Poosnizzle?, hagatha? I had to double-check what country you were from again ... hey Canada isn't that far from USA, is it? hee hee! Then agan, (really) you are not on home territory, it is that horrible (never again) riba-land vacation from hell you have gone to. Explains the language I guess. OMG BB, you do make me laugh (all at your expense tho) - how can you do it, keep any humour when this is NOT funny, at all!  You poor dear. Gee, so many parallels we share dear. Jimmy once spoke of an altercation he faced in the mirror one day, post-riba, I too (riba-less) had and have "encounters of the too-close kind" in my bathroom mirror. Make-up, I really should just plain give up on ANY make-up, no one notices anything anyway, well not in the right way a person might hope for! Insult to injury isn't it, these hair, face, eye things! BUT, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Hang on, just a couple more weeks, YOUR ALMOST THERE!!!! I remember one trip out of town and down to the big city for a doc appointment, all packed for our overnighter, I was so upset that night at the motel that  I had forgotten my face powder (I was trying to put it on religously right over my sick, sallow, abcessed face, not making one iota of dif. in my appearance, perhaps if I had used to gently tenderly blot and smooth my brain it would have been more effective. Point is, you WILL look and feel better, later, wait for it, it will come - job one at the moment is only to finish this up as painlessly as possible.

You count like Syd (now .. she WAS from a far-away lands) also in never-never riba-land - the Austrailian new math was to toss some down the floor register, loose count and then not care what you ended up taking after 24 weeks - she figured it was close enough. (I'm exaggerating - slightly!).

Gee I hope your stomache has already settled, we just cannot have you being this sick. It's just all too much. Do as much TLC or get someone to do some TLC for you. Sleep if you can, slowly feed and drink yourself better, rest (even if your eyes refuse to close for real sleep).

Sorry about your eye thing. Make a slurry of quite runny cooked porridge, pour it into the bottom of a clean wet rinsed cotton pillowcase, fold it up to be in a little oblong bag shape and chill it, lay down and use it as a light compress over your eyes. DONT' get any of the gruel IN your eyes of course! The oatmeal poutice and it's moist cool should help soothe your eyelids a bit. Pat your eyes area off gently a tiny bit with a damp cloth of clean water when you are through. I have found cold porridge poultices quite soothing for all kinds of skin upsets, and you cannot go far wrong with them.

No extremes, gentle as you go, pick things that go "middle of the road" ...

When "Poosnizzle" becomes part of the equation, you know you screwed up! Those muscles aren't getting enough oxygen already, because your favorite little blue pills are robbing you of the necessary hemoglobin to supply it. You might as well be holding your breath while you're moving boxes because your lungs are about the only thing getting any air. Bad Brenda, time out for you girl....

I hope you didn't follow all of that up with a hot shower???? Another no-no while you're on Ribavirin. Treatment is the time to relax, rent movies and let the neighbor kid mow your lawn (you get my drift)! Take it easy, hydrate with some good electrolytes, a short cool shower to invigorate you and then park it, turn on the show and call us in the morning! Hagatha will hopefully be looking and feeling more like herself then... wink

Well, I over did it this last weekend....My Bad! As You all warned me! O M G! I was just moving some boxes up and down the stairs from the upstairs bedroom into the garage. I suppose I didn't drink enough water (as I feel like that's all I do anyway all the time 24/7) But I guess I needed to drink more than I usually would from working up a lil sweat that day......Holy poosnizzle Bat man!! I didn't even think I was working that hard really, but the next morning I had a splitting headache from hades and started throwing up.toilet.gif   The more I threw up, the more my head split. tears.gif It was horrible...My muscles in my body were sooooo sore too, what was I thinking!!??!! I thought if I wasn't in the direct sun then I should be alright......WRONG! no.gif I had to stay in bed the whole entire day after that. Having insomnia the last couple of nights didn't help either but I can usually deal with that. I had already had some eye issues going on too(swollen up, painful eye lids), (so no makeup until its resolved) and I'm not sure why but if its not one thing its another. Geez...You can be going right along and then BOOOM Chakalawka!!!........I'll look in the mirror and think WHO IS THAT hair thinning, ashy pale face, old feeling, weak a$$ hagatha doing in my bathroom! Crap Il be so happy when this is all over. I need my strength back and my hair! Just 3 more weeks!!!

Getting old is hard enough already dangit!  You KNOW?? hmm

I'm going to have to buy Brenda and RC one of those little baby backhoes. This nonsense of no garden work or playing in the dirt simply must be rectified! I'm sure the utility company will come looking for me after they tear up a few buried lines, but hey, I think they'll get the hang of it. Just so long as one of them isn't a gas line....

