Hi Lisa,

Remember that it seems I have cleared B but of course there was a trace in the DNA so they needed to ensure it did not flair up. I believe it is a non-issue but we are watching. When the C comes in, that should also be a non issue but there are many people that also need a B cure.

Hi, Canuck,

How are you? It's been too long. To try and answer, I don't believe they will do another Fibroscan for about a year but I am unsure and yes, there is the new clinic that should be open now by my NP who can do them so we shall see. There is no MRI or endoscopy ordered at this point. The deal is an Ultra sound every six months so May and Oct/Nov I will be seeing my specialist.  They will watch me that way. Regarding my BP, it is much improved and almost normal really. I am not concerned so I will say that it was the Harvoni that raised it since I started to have good readings during the weeks after I was finished. I still monitor it a few times a week and it seems fine. I am unsure about my lipids.

How did your EOT + 12 appointment go? You have probably had it by now since you posted approx 12 hours ago and you are three hours behind me, so that would have made it 1 AM Thursday ... or maybe your appointment is Friday.

Oh, I thought you still had both active, my bad. I am glad though that the focus is changing as we seem to be all set up fine for cures now. I wish you a lovely day. Sometimes I read at past 1 am in the morning half asleep. x

 Hi Loop!

Actually this is what Gilead claims to be moving towards now. They say they are moving from Hep C cure (been there done that sort of thing) to a cure for Hep B.

Per Canuck, overheard at the water cooler ... Heb B now becoming the main focus for Gilead

Thanks for the info....I too am wondering why they are not researching a cure. I suspect that will be next now Hep C is being controlled. It is unusual to meet a chronic Hep B, so I had to ask. Getting rid of Hep C is a blessing though, It is a fast moving in research, they are doing amazing stuff!

I am happy for you both though to get through this battle, dual infections are much more essential to treat. x

Hey SF!!

ALT, AST, Alk. Phos beauties!! Can't wait to see your VL ZERO results (again) when your labs are ready! I've never been able to do math, but late in life, i find I have suddenly developed a distinct interest in numbers, especial zero.

I've not been able to post much lately, been absolutely swamped.

I am sitting in my motel room tonight, waiting for my EOT+12 weeks appointment tomorrow. Also saw a ENT guy today, uneventful, a technical ho-hum lookie-loo.

On our trek back home tomorrow night, I'll see if I can't find a DQ, and I 'll have one on you, to celebrate your lab lovelies! I'll be sure to ask them for one of those healthy slurries tho (OK Linux).

Forgot what you said ... about when they might do another fibroscan/MRI/US on you! That nice gal you know, said she would, (I recall), when she is set up with a fibroscan, but when will that be? And do you get any other imaging of liver done to keep tabs on changes/improvement to the good? How are your lipids?? BP is OK now?

When I am able, I will try to keep posting things I have stumbled across, re: B/C people and research (I for one find the relationships between B/C interesting)! Ya, you and me both, remember fondly how it felt contracting both B and C at the same time in the good ole days! - NOT!

Really nice to see all your recent labs look so good now. You feel ... "optimistic"??!!! - surely you mean ... i am feeling smug, proud, relieved, gloating, exhausted, happy and invigorated all at the same time ... like a brave warrior who as just won his best battle??    biggrin C.

That is my understanding as well Gracie but having said that and the fact it is more easily contracted than Hep C, these are the current statistics.

2 Billion people have been infected with it worldwide.

It is estimated that there are more than 250 million carriers of the hepatitis B virus in the world, with over 500,000 dying annually from hepatitis B-related liver disease.

They need to find a cure

somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but hep b is cleared in most cases, only 10% become chronic ....

  • In 90% of persons who become infected as adults with hepatitis B, the immune system successfully fights off the infection during the acute phase -- the virus is cleared from the body within 6 months, the liver heals completely, and the person becomes immune to hepatitis B infection for the rest of their life. In the other 10%, the immune system cannot clear the virus and hepatitis B infection persists past 6 months, usually for the rest of the person's life. This persistent state is known as chronic hepatitis B infection.

Thank you everyone and I am feeling optimistic

Those blizzards are looking mighty fine Tig and yes Wendy, the sprig was a nice thought but never going to happen.

Lisa, Hep B is not curable but is preventable by inoculation. It is indeed a chronic virus. In my case, I had B and C and the big problem was would the B rush back in once the C was cleared or being cleared since it was more aggressive and seems to hold B at bay. Based on that, my B VL was done all through treatment to ensure it was being nice. It did seem that I had cleared it but if it reared it's ugly head it would have had to be taken care of with antivirals such as Viread. There are newer and better ones soon to be approved.  This is a site about the drug in the even you or anybody else would like to view it. I am not the only one who had both. Our friend Canuck was also lucky enough to have both B and C. I was very sick when I first contracted them and in bed for 7 weeks. Not fun times.

http://www.viread.com/

My C VL was never done during TX. It was done before, at EOT and yesterday EOT+12.

I will of course post my final results when I get them in a few weeks. More waiting but hey, that's what we do.

SF

Great news Shadowfax. Since you are in the normal ranges it is looking very good! I know I am too curious at time, sorry if it seems rude, but is Hep B curable? I read yes and no. I know someone who caught it and their immune system dealt with it. I've never met anyone with chronic Hep B.

Good results SF! The ALT dropped again at week +5, that's a good sign of further reduction in inflammation. I hope you have your party planning underway!

While you're waiting for the festivities to begin, I'm sending you something to quiet the sweet tooth. I'll take the caramel one if you can't finish them all smile

ALP then still well within range ...

You've been right there for all of us on this journey Shadowfax, (After all, you saw me through the whole screenplay of "Linuxter Unhinged"), we're all glad to hear that you're not going anywhere. smile

Thank you Dave,

I feel confident but of course need to know those numbers.

Yes the ALP is in range. It is a bit different in the USA, your units are not the same but for us it's 30 - 110 U/L

It has been an interesting journey as you know and it was an extreme pleasure to be on it with friends like you and Jimmy and Canuck to mention just a few.

I really don't know what I would have done without this forum to help with my questions and concerns. I applaud you for taking on a moderator role (Something I foresaw when we first got here) I am not going anywhere. There are people who need to hear from people like us.

Cheers

SF

Hi SF,

Had to look up the ALP but from what I can tell The normal range is 44 to 147 IU/L ...

So you're well within range and looking extremely good with ALT and AST.

I'd say this is all VERY good news SF!

Sorry you have to wait for the RNA test, you'll know the good news soon though.

The Oreo Ice Cream Blizzard is well deserved ... Do Enjoy!

Glad to see these numbers SF, thanks for keeping us posted!!

Dave

Well yesterday I had my lab work done and got some partial results that make me feel positive. It will take at least 2 weeks to know my C and B Status but my general numbers are good. I have referenced my last two draws as well.

EOT       5/2/16     ALT 35/ AST/25 ALP 68

EOT +5  6/7/16     ALT 28/AST/21  ALP 80

July 26th blood draw verdict.

EOT +12 7/26/16
ALP 83
ALT 25
AST 22

Platlets 129 * Cirrhosis

Based on these numbers I feel confident that nothing is messing with my liver right now but I need to see the real McCoy.  Fingers, eyes, toes and everything else possible are crossed right now. I do not see my specialist until August 30th but I will do my best to get my results via telephone after 10 days. I as the rest of you have waited long enough.

** Time for an Oreo Ice Cream Blizzard (with a sprig of Kale for Dave) to make it green smile
