech. It could be a bad moment for them if they missed the vein! Not a good day for a student phlebotomist...

Slept like a baby ... till about 3:45 this morning.

Nausea upon waking and I doubt coffee is the best thing for that but it actually helped. coffeecup.gif

Won't be running any races today, goin for labs (CBC & CMP) sounds like plenty for the day ... LOL

Hey Mike,

I had the dry mouth thing too but either I've gotten totally used to it or that's mellowed out some.

Could just be that I'm hittin' the water bottle all the time too, like from the minute I take my morning meds till I hit the pillow again.

I like Trazodone much better than SSRI's, I can stop taking the Traz and it doesn't bother me ... in contrast, I had a terrible time weaning myself off of the SSRi's (don't care to ever take them again).

Yup - We're gettin' there smile

Greetings,

I am one of those weird kind of fellows that finds words fascinating.

When I consider Dave and The Dragon one word in particular comes to mind.

"gauntlet". 

Dave if you would, please consider the word. You have thrown yours down before the Dragon and he in turn has picked it up. You of course threw it down with the full intention of settling this matter between the two of you one way or the other. He picked it up with the same intention.

Dragons are Medieval in nature. Therefore, get medieval on yours. Knock the scales off the punk.

Indeed.

This is one of the reasons I parked my bike when I started the Riba.

When you go out and just try to be somewhere there always seems to be some youngster that has something to prove. I am still relatively a big boy (for an old man) and I get approached from time to time, just because.

Generally, the promise of a good spanking and sending them home to cry does the trick, but I kind of noticed during the RibaMoments I would have been more inclined to say nothing and wait for the , "Well Officer it went like this."

Not Smart so I took my keys upfront.

EOT-minus 8 ... and counting ... Houston ...

Tig - The camomile tea did the trick in getting me back to sleep (I got lucky) and your ginger ale recipe that got me to make and freeze that extract cured my nausea instantly. smile  ... Doin' fine and I can see the shine, not to worry.

I'm taking 1200mg Riba/ per day ... but not for long ... only 10200mg left to go now, lol

Found myself staring at those little blue pills for a period of time before swallowing them lately, not popping them down enthusiastically like toward the beginning of Tx. (Knowing, of course, that I need to take them but also that they are poison and killing good along with bad). Here's to a day, not far away where Riba is only found in the medical museum.

I'll pick up some Caladryl lotion tomorrow, I've got some Eucerin Eczema Relief cream that has Oatmeal and Ceramide-3 which works quite well to sooth any rash, in combo with cool or cold pack seems to hold most any of it at bay.

Doing fine, just felt like whining last night (threw myself a bitty pity party, lol)... Pouring rain but the extra Trazodone I took last night must be helping with my mood cause I'm not feeling depressed today.

The news of Caroline and Jimmy made me forget all about any/ all of the above. Good Stuff!!

Just love the visual I got of you throwing open your window and screaming that at the top of your lungs ... LOL ... Priceless ...

You could always turn on your sprinkler and "accidentally" let it shoot over the fence, if you time it right you can turn on the water just before the kids start to arrive.

As for not wanting to see people, well I can certainly relate to THAT. We don't get out much and the only time we see one side of the family is when they want something. I'm sure the Riba doesn't help any but I pretty much just prefer to be left alone ... not a fan of drama and there always seems to be an abundance of that where most crowds gather.

For your arms (or other) you might give the Eucerin cream I mentioned a try, I like it because it doesn't have any harsh chemicals, fragrance etc. recommended for babies 3 mos and older smile (a Dermatologist recommended it to me years ago ... and not for Eczema, just itch and soothing relief).

I knew there was a reason that I never wanted to work in a mine shaft ... my heart goes out to the poor little pit ponies and a lingering fart can even be worse than an inlaw that overstays their welcome (unless, of course, the inlaw has a Chihuahua, which pushes pain and suffering to a whole new level, right Jimmy?).

Hi Syd,

I'm not dismissing your basketball dilemma, but that story made me laugh out loud! I could feel your pain and the way you described it was simply hilarious. I will pray that your Spring break ends quickly. If you could find some talented young female basketball players that could beat the boys repeatedly, they'd all find somewhere else to go and give up their basketball obsession. It is good to see the kids outside instead of hiding behind a game console though! 

Have you tried hydrocortisone cream on the rash? If you have a product called Gold Bond Ultimate lotion in your stores, it's a good product too. It might save your arms before they turn into shoes and calm down some of the discomfort. 