Wackadoo that!! biggrin

BB,

ooooh/aaaah - just look at dat lovely squished ALT! Frame all dos numbers. Beauties all round! Got to be happy to be in a crash like that, even when you toyed with the idea, from time to time, that you wouldn't survive it! Now, as far as hitting the dirt tho, just keep dusting yourself off, wash your sticky hands, much liberal water. You are UND,UND now, par for the course, and there is no looking back! I'm going to start a rumour, BB's gettin' a BB. heehee biggrin C.

Besides the undetected viral load, which is the most glorious result on the paper, Canuck is right, the Hgb and platelets are impressive considering you're on Ribavirin. That stuff affects so many things and the Hgb/platelet levels are usually first to tank and yours have stayed very respectable. When they drop, even a little bit, you're likely to feel pronounced fatigue and are easily winded. So if you've felt a bit puny, there you go! They will both return to normal, but can take awhile, especially with Riba. It will take 6 months to totally clear your system, but you should notice improvements in your strength, emotions and bloodwork in a month, give or take.

All of this seems overwhelming at times, but that first undetected test result makes it all worthwhile. Just wait, when you get that same report 12 weeks after treatment, you'll need lead shoes to keep you from floating away! I can't wait, you'll have two new lives to celebrate, yours and that grand baby! Great days ahead...

@ Canuck....You said...(I have a theory too, you probably just sucked out all the iron out of that patch of ground by osmosis (given your Hgb).)

I have to say (call me crazy) at the time I was planting those flowers we did notice how funny the soil was sticking all over my hands in such a way my friend and I actually laughed about it ...looked like a lil kid playin in the dirt as it didn't brush off like it usually does and just wanted to cling to my skin..I'm not even joking!! flowerpot.gif I swear I'm not a wackadoo!! lol Well.....maybe a lil rofl.gif

Now there's a picture! Riba-tized, sweaty woman rolling around in the dirt.

My trial people were relentless in their ominous warnings about using 2 methods of birth control (same instruction as you received, also on the drug inserts) and I wasn't even on riba (sof/vel/vox) Vosevi. Many of these anti-virals have these cover-their-arse warnings, and prolly for good reason no doubt! Kint be to careful, but really!! they also knew (ad nauseum, from their repeated interrogations, oh, I mean interviews) my age, the exact year I became post-menopausal, the decade I started taking HRT (and still take) for same, and, I thought it would finally reassure them when explained ... I used the worlds very best contra-conception method ever known to man anyway - you know, abstinence? Nope, every single dang visit (I had a lot of appointments), Ms. thorough assistant would smile sweetly and say  ... "now you do recall our little talk about using two forms of birth-control? ...  I learned to give up explaining that immaculate conception was not possible with me, just decided to smile back at her and nod.

I think an UND makes the rest of everything through treatment just a little more bearable.

How does 0 feel?? That part feels good doesn't it?

Have you no before and after ALT's/AST's?

How lovely, a brand new grand-babe coming to you soon - a nice birthday (and "anniversary date" of a dif sort too, if the timing is spot on)! biggrin C.

As long as she doesn't handle the medication everything is fine. My daughter was pregnant during my treatment and we had the discussion about staying clear during her visits. Make sure your daughter avoids contact with the drugs. But I think the gardening is a loss!

One other thing... be careful and make sure you use two forms of birth control. Your daughter could end up with a sibling the same age as your grandchild! That would be different wouldn't it?

I edited my last post because I should've been more clear about that warning. I don't want you worrying about your daughter because of my poor choice of words. Sorry for causing you that.

Oh WOWzers! My daughter is pregnant and she lives with me.....she is due to have her baby the exact same date when I am finished with these meds.  Holy Crapola!!! So I am on them the last 12 weeks of her pregnancy.... Dr.s never said anything to us about that!. Well that's a scarry thought. BUT! I can say that she lives downstairs and I upstairs as we use separate bathrooms and seldom even see each other as we both work all the time. Make separate meals......geez.. you would have thought the dr.s or nurses would have informed us.

Well,Lord Have Your Hand on her and our baby in Jesus Name!pray.gif

BB, they don't want a person taking Ribavirin to allow a pregnant woman close to it because it's toxic. Whether that can apply to gardening, I have no clue, but...  The stuff is bad news for reproduction and if you were sweating and it was leaking outa you, well I'm just one of those conspiracy theorists at heart! My daughter works in a pharmacy and they can't touch the bottles or dispense it if they are pregnant or planning to.

