The first few weeks of shots--I thought I was the bomb--no red marks or bruising--didn't hurt. Then all of sudden bruises starting appearing on my thighs and I was getting a little shaky and stabbing myself. Now go for the stomach--lots of fluffy stuff there and it is quick and easy.

I highly recommend shots in the butt.  I had zero problems once I started doing it this way. The butt is just so well suited for subcutaneous injections.  If you lie on your side you can probably do it yourself, or possibly even from a standing position, but having a brave friend or family member do it is even better.  Nothing says "I trust you" like exposing your bare arse to someone who is holding a syringe. biggrinyawn

I've been fairly lucky. All I ever see is a slightly red patch that seems to show up better in the warm bath. It lasts a week or so and fades away. But it helps me spot last weeks site, so I can be sure to move around. No real pain, and no significant bruising. However, I must admit I don't do the little pull back thing to make sure I haven't hit a vein. There are no veins in in my little roll of chubby... just chubby. I am not coordinated enough to do all of that without breaking something. I don't worry about it.

Man I must have some good amount of muscle in my belly (though you wouldn't know it to look at it LOL) cuz several shots it hurt like hell and bruised too boot.

If you hit muscle it'll be excruciating. Youd know. Other than that or I guess it oozing out visibly I think you're fine. I had bad sides the first shOt than almost none for the next ten. Almost being the key word :) nothing major just annoyances. God bless Mike

This is one reason I live this forum. I had the same concern Sub Q means between fat and muscle and I was sure my roll was deeper than the needle length. I actually give in my thigh more often now just because I'm not holding my shirt up with my chin but too was reassured "I was getting it right"

I know the feeling. For the 1st two shots, there were very few side effects, just the mild flue like symptoms, which created a lot of doubt and anxiety about whether I did it right. It is hard to mess up. But I still read the instructions each time just for that feeling of comfort. Number 3 and several after that were different. Man, I must have done that one right! Once I got the water thing right and started following all of the doctor's orders to the tee, it has become more predictable, on the positive side. It just took a while to get comfortable with it.

Cinnamon Girl you're like my angel, you have helped me so much and are always there for me. I wish do something really nice for you to thankyou. As I was reading your words "Its OK" it was almost like I could hear you saying them! I almost feel kind of silly now but thats just me, and with what I know now about the night and day of shot to shot, I hope I can pay it forward and help others, the way you are helping me. Oh My Gosh I am so HAPPY!  What a roller coaster this is turning out to be!  I still cant believe that I feel good today!  Its wonderful, and i suddenly have a glimpse to the quality of life I'll have when this is over! Alan thats really good advise about going to where the fat is because I ran track in my younger years and my legs are in pretty good shape still, but at 52 Ive got the middriff bulge. So  I guess X marks the spot.  Thanks for the snack idea, im already celebrating with a tub of lime sherbert this morning. Dont think Ill eat the whole tub, just like having it next to me.  Alan, thankyou so much for responding to my sos, because I really was freakn out. God Bless you. Lori

What a wonderful bit of news. Isn't it insane how much variation there can be from one week to the next? Now, your job number one is to enjoy these good days whenever they come. In the weeks to come there will be a few bad days, but now you know they are unpredicatble and they always pass.

I'd say you need to get a pint of the really good vanilla ice cream and some Barq's Root Beer for tonight's snack. You deserve it. And to echo Jill's good advice, it is really hard to botch a subcutaneous injection. If it goes under the skin, it is a good one. If it goes up in the air, it is a bad one. I found the abdomen to be the easiest area because I am chubbier there. It is hard to "pinch an inch" on my thigh. Also, it seemed to me the thigh injections had quicker and more pronounced side effects, like the medicine is absorbed quicker. Just my observations. Absolutely no scientific basis.

So anyway, have a wonderful week, and count on the fact there will others to come.

After the horriffic 1st shot side effects , I bundled up, took advil, and put out the extra blankets on the bed, but I didnt have any side effects except for sweating. Instead of my leg, I went into my lower left stomach. Is it possible that I somehow missed, and didnt get my dose? IM FREAKN OUT. OH NO, OH NO, OH MY GOD I HOPE NOT. Could someone please tell me something, Please. Im counting on you guys. Cayohueso 1

It`s what I say to my daughter when she`s upset! smile No need for you to feel at all silly Lori - tx is a huge thing to go through, and all of us who`ve been there know what it`s like to feel worried and scared.  I had so much support from some lovely people on this forum when I was on tx and was so glad of it!

I love Alan`s description of a good shot "If it goes under the skin, it is a good one. If it goes up in the air, it is a bad one."   So true!

I only ever did my shots in my belly area as I had a nice bit of flab there to pinch up, alternating sides each week. It`s easy to see what you`re doing there too.

Take it step by step, you`ll soon be taking it all in your stride and advising other people just starting out!

It`s OK Lori, no need to worry!!  smile  You injected it in, it`s gone in and you`ve had your dose - it`s just the difference  between the first and second shots.  And I`m so relieved to hear it went so well, congrats!!

This is why it`s always so difficult to tell people what to expect from their shots, as it varies a lot from person to person, and even from week to week.  Always best to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
