Hurtful and scary. Thank God for you people and I really mean that because without all of this helpful and crucial info, then I really would be freakn out. Zyrtec, hydocortosone on list.  Thank-you so much, and God Bless, Lori

Excellent, Lori, and let us know how it goes.  Hey, I get a heat rash every time I see a photo of Stephen Moyer (the hot Brit who plays a vampire on Trueblood) so that would not be unusual for me either. biggrin

Just finished 2nd shot, eating kettle-corn popcorn and about to do some Haagan Daaz..  What you said LOL THATS HYSTERICAL, and thats just the kind of stuff I'll say too! I always say stuff like that anyway, after all this IS K.W. and just about anything is acceptable down here.   Thats exactly where I have the rash, plus I cut 6 inches off my hair to a short bob, to keep the hairs from irritating the rash thats trying to creep up on the back of my neck. Claritin and cotton gloves.. got it! As far as trying to cover it up I have so many allergies anyway I think Ill go the topical route.  Im going to text my drs nurse now and request a script for that betametasone cream. Thankyou so much, you're awesome!biggrin Talk soon and God Bless!  Lori

Yikes!  The good news is that this will probably pass within a short time, but as Anna noted, do stay on top of rashes and itching because they can become very serious.

In the meantime, there are things you can do that should help; at least they helped me.  First, you can apply topical remedies.  Second, you can treat from the inside-out by using oral meds and hydrating.  Third, you can not make it worse--as Brad said-- DON"T SCRATCH.  Fourth, you can try to disguise it for your public appearances.

For topical remedies I used a 1% OTC hydrocortosone cream until I got my paws on some BETAMETHASONE cream 1%.  They worked about equally well but since I was using it by the vat for a while I went with the prescription cream (the tx drugs maxed out my out-of-pocket expenses for insurance so all prescription drugs cost nothing after that).  Oatmeal has some soothing qualities and worked well for my body rash; I don't see why you could not whip up a little water and oatmeal paste and apply a bit to your face.

Benadryl is popular for an oral med but it knocks me out so I used Claritin.  This also seemed to help.  And, remember to hydrate; water and green tea especially.

To help myself NOT SCRATCH I cut my fingernails very short and wore lightweight cotton gloves to bed.

I would go easy on trying to hide it because sometimes that only looks worse.  Also, you want to be careful about what you put on it to disguise it. A lightweight, tinted moisturizer (pat, don't rub) may help.  Keeping the area a little bit moist will improve the appearance of it, so a gentle, alcohol free, moisturizer should do the trick.

My rash and itching came and went not only during tx but for a couple of weeks after tx ended.  I had it more on my body than face but I did get the facial blotches, mostly around my nose and at my jawline, from time to time.  The facial rashes came and went during tx but they usually only stayed for a few days and were quite manageable.  I'm hoping yours will be too.dohbleh

P.S.  You mentioned that you work in sales and for that I might suggest that if you have a big honkin rash on your face it might be best to try to diffuse the situation rather than hide it.  For example, you can start off by saying something like "Don't be alarmed by my heat rash," and "Don't worry leprosy is barely contagious and highly treatable these days."  You get the idea.

Hi

I found once-a-day zyrtec (or generic ceterizine) helpful.  I take it daily, needed or not, and have upped it to twice daily as I developed a tolerance to it.  It is diurectic, so even *more* water is needed for hydration.  I believe hydrating has helped reduce my rash also.  I try to stay out of the sun too, since I have read that it can be a trigger.

I have had both the incivek, and ribavirin rash, though not too badly.  The little pimply one was from the Ribavirin.  The Incivec was more of a blotchy red, under the skin kind of thing.  I have been off Incivek for 8 weeks now, but still get way itchy at night from the riba.

Oh, one last thing, DONT SCRATCH no matter what.,  Every time I scratched, it itched worse, and caused the rash to last a LONG time.

At the very worst times, I use Gold Bond maximum itch relief.  It is kind of expensive, for how small the tube is, but the cooling menthol really helps for about half an hour, long enough for me to get to sleep.

I only have a month left, but if I were to do it over, I would get a 'script for atarax (hydroxyzine).

And of course, do get hold of your doc, asap.

Best,

Brad

Need to call MD Monday and see about getting a prescription hydrocortisone creme. In mean time go get over the counter zyrtec and take daily. Get over the conter 1% hydrocortisone creme and use it. Make sure you tell MD you are using those two over the counter meds. If you are on Incevik it is doubly important to call MD Monday about this rash as Incevik can cause very bad rashes that can get out of control if not treated properly first off. But til then the Zyrtec and OTC hydrocortisone creme will help and won't hurt you. You could add in some benadryl once a day also til you call MD.