CONGRATULATIONS WARRIOR!! You will never see another test that says anything but undetected from now on. That's how confident I am in these new treatments. Good for you! Keep swinging Sister, the Dragon is going down.....

Oh BB, Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats on your great big UND! So glad you share.

Get out of the dirt (and the heat BTW). Yup, riba kills everything.

Hm, just 3 weeks, just 3 weeks, alllllmost there!

OK, where are the before and after ALT's/AST's?

Keep trying to spoil yourslef in anyway you possibly can, you are almost there at the finish line now. Good food, lots of water, tender loving self-care, tend to your own garden - YOU. I have a theory too, you probably just sucked out all the iron out of that patch of ground by osmosis (given your Hgb).

Just so you don't go paranoid crazy, get some more flowers, and plant them on your friends side, to prove to yourself it has nothing to do with you, you will probably find out she forgot all about the round-up she had over there, nearer your side, a few years back.

If they still die, you should go around and touch all her weeds.

Sorry, I tease you, hoping you still have a good humour today - you should with lovely UND news like that. What a wonderful job you have done under sh*tty conditions. biggrin C.

labs came in today, Nurse says Viral load is NOT detected and Hemoglobin is at 11.7... 3 weeks to go.

Just thought I'd share!

OK, I have story and I'd like your  thoughts on the matter. SO....I planted some flowers in my friends garden area for her and a week later they all died. Which is weird for me as I have a green thumb and usually do rather well with plants. So we planted some more in the same exact same spot....she planted the one side and I the other (we split it up this time but in the same area as I did before) a week later hers were fine and the ones I planted died again. I had no gloves on and I touched the roots of these baby flower seedlings...... OK I have to say my very first thought that came to mind was oh my gosh could it be the medication I'm on coming out of my pores as I sweated out in the heat as we all know this stuff can kill a virus why not these delicate roots of these flowers???? lol.....Am I crazy for thinking that?????? AS everyone I have mentioned it too acts like its completely ridicules! So weird huh?? Well heck its made me lose some hair .... weirdface.gifCall me crazy just don't call me late for dinner! haha

Hi Lindsmatt,

Hope you don't mind, I wrote about your PPI/epclusa/water questions over in your other thread, rather than me taking up space on BB's thread. smile C.

as far as the water, I would infuse water as opposed to the Bai. Sure 1 or 2 a day won't hurt. Cheaper and healthier just to stick some fruit, a cuke, whatever in a nice pitcher and pour it in an insulated cup or bottle.........

Greetings.

Proton pump inhibitors

(e.g., omeprazole)
Co-administration of omeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors is not recommended. If it is considered medically necessary to co-administer, EPCLUSA should
be administered with food and taken 4 hours before
omeprazole 20 mg.

For me this hits very close to home. I was on Harvoni and HAD to take Omeprozol. Following the guidelines perfectly and I was cured.
The guidelines posted above are official.
http://www.gilead.com/~/media/Files/pdfs/medicines/liver-disease/epclusa/epclusa_pi.pdf

Fact is if I had to go 12 or 24 weeks without a PPI I would not have lasted 18 hours.
Arm yourself with facts. Follow protocol perfectly and you will do fine.

Now that I've finally been approved for Epclusa, I have a couple of questions.  Thie first is concerning water consumption.  I am not currently a water drinker so will need to really make myself drink water.  My understanding is you need to drink at least half your body weight in ounces.  Is that about right?  Also, I really prefer something with flavor and will probably add lemon but also wondered if I can drink vitamin water as a substitute?  I've been drinking Bai water lately, which I really enjoy and think I would probably have more luck if I could throw a few of those in daily.  Any problem with that?

My second question is about my GERD.  I currently take Dexilant, a PPI, for gastritis and a Hiatal hernia (this getting old crap is for the birds!!).  My understanding is that I will have to discontinue that so wondered if anyone out there has any advice or suggestions for me?  I recently started taking a tablespoon of the Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar with 6 ozs of water in the morning (YUCK!) and I think it helps with the reflux.  I understand that you shouldn't take Tums or any antacid which is my normal go-to when I get a sudden spasm of reflux.  When it comes on for me, it's usually quite sudden and painful.  I imagine others have run into this issue and just wondered what they suggest.

Thanks so much!

It is my understanding once we are cured, we can donate organs but not blood. I wish the blood thing would change as I am AB- and would love to be able to donate.

