I really try to avoid laxatives, but when I get to the 3rd day, I gots to go, one way or another. I try to keep it to the lowest level of intervention, like prune juice first, then colace, then senna, or a combo of colace and senna. Next tier, butt rockets, that don't go through the stomach of course, then Milk of Magnesia (blugh!) but that is a no-no with Epclusa, or the evil lactulose.
At any rate, I vary the remedies, so I don't get in a rut with any one product.

But I also try to keep my diet sorted out with lots of fruit and veggies, water, unfortunately even a really controlled diet hasn't kept me on track. The pattern is improving, though, I can often go 2-3 weeks without a slow down, but the clamps go on without any apparent reason, and well...

hm, oh dear. Well, I know many of us have travelled over this subject many times, what to try for constipation tendancies, and we HAVE often tried it all before, but, (for what it's worth) prolly not much in the offerring, but merely one of the only other things I can recall that I have left out of some of these conversations, shredded wheat! We covered brans (yuck)/fibres/cereals/fruit/veg of all various sorts - but oddly, just a big bowl of ordinary shredded wheat, every day, I found helps me with my "maintenance" (that and water are my two mainstays, water being #1), additionally, small doses of metamucil (over 2 or 3 days) when I have got myself into more of a bind! Once I have screwed up and got myself starting to be bunged up, it can take me a few days for things to resolve, so therefore, my preventative maintenance is very (more) important for me, and that IS where I can fall down. Maintenance is tiresome, but better than the consequences for me otherwise. My friend relies on see-sawing back and forth between constipation and then taking strong ("more effective" medicine she calls it) laxatives, but she does not realize (or maybe accept the premise) that the strong laxatives (she takes) actually trains and re-trains her bowels to NOT to work on their own, she is actually quite dependant on her laxatives now, and will not or cannot (it seems) get any normal peristalisis without relying on them! Laxatives, for me are and would be my last resort, at least the stronger ones. I can't recall for a long time now the last time I HAD to take anything stonger than metamucil. (In a way) I envy her, she just pops a pill, and eats whatever she wants, she never seems willing to think about what she is eating/drinking! If I ignore my daily water or fibre, I end up with work to do (or is that, to un-doo?). C.

On the other hand....all that good motility just stopped yesterday. So who knows? Even with gallons of water, veggies, fruit, fiber....of course things will swing back the other way soon enough.
Maybe it's all these nazis in the news making me constipated?

Well, That's a crappy experience Lamont. cry So glad there was a washroom nearby for you.

Please take life easy while you're on treatment. As you said, you know it's working and it's going to be so worth it. smile

Glad to hear the system is working and you were near a washroom lol

For what its worth I have had recent digestive problems and really severe constipation.
Nothing worked.
I tried a lot of different methods until last week for the first time, RestorLAX.

Worked like a champ.
Hopefully you wont be hit again and/or need it.

So last week I was in here musing over how I was disappointed that I was still fairly constipated despite the "promise" of a liberating side effect. As my second week of Epclusa got underway, I was almost back to my old self. One glass of water, 2 cups of java and baboom.

Well, today, I felt so happy that I had another "normal" day, so we headed off to my favorite Church of Consumerism, the CostCo warehouse, who has a nice clean restroom, which was very gratefully there for me by the time I developed really deep cramps in my lower abdomen....and eventually to a stall where I found myself soaked in sweat and nearly fainting after a vicious turn of diarrhea.

Ok, I take it back already. I spent the day hydrating again, and mostly slept the day away once we got home. Aside from that, just a mild headache and a lot of fatigue, and weirdly some insomnia most nights.

I know it all means it's working, though, so no biggie. I know it will all be for the good once it's over. But a reminder to be careful of what to wish for, whew.

Ok, just 1:36 to my next dose...
