oh iris, you've been thru so much

i'm so glad you are on top of this.

doubt the beer did much to you at f1/2...  of course i think it's better for your liver to heal up awhile before having beers on a regular basis.... no telling how quickly it will affect a sad liver over time tho.cry

i quit drinking  in 86'cos i had to due to drug and alcohol abuse and feeling crazy [i'm sure my liver was hoping i'd feel crazy enough to quit]. i have  mid f3 so quitting prob saved my life ]

that must be scary to have nuke melt down near by...

do they treat kidney stones or wait? i pray the antibios do the trick.

Glad you went to the doc for his decision.

We can guess he did a R&M (routine and microscopic) urine test while you were there, and (as well) collected a C&S (culture and sensitivity) test, for which there would soon be a result.

I assume the ER doc used his good judgement, perhaps basing treating you for a UTI on the signs shown via the preliminary R&M (a R&M might show things like protein/blood,WBC's/nitrates/turbidity/ph, etc.), and the further C&S would show the specific organism and what antibiotics it may be resistant to. A C&S usually does not take too long to return from the lab, maybe 24-48 hours somebody should be able to find the C&S result.

If it were me, I would follow up on getting the results of the C&S, to know for sure what organism it shows, and to make sure they will not be wanting to change your bactrim rx. I would also want to know what they found in the R&M.

Can you get an appointment to go see your regular doc and get the C&S result via him? Before your bactrim runs out (bactrim course tend to be short) it would be good to bumps heads with your regualr doc on the test results and whether you need any rx change, before you are finished the bactrim.

Should they ever mention again they wish to pursue looking for stones, do so, it hurts nothing to know you don't own any.

I hope the discomfort goes away quickly

You are good example for Tig - tell Tig he too should seek the advice/consult of a doc regarding his chest! mm, maybe 5 too with her sinuses! Never hurts to get an objective opinion, exam, tests or images as and if required. : )  C.

Dr. said if I'm not feeling better by Monday he wants an mri to check for stones. Thanks for the well wishes, yes lots of water...will do.

Polo, the lab in Canoga Park has been completely demolished, it was real interesting watching it get taken apart section by section. (I drive by it on way to bank) (Sierra's is gone too, and Mission Burritocry) It was the Santa Susana field lab that burned. Wow, you worked at both locations, what I would give to get on that field lab property. They do not let the general public in there. Did you ever see the Chumash cave painting there? I wonder if it was damaged. Anyway they have been doing clean up from the nuclear disaster for several years now. I was walking in a canyon next to Bell Canyon surveying the damage. Reports are mixed, some say no contamination has occurred, other reports say it's real bad. Sigh. That section of the Santa Susana's is about the most unique and beautiful place I know (next to Yosmite!) We go to Sage ranch alot, that's about as close as one can get.

Hey Iris,

Bactrim should have you feeling better quickly. Lots of water, too! Keep them well flushed, that’s very important. Get well soon!

Iris --- hang in there and I'm with Hoodie, don't stress (if at all possible). I get it though and know its hard at times...I like that you are taking walks. You mentioned that you walked at Rocketdyne labs that burned???? Is this the lab in Canoga Park or in Santa Susana area? I used to work at both places, working with development and manufacturing of the booster systems in Canoga Park and then hot fire testing in Santa Susana...so am curious about that..

Hi, thanks Hoodie, that's pretty awesome... you should be proud.

I just got back from urgent care. I'm being treated for a kidney infection. Seems I would have noticed a bladder infection first, no such symptoms. I think I have only had a kidney infection one other time in my life that I recall when I was around 18, I remember the giant sulfa pills. I seem to have read that Harvoni might aggravate kidneys, because of nerve damage, and thereby cause kidney issues.  He gave me Bactrim, don't think I have ever had this one.

BB, Iris

Oh Iris! Please dont stress! Youve achieved SVR 12 right? Youre going to be fine dear. Its funny you should bring up drinking because I havent had a drink in 18 years but Im going through so much stress right now Well suffice to say Ive had a bottle of wine in my cupboard for the past three years, a gift from a former employee. I literally just 20 minutes  before reading your post, took it down stairs and across the way and gave it to my landlady. I dont want the temptation. I hope and pray to never have another drop of alcohol as long as I live.  But thats just me, you are different. Maybe you are not an alcoholic, maybe you can  have a few beers and it wont lead to disaster. Im sending you lots of good vibes and hopes for a stress free life without this terrible virus. Be good to yourself my friend.