Greetings LL, I really hope you have been and remain great. wink

I agree with you that common sense would say someone dying of ALD should be given the option of being inserted with my liver once I no longer have a need for it.

The problematic term however is "common sense".

I don't believe I have a toenail the government would agree to allowing me to donate.

I kind of feel sometimes like they are looking forward to burning me to a fine gray dust. Then cleaning up the dust with dust buster. ( No Dirt Devils sorry and no exceptions.)

Then they would take that other than Red dust buster, and do one of those time capsule thingamabobs. It would be marked; "DO NOT OPEN BEFORE OCTOBER OF 2187 AND THEN ONLY IN FRONT OF A PAIR OF STILL ALIVE PEOPLE FROM THE YEAR 2017 THAT BOTH CAME UP IN FONTANA CALIFORNIA."

Needless to say, under the specific terms mentioned above, there will be no one left from today to that 2187 date so.... the capsule stays in the ground until someone in Authority commands it forward.

Wait! This is not JimmyDoodles?

They are beginning to explore the use of HCV+ organs for transplant. I haven't read much about the use of donors that were cured of HCV prior to their organ becoming available. With the success rates of these new drugs, there should be some changing attitudes on what's permissible and what isn't.

From this article I found, you'll see the differing attitudes on the subject. I can't imagine being turned down for donating or receiving a HCV+ or HCV cured organ. Hopefully we'll start seeing more common sense application of these guidelines established years ago when HCV was nearly incurable. Sadly, the incidence of HCV infection is again on the rise and it seems to be found in the younger generation, primarily IV drug users. As this article states, there are more livers becoming available that aren't being used, because the donors are HCV+. That needs to change.

Today a friend of my family passed away at 52. All sorts of horrible things happened, earlier this week his veins bleed out for the second time, he had liver cancer, you name it, it happened. The silly thing is, it was caused by years of drinking, nothing Hep C related. We saw him in the hospital yesterday....

The thing is, he was never going to get a liver, there just aren't enough about, and then there are people who need liver transplants that did nothing but have bad luck, they do come first....

I do believe those cured of Hep C can donate their livers to those that have the same type that need transplants to survive. It would be logical at least if that is not the general option. I live in an opt out country apposed to an opt in.

I had botox once around my eyes, I looked like I had an open curtain on one of my eyelids when I smiled. It wasn't the sexy look I was hoping for! ;)

Good question - recently, I've read the answer is a tentative YES. The thinking is changing on that situ about what livers are desirable (i.e. none versus one with a hx of HCV or having HCV). It used to be a NO. There are articles out on this subject now - I'll have to google some up. C.

This might be a dumb question but here it goes.....

Once cured from hep c and depending on the condition your liver is in post treatment, Is it possible to be a doner then?

Awww Brenda,

I can relate, that brain fog is horrible to deal with...but as Tig said...those blue pills are fighting that nasty HCV, your body is the battleground.

I had many bouts of really confused thinking throughout my 33 year battle with the dragon.  I remember once holding a plate of cookies towards the table and saying "does anyone want a fish"..... Of course my kids thought it was very funny but it was really frustrating having the wrong word come out unintended.

I also know how difficult it can be to take those RIBA pills knowing they are going to make you feel.....tired, or angry, or fuzzy....but....they really do work and by taking them everyday for a couple of months, you are making the rest of your life longer and a whole lot healthier.

Stay strong dragon warrior.

Alison

Hi Brenda,

Don't let those blue pills get you down, ask any guy about those little blue pills, they're made to pick you up!! Woohoo!! I know, I know.... no  Just trying to make you laugh, they make my wife laugh! I'm not helping myself here, lol!

Look upon the Riba as little blue Dragon slayers. They make that virus feel exponentially worse than they make you feel. They are giving years to your life, not life to your years, remember that as you're laying those pills out each day. I realized, even as much as I hated them, they were a significant ally in my battle against this even nastier disease.

I just lost my Mom to Alzheimers, so I know the concern and the comparison you mentioned. Brain fog is a real problem for us, but you'll witness big improvements in your cognitive ability once this is over. Don't allow the drugs to convince you of anything other than they work and work well!

If you're not using a daily pill container, get one. Then when you sit down with your BIG glass of water, have that container in front of you and you'll never be unsure if you took them. Don't get out of that chair til they are down the hatch!

Give the Botox a pass while you're on treatment. I can tell that you're plenty beautiful already and those fine lines can wait!

Aw, poor BB. I am sorry. This IS testing you. You ARE made of tough stuff tho, we can tell! And you ARE getting cured and will never have to go through this ever again!!!!!!!!!!!!

