I always think our fur babies know they have a shorter time on earth with us so they love us extra intensely while they are here.

Alison, Our Bertie was doing OK on meds, then she suddenly developed congestive heart failure. I am still very sad about it. She had stuck with me through some very tough times, like a faithful dog in a cat suit.

CMV?
Im not familiar with those initials... but I think the herpes infection was brought on by a combination of things, the Epclusa might have disturbed things, and my 94 year old dad was piling on the stress, then my little furry Manx cat got sick...all while my wife was dragging me off on a bunch of trips abroad, when I would've preferred to have hunkered down.

I had a bad result from prednisone, it actually reactivated the infection. Yikes. So acyclivir and Zirgan an AV eyedrop/goop. But it took a LONG time to finally deactivate. Nasty, going right for my cornea and retina.

The good news, however:
My Drivers License looked to be in jeopardy, as they have changed the vision requirements and I wasn't sure I would pass.

So I flunked...but was given the option to test with this vision testing box thing. I could see all the letters...even after not being able to even see the regular chart...I'll be dammed.

They even removed my eyeglasses restriction which I have had for 20 years...

Of all things!

Going to go motorcycle shopping now.:)

Edit: I looked up CMV, no, I did not have that. It was diagnosed at first as possible shingles, or herpes 1, and after a couple of swab tests, was confirmed as Herpes 1.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cytomegalovirus_retinitis

My guess is that treatment with any powerful AV drug, like Epclusa, Harvoni can "set off" a viral reactivation of certain types. Just a guess, though.

Hey RC,

Our buddy Lamont, was the unfortunate target of an ocular Herpes infection. A persistent and scarring nastiness that he has finally whipped.

Any new Ragdolls in you and Chris' future? I remember how sad that was for you. They are such a big part of our family and so difficult when we lose them at any time.

Hi Lamont. Was CMV the culprit for your eye trouble? I ask because I have been fighting CMV off and on since my L/T and they say it can attack your retina? So far I have been able to stop the virus, once with Valcyte, and the second time by stopping prednisone.Sorry to hear about your cat, I know how hard it is for you right now.I lost my guy (KONA) to kidney disease 11 days after my transplant. He went through 2 failed treatments and many other medical situations with me, he was my buddy!!  13 Y old Ragdoll. I miss him soooo much. Be careful on the bike, your riding with precious cargo on board. Stay healthy!!  RC

Hi Lamont,

Good to hear from you! I’m glad the eye has finally decided to rid itself of that miserable pest. Nothing like taking it’s sweet time...

I’m sorry to hear about your cat. I had a little Manx when I was younger. She was a sweetheart. People would see her as hopped across the room and swear it was a rabbit. Did yours hop? That little stubby tail was cute, too!

Have fun bike shopping. Man, I wish I could get on one and away from life’s daily headaches. My buddy calls his HD, the Therapist, or time to speak with his Shrink! Pick a beauty and send us a pic!

Well, lookie what the wind blew in!

So GLAD to hear you passed the driving eye test thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was frettin for ya.

Sh*t, over (on the 20/70 though). But, at least, the virus has decided to stop. What a long horrid haul that was, the whole of the eye thing!

So, so sorry about your little kitty. My eyes are welling up right now thinking about it and my little one out in her resting place in the back yard, along with our dog. Man how they break our hearts. Nothing helps the pain when we loose them, except maybe time.

So glad to hear from you though. I thought you were gone all "Casper" on us, I was waiting to hear how the drivers test went - one good thing! wink C.

Still alive!

That crappy herpes in the eye thing Finally gave up trying to turn me in to Blind Lemon Lamont.

Left me with 20/70 -ish in that eye though. Sum****.

However, I did manage to pass my vision test at the DMV. (whew) So now I am motorcycle shopping again, in earnest.

Worst thing, ever, though, my little Manx cat died of complications from feline hyperthyroidism. Just sad as anything. She'd seen me through so much of my own suffering. It's not fair.

But life goes on.

And yes, still alive, and my liver feeling mo betta than ever.

My case manager NP, a man of few words, had the ones I wanted to hear about Monday's Lab results. ------ Greetings- On October 16, 2017 there was no Hepatitis C virus detected. We will check again for the virus on November 20, 2017 and finally again on January 22, 2018. ------- I'm SO grateful for these new drugs, and that I'm the beneficiary of a great Union retirement benefits plan. It validates what I fought for for so many years when I was a chapter officer. (Old union guys never pass up an opportunity to do a little organizing) LC

Pictured, the Final Dose.

All things considered, it was a piece of cake. I took my pill at 9:00 PM every day for the 12 weeks, at 4 weeks I had a "Virus Not Detected" lab result, my ALT , AST results were in the 16-17 at 4 weeks and at 8 weeks. The results for today's labs will hopefully be as good.

Most wonderfully, I am convinced my liver is actually making a good recovery already. The evidence is that the ongoing battle with constipation, stomach upset, awful gas are all nearly gone, my stamina is generally better, too. No more bloodshot, dull eyeballs, the vague ache in my upper right quadrant has eased off. I may actually feel better, too! Wouldn't that be nice?

I'll be hanging around here though, glad to have made a few friends and lord knows, it always helps to have people around who have Been There, and Done that.