Yea, I figured I would be looked at crossed eyed for that, seems many folks here are friends of Bill W., but I want to be as honest as possible about what ever may be going on. I suppose if my liver is failing I will show symptoms like yellow skin and dark pee? I am  little freaked out about the Woolsey fire too, they are talking about nuclear toxins being dispersed for up to 100 miles because the Rocketdyne Field lab burned. And I went hiking around in the ashes 2 days later, got that weird blister immediately.  I saw a report about someone's liver failing 6 weeks after treatment, what if I did something to make that happen? I'm just resting today, if I don't move around much it's ok.

Iris, I am trying not to judge you here but I can't believe you are drinking at all after being cured:( I know the jury is out and some docs say one or two drinks a week is OK but personally I even check the labels of liquid OTC meds to make sure they contain no alcohol. Glad you seem to be feeling better but sounds like you do need to be checked out.

Hi guys, I just got up a little bit ago. Lovely 12 hour sleep smile. Took my temp. It's normal for me 97.6 Always a degree low. I would think if I had some sort of kidney infection I would have a fever. The pain is slightly less. My mom said it was from gripping the steering wheel so hard because about 4 of my 5 hour drive was in the pouring rain....seems awful deep for a muscle, and wouldn't be on both sides or in my arms or hands?  I may be to blame... I'm beginning to wonder if the couple beers I had over the holiday and B-day are twisting my liver. Sheeze.  I didn't drink that much, maybe 4 or 5  over 10 days. That doesn't seem excessive. I did have all kinds of weird food but the system is functioning as usual no "runs" or excessive flatulence, my stomach doesn't hurt more than usual, although I have been popping the anti-acids like crazy because of weird food. My one friend I visited and her beau are smokers and I feel like I smoked 3 pack of cigarettes in one day, this pain is maybe at the lowest edge of my right lung and wondered if being in that space aggravated my chest. (I quit over 23 years ago) I may go over to the Dr. They are open today. But really fear catching something while there. Thanks for all your support, I'm feeling very weepy today and I feel like a wimp. I suppose I could guess all day long.

BB, Iris

Hey Iris,

Too bad. Wonder what it is?! Hope it goes away, as quick as it came! Begone worrisome uncomfortable thing!

I remember we had a converse similar to this a while ago, all to do with RUQ discomfort, where you and Polo and i and 5 and Tig and maybe others were all surmising, guessing, thinking and I thought the best explanation (one of my always go-to favourites, as it often turns out true!) is that one should always look to the simplest, easiest, most common, least exotic explanation for a plight. Such as, a transitory passing of something (or other) in the GI tract, gas, stool, irritation, something you ate, poor peristalisis, constipation, brewing diarrhea, etc., etc.

Have you been having an upset stomache of late, have you been eating poorly, have you been exposed to any stomache flu - good grief i hope you aren't beginning a stomache flu! Have you been having belching, farting, having indigestion, acid regurg, changed your diet, are you regular? Any other clues at all for us to go on??

Sometimes just something as simple as being on the road, eating differently, different exercise, different fluid intake, can take tax a sensitive gut, and the gut will complain to you with a discomfort to let you know.

Unless you have distinct urinary type symptoms, my first thought would not be kidney. Nor am I thinking GB, as you don't own one, but many people with RUQ discomfort, naturally their minds might want to go there to GB. The bowel and it's contents can do weird things and it can feel uncomfortable, and what you feel can be mistaken for something more dire or exotic happening in your abdomen.

Don't fret. Do what you can to get sleep, respite and comfort from it. Keep your water intake up, drink lots of (not cold) warmed water. If it does not "pass", get it checked out. Given that I can see no other symptoms/info, along with what you have conveyed here, i can only guess that it will prolly be one of those things that is just going to pass. C.

Iris, I think you should see your doctor.  Maybe even urgent care since it's the weekend.  Guessing may not be good.

I hope you get a good night's sleep and feel better in the morning. Please check in and let us know.

Yesterday when I was driving back from Sac. I started getting a dull ache in the area under my right rib cage. When I got to moms (about half way home) It was real sore and I was so tired. I put on a heating pad thinking it was muscle related. But it didn't help much. When I sit real still it's fine. If I try to move it's pretty sore. Wonder if it's my kidney...or liver. It's in a little different spot from the usual liver pain.

I got up and drove the rest of the way home today and after an Epsom salt bath didn't help much, I'm worried. I'm so tired and In bed already at 7 pm.