We can all pick things off your list to relate to, so you KNOW you have our sympathy and support. I keep going ya, me too, me too ... the hair thing I found a real insult to injury, no wonder we have frown lines. Let me know how the botox goes, i may be next. blankstare

You've been super-riberized. So unfair, that particular drug is in treatment (I feel). Trouble is, it works, damn-it-all! You said ... "can u imagine me if i had some real hard problems?" ...

You DO have some real hard problems!!!, VERY hard!!!, (and they are blue!, called riba) - the root of many of the crappy issues you battle.

Sleep, bowels, or leg and mind discomfort, I don't know which is the worse. All of what you have (and having it all at the same time) I guess IS the worst.

Feeling you are loosing your mind, or finding it "mal-functioning", is well ... unnerving (to say the least)! IT'S THE DRUGS! - what you are feeling WILL leave you - but I know, there is no consolation until it has gone - it WILL go tho.

I lost pills that were sitting right smack-dab in front of me too! I too had to count all my pills (on more than one occasion) to try to figure out whether I had, or had not taken them! It IS disturbing. One particularly bad day (a long spell actually), I was sitting in the lab waiting my turn, crammed in there shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the hoard of sick mass-packed sardines, I was having very profound fog. I dully noticed, vacantly, one by one, people were being called for their turn, being asked a few key identifying question ie, age, birthdate etc. I suddenly panicked, i could not be sure how old i was!! Was I 60 or was I 61?! (lets see, last year I must have been ... no, or was that this year? OMG! (the inner conversation that ensured scrabbling for an answer, went NO WHERE!!!!) I then tried to do the mental math, subtract birthyear from current yer, i couldn't do it! I couldn't believe it, the harder I tried the worse my head got stuck, I'm really panicking now, pressure, sure they would call me up any second. Near tears with barely enough room in the crowd while reaching down to open my bag for a pen and paper to try to write the dates to figure it out - yup, they called my name! I had to guess, and thankfully i got it right. After that day I gave in to it, accepted it, and it did pass. I didn't even have a good riba reason for being that way! Mind you I have to 'fess, I was never good at metal math EVER anyway.

You have not lost your bravery, resolve or sense of humour, and you will not loose your mind either. Be your very best friend ever, do anything you can think of to get yourself through this, it will pass, this crapola. You are all the nearer the finish line now, 3/4's the way home! Soon to have no more pills, no more riba and soon to be able to say proudly (I went und at week 4) and I am an "X-1a". biggrin C.

If you have a Medscape account, this article on Botox use for pain management is informative. My neurologist wanted to use it for my cervical pain and headaches, but alas, my insurance carrier said no way... It has some interesting action on nerve related pain. Something to do with it's ability to block neuromuscular function.

Hey hiya BB,

How goes the war, and the riba skirmishing?

Hope you are not botoxing any frown lines from between your 2 eyebrows, my sis did that, and I could never tell when she was mad (or surprized)! heehee

Besides they are not "frown" lines, rather heavy duty thinking, effort and "I am concentrating" lines (I prefer to think)! My sister looked like this (temporarily) blankstare .

My Granny lost her eyebrows early in life and had a lifetime of expertise in drawing them on every morning, she said she had to, otherwise how would anyone know what she was feeling!

Just curious, what part of your anatomy you think needs botox? Could be an interesting diversion from the arduous tasks at hand.

So, last I heard ... some days were diamonds, and some days were glass! How are the "poo" days going? You must be near 8 weeks? Have you/will you be having more bloods done? When is your next VL, week 12, end of treatment? Have you had another hgb done since your 4 week one?

Have you had any skin issues? You don't really mention any, rather more, the rocky bucking bronco ride riba has taken you on.

I hope you are doing/feeling not too bad, considering all.

Go girl, be strong, you're doing it! biggrin C.

Many insurance companies have deals established with the manufacturers and receive reduced prices as long as they encourage patients and doctors to use that medication. It happens all the time. Some of those reductions are substantial.

Thank you for the clarification Tig, but if the Viekira Pak plus Ribi is more costly than the Epclusa, then I'm baffled (and concerned) as to why my insurance company would recommend it? As I mentioned before, I am treatment naive and have minimal fibrosis.  Isn't the Ribavirin used when the liver is more damaged?   There are just so many unanswered questions that I have and unfortunately, my NP in my Gastroenterologist's office isn't terribly helpful.  I am going for a second opinion with a Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist on August 31, so maybe he will have more answers for me.  As always, thank you for taking the time to address my concerns.
