Great hearing from you John. After failing to achieve SVR with Sov/Riba in 2014 I completed my 2nd treatment (Harvoni 24 wks) Jan 2016, SVR confirmed 3 months later. I'm cirrhotic and still go bi-yearly for labs and MRI, US or CT scan. All imaging final result reports still list cirrhosis although decompensation symptoms have all disappeared or regressed other than a couple of more clamped varices 2 years ago. Cholelithiasis has always been listed, even pre Tx in 2013, but so far I have remained asymptomatic. I continue to eat healthy and drink 1 gal water daily and feel lovely in comparison to pre Tx. I haven't done much research on cirrhosis studies since SVR. I've forgotten most of what I learned about HCV, but I do remember reading somewhere about the molecular change in the liver cells indicative of cirrhosis being different than with fibrosis in the pre-cirrhotic stage. I believe that is the main issue with lack of regeneration as opposed to the same liver with fibrosis only.

Fibrosis: JL ,in our family my husband's fibroscore went down from almost f4 to f2.

mine has stayed at mid f3 after 2yrs. ..., But! my gallbladder surgeon said my liver looked pretty good so i'm going with what he said

i had my gallbladder out  in October 2019 and it helped the awful pain from stones.... it was painful afterwards so make sure you have pain pills. it really only hurt when i moved and holding a pillow against my abs helped a lot when i had to get up out of bed or cough.... i also slept on a big wedge pillow for awhile to make getting in and out of bed easier...  

i didn't take the pain meds after the first day since it only hurt when i moved... hubby brought me cut up toast and broth ; i still got up cos it's better... also i was told to try to stand up straight as possible rather than stay hunched over....that was hard but i knew it was better for me in the long run.

it took me a few weeks for the pain to lessen even tho i made progress daily.....However some ppl didn't have such a big deal as me. i'm short so i figured they didn't have much room to work in there within those small incisions so maybe i got banged up more.... but the incisions do go thru the muscle so there is that healing.

also don't lift anything heavy for as long as they tell you since that can cause hernias easier

i loved my surgeon and hospital crew

Hey Lam,

A 3 cm stone? Good Lord, that’s over a inch in size! No wonder your belly hurts. I’ve never seen one the size of a BIG marble before. Something that size can take years to develop. I bet you can look back and remember the times you wondered what was going on in your abdomen. I’m curious, did you ask if they ever saw evidence of that during previous ultrasounds? I know it’s water under the bridge, but I’d be asking why you’re just now hearing about it. 

I wish you a speedy recovery following your surgery this week. It sure helped me. I hope they’re able to perform it by laparoscopy. That’s a boulder! Good luck, Brother

I have seen several studies showing significant reduction in fibrosis measured by Fibroscan one to three years after SVR. My own fibrosis regressed from F3 to F2 after only one year. I have not had another Fibroscan but can attest my quality of life is significantly improved. Except for my gallbladder ... after a second gallbladder attack in less than 6 months (I have a 3 cm stone) I have surgery scheduled later this week.

Hi John,

It’s good to hear from you! I’m glad you’re getting along well and enjoying the Hep free life. Treatment has become very effective and so easy we don’t have much to talk about. It sure has improved since our time in the Interferon and Ribavirin jungle. That’s great news for Warriors still facing the Dragon. Sadly, there is an uptick in Hep C infections due to the opioid crisis. Hopefully that can be addressed before we’re back where we were with widespread undetected infections.

There hasn’t been much in the way of new treatment for cirrhosis. One of the best improvements that can be made, remains successful HCV treatment. It improves overall health and allows for gradual reduction in hepatic fibrosis. A healthy lifestyle and attention to the things we put in our body makes all the difference in the world. The good news is we do see improvements.

Here‘s some reading material on HCV and cirrhosis. There isn’t much out there on the subject of cirrhotic reduction following treatment specifically, but these professional articles and anecdotal evidence definitely point to it.

Yes, I am still ding well after successful treatment!  A 5 time loser on Interferon finally beat the dragon on Harvoni!  I am wondering if anyone heard anything on liver fibrosis reduction after successful treatment?  Are there any cirrhosis studies going in with new treatments?

Undetected at week 2 on solvaldi/rib/interferon:  stayed through week 12 but virus came back as soon as I stopped.  on   Harvoni and ribravirin 24 weeks undetected after two. 8/2/15  12 week EOT  UNDETECTED!  SVR
