Gidday Everyone,

Thanks guys, it's certainly a big relief to be so close now.  One more PCR at week 24 post-tx and I'm in the clear.

I hope it's a good omen for everyone else waiting on results, and to those still on tx, it just goes to show if you stick to your guns and tx will take care of everything else.

Cheers,

Brendan.

Hi there folks, some great results coming out.

Brendan, that is just so fantastic, I am soooo happy for you!  smile biggrin smile  You`re getting there, our Iron Man.

Aaron, nice results there, my tx twin!  Good luck with the PCR and also with the colonoscopy.  Let us know.

Randy, that doesn`t sound right - so you haven`t had a PCR since you`ve been on tx?  Hope you`ve had a good sleep.  Like your idea of counting viruses - better than counting sheep!  Sorry you`re feeling rough, keep resting when you can.

Take care all, love from Jill xxx

Gidday Everyone,

Popped into my regular Monday arvo pain clinic and crafty ol' Dr Pat master of pain had my week 12's sitting up in front of him.  Everyone seems to get a buzz out of embarrassing the hell out of me it seems, but they were all jumping up an' down over the fact I scored a negative for my PCR.w00t.gif  Needless to say amongst the carrying on and tom foolery, was one very relieved me.  Apart from the great result for my PCR other things amongst the many good counts were a neutro score of 2.91, which for me is massive.  Anyone that knows my tx story know I spent tx with a neutro floating around 0.5 and it's been a long haul in recovery geting things back to normal, so that is a great score.

My heamglobin was close to normal as well which is great, so I guess the reason I feel so wasted all the time is I'm just not fit enough yet.  Plenty of time for that.nod.gif it'll happen.

Randy:-  I agree with Greg that the PCR week 12's are pretty important and a standard with pretty well all countries, so rather than take the nurses word as gospel, check with the doc before getting to upset about it.  I know sometimes here in Oz if you've already cleared at say week 4, they dont bother with the easy to cure genos again until the end.  What were your week 4 results ?  I guess rather than go on what others here did, it might pay to double check what is normal where you are, but if you haven't gone UND yet you should have a week 12 PCR.

Greg:- Well done on that week 12 score of yours mate and yes you've done the big 2 log alright, in fact that's a drop of 2.95.  I guess knowing you've achieved the required drop in vl to go on is a big relief, I know it worried the hell out of me when I didn't until week 24, so get on with the good fight and give the rest of them little buggers an interferon bath.

For those that want to work out what the log means and how to determine their own scores, the log of 10 means everything is based on the scale of 10.

If you start with a vl of say 2,500,000, a log 1 drop is 250,000 and a log 2 drop is 25,000.  For a log 3 in the same scale. you just take away one 0 from the left side.

Using Greg's vl as an example, he started with 2,600,000, so a log 2 drop for you mate would have been 26,000, so you only just missed it (1.95) at week 4, which shows you are really doing well at tx. Trying to explain the degrees of a logarithm isn't quite as simple but just remember, each time you remove a 0 from the left it's a log so two zeros and you've got it.

Gotta crash, catch y'all later,

Cheers,

Brendan.

Randy-

Sounds like one of my Docs. They still give me bDNA tests
Hang in there and demand they give you a 12 week PCR. It seems like an uphill battle for us a lot of the time with societal issues, and the medical community as well. Try not to get frustrated the important thing is the meds are doing there job all else is minutiae.

Peace bro,

James

Grrrr Randy i feel frusrated for you!!! that just isnt fair,as you know i was having a awful time with tx few weeks ago when i heard i was clearing it it gave me a boost like nothing else could. do these people not care about your mental well being? its just as important as clearing this virus as the meds play with our heads. All i can say is what a few others on here have said and thats that this is your tx your journey, tell them you cant stand not knowing its driving you mad just make a big deal of it i guesshmm

when i found out i had this virus i buried my head in the sand no doc called me or really said i should start tx!!!untill just before christmas last year a doc from my surgery (who id never met) called and said i should do tx before its to late.one out of the many iv seen cared enough to do that.thank goodness he did. but it seems to most we are a numberdisbelief

keep us updated and maybe write down what you want to say and how you want to say it.good luck on 17th randy you have helped me sooo much smile

love kaz xxxx

Hi Randy,

Just reading your post regarding your 12th week PCR, mate that does not sound right, as you have said the 12th week PCR is a vital part of the tx regime, if your not responding to tx which is indicated by at least a log 2 drop in your VL count by the end of week 12 then they would discontinue tx, thats the norm as far as I know. The Quantitative test is what they call it as opposed to the Qualitative which is not the viral load test.