I can't wait to see what Dave does with your closing. Pit ponies, mine shafts and bad farts? Oh my, I believe he'll run with that combination! You made me smile smile

Hi Dave, Tig and friends,

so glad you are having blood tests relatively soon Dave. You must be so low in haemoglobin  to feel so weak. i love the clips. 

Strange how similar lives can be in some ways, across the planet and all. It's 5 and a half weeks since I had my last riba dose and I do feel more in control of my feelings, less angry and less confused. But I'm a long way from pre riba me and I too have neighbour dramas. They are a lovely intelligent American family with two sons. The older one is very academic and spends all day indoors - studying, whatever - wonderful. The younger one is more sporty and gregarious..... It's the second weekend of semester break here and to cater for his needs  they have erected a basket ball hoop in the front garden about 15 metres from my bedroom window. Every second day a convoy of cars drops at least six or seven preteens at the front door and their front yard turns into a basketball stadium. The irregular thumping of a hefty ball against concrete begins and soon after the piercing squeals, shrieks, banter and arguments which makes up so much of the sovial interaction  of young boys, begins too.  It starts around 10'and godd until after 5. Long day. I want to do is run out there and yell - isn't it about time you started masturbating and playing Grand Theft Auto all day?? Ya bunch of retards - f$&@ the Great Outdoors is a myth. Just go home,,shut your bedroom doors and do what normal kids do. Probably would be something the parents would take a long time to forgive. So I lie here with my left eye twitching and the blood rushing to my head until I feel my cranium will burst. 

I went to my GP last Friday because the pain in my joints and muscles is so debilitating. She prescribed some strong slow release pain killers which do knock the edge off the pain. im not sure whether it's the combination if this med with the dac/sof or left over riba symptom, but my itching is bad. I can't help scratching. I have hive things that seem to erupt in patches,,mainly on my back but also front of torso too. I have more energy than I did but not abounding with it. Little motivation. Don't want to see people. takes hours to get to sleep and then at least I seem to be in a coma for six hours. You could use the skin on my forearms to make crocodile wallets.

Contracted Hep C 1969. Genome Type 2, treatment naive. Began 12 week RIBA/sof/Dac on 12/11/15. Cirrhosis. VL before treatment 4m. Treatment extended another 12 weeks without Riba. No virus detected at 9 weeks.

Hi Dave,

Oh buddy, you're getting all the fun Riba has to offer! You're the poster boy of side effects from that stuff. I'm glad that you only have a short time to go. I think you'd be a candidate for a dose reduction if you had to go the 24 week route. How much are you currently taking? I know they are prescribing everything from 800-1200 mg with Sovaldi. 

If you have a bathtub, you can try an oatmeal bath. I took an anti histamine and used both Calamine and Caladryl lotion. Reducing the shower frequency, mildest soap possible and warm water, not hot, was the best I could do. I had to avoid the sun too, I would burn and just tingle "all over my body" (in my best Laugh In accent)! I had to request an anti nausea medication too. I was prescribed Zofran and it's worth it's weight in gold, costs as much too, so ask for the generic if it comes to that.

Hopefully you were able to get some sleep. I had trouble sleeping too, still do. I ended up with a Rx for Trazadone, which helps. Seems that regardless of what I did, once I woke up, I was up and either stalked the forum or found a spot on the ceiling to stare at. I'm sure you can relate, it looks like you have had a long night already. Take lots of naps, that helped get me through as well.

I'm not counting, but lets just say that you have completed over 90% of your journey. You should be seeing the station soon! The light at the end of your tunnel is shining bright!

I've been lucky with itching on Riba ... It's been minimal most of the stretch.

Started getting much worse a few days ago and now includes bumps, red patches, what looks like poison oak and a puffy itchy feeling on arms and legs. Don't scratch it, I know, cool water or cold packs do help but not for long. Mainly only is bothering me when I go to bed. Tonight I slept about an hour then woke with itching and pretty heavy nausea. Hands and feet have been tingling, numb and get cold easy now

Drinking some strong camomile tea with two of my ginger cubes (Homemade, frozen ginger extract).

Hoping to get back to sleep soon.

Can't believe how exhausting it is just to get up, make a cup of tea and sit at my desk ...

Been getting some relief with mental stuff ... a tinge of rage today but easily laughed off.

Depression tries to sneak in but I kick it in the a$$ and shew it away.

Well the ginger has a bite and the camomile's sweet taste is nice, heading back to bed to give sleep another try.

