It's great to hear you are making progress Syd. Based on my experience your ascites fluid will continue to be less of a problem as the HCV looses it's destructive grip on your liver. Don't use salt to improve the flavor of your food, it will just make the ascites worse. Getting off the couch, away from the TV, and getting some light exercise (preferably not in 40C HEAT) really helped me to deal with the 'Riba-crap' depression. Your on the home stretch now so keep doing what you've been doing, "jiggling along" in your train seat. When this is over you'll be Hec C free and grandma can get some new pantyhose. biggrin

Half way there Syd :) i am on the sam train as you (Sof+Dac+Riba) and belive me this is a smooth ride compared to interferon shots...yeah Riba can make you cranky and teary sometimes, but hey 2 weeks post tx you will regain your brain back :)

When is your next PCR? w8?

Hiya Syd,

What an encouraging post for fellow train riders, so glad to see the meds doing their job. Your attitude is courageous and inspiring, that really helps you as well as others on or about to get on the train to SVR. Not to worry, it feels as though we are in the same room, not far away at all, It's great to hear from you, thanks for keeping us informed on how it's going. I am tending to drift away from watching/ reading the daily news, media these days is all so much about sensationalism and only cover the shocking rather than so very many good things that are happening around the world.

Hey Syd,

Good to hear such positive news from you! You numbers are really looking so improved. The treatment is obviously working, so stick to it and before long you'll be dancing around your Island nation!!! 

Ribavirin is often known for the moments of rage that accompany it's administration, but the moodiness, crying and those darn puppy commercials on TV can just make the tears flow. It's all part of the process but you're aware of it and often that's enough to keep you grounded. Hang in there and talk to us anytime you feel those emotions starting to well up. We'll have to get Brownie to start posting some additional jokes! We have to get a smile on your beautiful face! One other thing, you're no farther away than the rest of us. This forum brings us all together in the same livingroom, whenever the urge arises! There's always someone to chat with 24 hours a day and if you need to, wake me up, I'm probably lurking around somewhere anyway!! Ha, ha!

So glad the ascites has lessened in quantity and severity! That's wonderful news. Keep a close eye on your fluids though. The dehydration will definitely add to your side effects. I'm pleased that your doctor is so attentive. Keep us updated, you're half way home!!!

hi fellow train riders, 

I have just finished week 6 of 12. So half way. Viral load at four weeks had dropped from 4 million to 115. alt 41 ast 58; before treatment alt 220 sat 409. So I am jiggling along on my train seat very happily. 

The diuretics for ascites have been halved again and doctor says that I was dehydrated and a lot of the unpleasant symptoms I had initially could have been from that. Also the anxiety of not knowing when, or even if, you will begin treatment is part of that general state of panic so many of us seem to be in Right before treatment.

I live in Australia where the drugs will be on the PBS on March 1st. I had already paid $1200 to Greg Jefferys, a wonderful Tasmanisn guy who has helped so many people here and has probably robbed Gilead of a lot of their bargaining power with the government. The dac I got here on  compassionate grounds which means I must go to a public hospital for my check ups. In the meantime I maintain contact with my initial specialist who is fantastic.

So get to the nitty gritty you are saying and tell us how you feel. Firstly still tired but not as completely devoid of any desire to get up and join the real world as I was. In fact in some ways I feel as though a veil has been lifted and I am seeing things as they used to be. I don't have riba rage, but cry easily about puppies and grandchildren on the one hand and insane horrible things on the news at the other end of the spectrum. Don't sleep well. Nausea has almost gone although many foods taste different and unappetising.what a small price to pay if this stuff can save my life.

your jokes, train songs, sadness at Bowies passing made the worl d seem very small. I am so far away from most of you, undergoing a summer of bushfires and 40 degree days, but your collective kindness and bravery have made me feel close.

Contracted Hep C 1969. Genome Type 2, treatment naive. Began 12 week RIBA/sof/Dac on 12/11/15. Cirrhosis. VL before treatment 4m. Treatment extended another 12 weeks without Riba. No virus detected at 9 weeks.