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong but Randy I would double check to make sure, hopefully it's just a communication problem between the the two terms used above, I can only imagine how frustrated you must feel about this and I feel for you mate. Just hang in there and get it sorted on the 17th. Sorry to hear that your feeling off colour could be an effect from the above, I know when I'm upset or anxious lately I get a sick feeling in my stomach which is not normal, another by product of the sx I guess.

Your doing well mate, you'll get this sorted I know take care and rest up and keep killing the dragon.

Take Care,
Greg

A lot of good sounding numbers posted here. Aaron, good to hear you are doing so well with post tx numbers. Greg, an incredable drop, so happy to hear you are kicking the virus. Kaz, I've always heard the alt will fluctuate some. It has come down from where it was and is in the normal range now, that's good I'd say. I know how you feel about the long waits too Kaz, I expect them now but don't like it all the same.

I called my Doc's nurse this morn to ask about the bloodwork form she sent. It didn't look like they had it marked to do the viral load so I wanted to ask about that. I thought the viral load was a big part of the 12 wk bloods to see how we're responding, etc. She said I already had one pre tx and he doesn't usually do another until after tx. Why does it seem like my doc does everything backwards to other docs on this forum? Some days it takes everything I've got to stay calm about this. I'm hanging in there though and will have a few questions for him on the 17th. I'm hoping his seemingly lack of concern is because I had a relatively low viral and geno 2a/2c to begin with.

Okay guys, I came home early to rest as I was feeling yucky tonight. So I'm off to count little viruses jumping over a fence and being distroyed by my meds as they land.

Take care,
Randy

James,

Thanks so much for your reply, that's great news really appreciate it mate. Looking forward to seeing my specialist next week. smile.gif

Aaron,

As James has said nice one there mate, negative TMA. Negative is got to be the most positive word you can hear on tx..... thumbsup.gif

Jill, flowerpot.gif

Yeah that story about that couple I just cannot understand how she is coping or how you could hide from your partner that you were on tx. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there like her with no support and only the nurse or doctor to talk to, makes me feel very small when I have a whinge about tx.

Take care everyone.

Greg

Each log drop is @ a 90% reduction.

Thus 2,600,000 x .1=26,000 (1)
26,000 x .1=2,600. (2)
2,600 x .1= 260. (3)

So you got your two log drop and you're really really close to a three log drop.
Contrats you're right on track !

Hi Greg, I don`t know how to work out log points either but those figures look good to me.    The tx is obviously doing its job so I hope you will be allowed to continue with it.  There`s so much waiting around involved with this tx.  I`m sure Brendan or James will be able to give you more info.

I was quite shocked at your story about that woman - I can`t even begin to imagine that scenario.

Good luck and keep enjoying those vegemite sarnies.   smile

Hi Kaz, I always had to wait from one appt to another to get any results.  Usually 4, sometimes 6 wks.  It seems to be the way it`s done over here.  But if you`re worried I don`t see why you shouldn`t phone and try and speak to your nurse.  It`s your tx after all!  Good luck with that and congrats on getting 10 shots done.  smile

Love and all the best, Jill xxx

Hi Everyone,

My GP just called to give me my VL which is 2,900.

Pre tx - 2.6 million
Week 4 - 69,000
Week 12 -  2,900

He couldn't tell me if that qualifies as a 2 log drop as it's up to my specialist to confirm whether I'm to continue tx based on these figures, but he won't be available until the 10th of May to confirm this. So I'm asking here if James or Brendan or anyone else can enlighten me as I know they have extensive knowledge on this subject, to me it looks bloody fantastic which means another 35 weeks of tx. Cool i'm up for it. BRING IT ON!

One happy little vegemite:

Thanks
Greg

G'Day Kaz,

I would'nt worry too much about your ALT's as I do believe they fluctuate during tx, (as James and BJ have stated) however if your still concerned do talk it over with your nurse/doctor to set your mind at rest and good luck for the 23rd.