I'll sleep in tomorrow, no plans till Tuesday when I go in for labs for CBC and CMP. (But that's nearby).

... fortunately I've never had the displeasure of meeting the guy ... just seen the results of his moving in ... not a pretty site ... fortunately again, I can look over any of the neighbor's houses and see trees (I do like trees), mountains (like mountains) and not far away I can explore nice fairly peaceful places.  I pretty much ignore the the bad neighbors and look beyond ... unless they stink up the neighborhood or scream, fight or sit in their cars and rev their sadly un-tuned engines for hours, trying to make them run better.

I usually don't have to call the cops for disruptions at the meth house, I think other neighbors are much quicker on the phone than I and the meth heads seem to attract red and blue lights all by themselves ... and if I cook up some popcorn it's occasionally quite amusing to watch the folly.

Not to worry, I think Mark Twain said it best.

'Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.'

Almost there Dave.

its a hard three months. I honestly don't know how others seem to have got through Ribaviron relatively unscathed. Let's hope all the effort is worth it.

take it easy on yourself these last days. You want to chat and reminisce (Sp ?? ) about your toys with the guys - that's fine. You want extra chocolate cream pie - that's fine too.

You've certainly come up with some wonderful images to describe your state of mind.

I know what the guys are saying, and I do understand why they are saying it, but a countdown is not something you want to cease.

You EARNED the RIGHT to remove one more digit every day. Tomorrow you will be SINGLE DIGIT AND WE all have grown up hearing the ever famous 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 FREEDOM.

Further more I do not agree this is The Dragons last dance. I believe the thing is dead and now you are simply digging the hold to toss his stinking corpse in.

You have to dig that hole brother.

The victory wreath is in sight. You know how those guys look just before crossing the finish line in a grueling race? THAT is where you are.

Lift you head brother, take a deep breath and change NOTHING. Never change the pace when you are doing so well. How you are doing is not how you feel, it is the job at hand and brother you have this one whooped. You are exhausted yes but you are now in the ring, overlooking your opponent, and the Ref is counting the sucker out. You have earned the right to hear the ref count this thing out.

Approach it like that and the FIGHTER in you will rise to this occasion and be awarded an absolute KNOCK OUT!

Hey, there he is! I was out in that mess of a garage looking for my compressor. I couldn't even find the floor out there. It looks nothing like RC's immaculate space. I'm embarrassed to open my garage door some days, but had a community yard sale today and met several neighbors that told me mine looks great compared to many. Not sure if that makes me feel better or not. If you find humor there D, I'll accept the humiliation accordingly!

We have all had problems with Ribavirin. Some can avoid the worst of it, but that doesn't happen real often. The anemia related fatigue, dizziness and emotional roller coaster was terrible for me and it sounds like you're getting a good dose of it yourself. I (we) realize it's the drug doing it's thing and not the good natured friend we have in you. So don't worry about the feathers, they're just fine, but they do get caught up in the drone propellers, so quit it!

My suggestion is to give the countdown a pass. The last two weeks took long enough without counting down the hours and days! Concentrate on hydration, mental health and rest. The anemia will kick your butt. I lived in my recliner for months. The good thing is, you will notice improvements once you're done swallowing those little blue nuclear devices. The fatigue will get better quicker than the emotional element, at least it was that way for me. I had trouble with sun exposure for months, but up there in the wetlands of the Pacific Northwest, you should be safe! Wear a hat and sunglasses on the bright days. I burned my scalp bad a time or two. Just know that it's going to get better pretty soon. Do your best to recognize the drugs sfx and try to not let it get you down. It's the Dragon doing it's final dance. If you think you feel bad, imagine what it's going through! 

Hang in there my Brother, let me do the counting. Put life on auto pilot til EOT and just vegetate, listen to music and keep yourself fully fueled. If you're losing interest in hydration, try a Jalapeno Smoothie (with seeds) and you'll have no problem drinking plenty of water afterwards. You can thank me later, ha, ha! I'm here to help buddy...

Sorry folks (it's a latitude thing I tell ya), had a bit of a Riba meltdown ... hope I didn't ruffle any feathers ...

Ribavirin's takin' a toll on me physically and mentally right now ... but it won't be long now.

Time has warped a bit, EOT seems to get farther away, the closer I get, hard to explain but very real from within the marshmallow barrier which recently caught fire and singed my eyebrows.

I'd say "To infinity and beyond" ... but I'm just aiming for April 12 right now.