Yes I'm very lucky to have Cate looking after me it's great to have that kind of support, my nurse told me she has a lady that is going through tx and her partner doesn't even know she has hep c let alone doing tx. She is scared of losing him if he found out about her having hep c, I really feel for her and often think how she is coping with it all. so yes I do count myself very lucky.

Take care and again good luck for the 23rd. flowerpot.gif
Hugs
Greg

Gidday Everyone,

Hey ya' gotta' remember that you are getting into some fairly powerful and disruptive drugs that are having a real ding dong in your liver with the virus, and fluctuating enzyme counts only indicate that all's well and the drugs are doing their job.

Also try and keep in mind that some of us have naturally active endocrine sytems that drive high metabolisms when confronted, so providing eveyrthing drops back to a relatively low count after tx, all's well. thumbsup.gif

On another point about these up and coming PCR results we've got, I'm s'posed to go in and get mine on Friday the 13th. so pulling an UNDy that day'll be a double bonus. w00t.gif

Cheers,

Brendan.

Hi Everybody,

It's good to hear about all those positive numbers!

James and Elizabeth - those liver numbers are very positive (a 19, Wow Elizabeth!).  And James, if my hematocrit gets back above 40 I suppose they will have to start taking out iron again, it was at 36.7% a couple of weeks ago, so yours sounds great.

Good luck to everyone on those PCR tests!  I think the doctor told me I wouldn't be tested until I was at six-months post tx.  It did seem like a long time to wait.  I might need to call him and remind him that I am in that special group that must always get extra attention.  (We call it the squeaky wheel group over here, lol.)  Take care, tysmile

Gidday Everyone,

Best of wishes to James and Elizabeth,** remember you impatient lot - PCR's take a while, and like a good cake or a nicely aged wine, rushing it will not help:)

I had mine done on Thursday morning and could probably get an insight if I rang someone next week, but I'm not sure if a little longer in the cellar wouldn't hurt my red.  I figure it's taken a hell of a long time to get to this point, might be disrepectful to rush things, besides I'm not sure, so ............

Still, that's just me, I'm not good at these things.  Took me a while to get the hang of passing a PCR, but then again I passed my 24, 36. 48 and 72 week PCR's, so I guess I won't wreck that fine run.  And to think I was pushing the boys in the lab at one stage to let me do a PCR every 2 weeks after tx finished, for research reason of course (bullshwink).  It's bad enough I'm having a 12 and 24 week PCR, every 2 weeks would've driven me round the bend........matbe week 12's have....confuse

Best Wishes

Brendan

**and Greg

Good idea for a thread James, and your results sound great so far.

Elizabeth, nice to hear from you, I can understand you wanting to put it all out of your mind for a while.  ALT of 19 - that`s amazing!

Thinking of you all and hoping for the best possible results James, Elizabeth and Greg.

All in all looking good but haven't heard about my VL yet so don't know whether I have that elusive 2nd log drop, my GP may call me next week but the final word comes from my specialist so I may have to wait till the 10th of May for that one.

Dee,
Always great to see your posts, hope your doing well always in my thoughts.

Best of luck
Greg

Hi Beth, I was worried about you. Your ALT sounds good. It should range from 0-40. So yours is wonderful. In March (last blood work), mine was 26. Friday you get your PCR results and I wish you the best. Keep us posted.    Hugs Dee

Hi Annie. Thanks I appreciate the good wishes. It is stressful, I feel like I'm in initial diagnosis mode...lol. Wow that was one year ago, man how much I've learned about this disease and myself.

Hi Beth. Nice ALT numbers ! Your liver is on holiday and taking a well deserved rest ! Thinking about you and your result, good luck times infinity !

Love ya both,

James

Hi James, Just want to wish you luck for the PCR. I know the wait can be nerve-wracking! All your other results sound good.

I thought I'd start a new thread where people could post there labs. I had my labs done at 11 am today and got the results via e-mail at S1 pm. Except PCR. Anyway: Hematocrit 48.8, HGB 17.2, ALT 37, AST 35, WBC 6.8 They look good, it blows me away how well my HGB came back the altitude probably helped. I'll post PCR as soon as I get it. FINGERS CROSSED ! James
