RE: Injection site bruising, discoloration

Hi JoAnne, I inject a different side each week. I have a piece of paper with a map of my lower abdominal wall below the umbilicus, with 4 squares each side. I mark each injection site with an X (pencil) and number. When I get to X8,  I go to X1 for my next injection, and put a tick next to it.

                   X1  **             X7  *                        X8 *               X2 **

                   X5  **             X3  **                      X4  **            X6 *

This is what it looks like now after 13 injections. I cannot see my last injection site, and my brain is mush so I cannot remember. I know it sounds a bit anal, but I have not had any problems, and it gives me some excitement! I don't have much fat but I find it easier to pinch up a small fold of skin on the abdomen. I take the syringe and needle out of the fridge 15 minutes before.

Like Tim, I'm also in the High Desert.  (Right next to you Tim, in Palmdale, CA).  I Love the sun but now I simply cannot tolerate it.  I've often joked I'm now part vampire, as I can feel myself burning like fire burning within seconds of sun exposure.  Get so burned driving with my moonroof open for a few mins!  And I get Itchy and bumpy from sun, now.  no

I do the Interferon injections in abdomen, only.  Better below belly button for me.  I keep a log each week of which side, but the large red spots on my tummy remind me clearly, lol.

I save my thighs for the Neupogen injections.  Will start Epogen (Procrit) injections next week, as well.  Need more body parts with good injections sites, lol.

That's exactly what I get! Thanks, I'll try ice pack this week. Before or after or both?

My NP doesn't like us to inject anywhere but stomach and thigh!
The diagram she gave me shows injecting above belly button and below!
I like what u suggested Malcomb as I have only had four shots
And I feel most comfortable w my stomach BUT
Don't feel I have much fat above the belly.
Do you go R to L four on each side Malcomb?
I would feel comfortable staying on stomach.
Margo I hope ur bruising improves rapidly!!
I haven't had problem w that symptom as of yet!
'Fire in the hole' has been my worse.
No sun and sunglasses a must. Can't drink my thirst
Away either.
1st lab showed mildly anemic not need to adjust
Medicines yet.
I am gainIng weight eating so much fat!
Its such a challenge!
All and all happy w my progress and glad to finally be on board
Total tx is 48 weeks! One week at a time:)

I live in the "High Desert" near Victorville, Ca. and love to work outside but, the sun gives me a wicked 'allergic-looking' rash, so I wear long sleeve shirts, a broad-brimmed hat and 50+ sunscreen on any remaining uncovered skin.     gen068.gif

Mallani, last night I injected interferon at a room temperature and it just killed me. Aches and pains, I just got out of bed at around 11am! I don't know if it has to do with the temperature of the medication, but I've never had that last 5 times...Maybe it's just one of those nasty sx.

margo, it is definately supposed to be at room temp when we shoot it...

Lol Dave, good idea...then I'll move on to different parts so maximize the tan lines:)

Lol Shep, I was at the pool with my kids for 2 hours and got a nasty burn and I'm not very fair skinned in general. I did become more sensitive to the sun especially my eyes! I wear sunglasses untill 6pm, weird. Mallani, last night I injected interferon at a room temperature and it just killed me. Aches and pains, I just got out of bed at around 11am! Hi Margo, After 2 previous courses of interferon ( 3 times a week ) and now 13x Peg., I have injected interferon 325 times. I have only used the abdomen below the umbilicus. I have 4 sites on each side of the midline and actually write down which one I use so it's 9 weeks between the same site. I have never had a problem. Make sure the syringe and needle are at room temperature.

I could not stand to go in the sun!

I initially had lots of bruising on my thighs--switched to the belly and rarely get bruises. Just some slight redness--everyone is different though. I think as long as it is not painful, swelling or accompanied by itchiness should be ok.

Thanks guys, I do alternate but it just adds more bruises. My doctor told me not to use my belly this time around, I never asked why. Tanning helps but they say sun isn't healthy while on the treatment...I don't know, I guess it's my body's reaction and that's it. Someone mentioned about injecting at a room Temperature, that's what did today, well see if it works.

My Np too told me to rotate but part way into tx they discovered, though the interferon is working, my body is having some allergic reaction to it; so I have been told to inject only in my belly; which alternating there is near impossible as it takes (for me) over a month for redness, itchyness, and bruising to go away.
If you can alternate your shot sites, and try to keep track of what shot went where during what week to help you keep track. That helped for me.
(toasts water glass) hope your sfx are few!

margo, best advice I have is to be sure to rotate to all four injection sites so no area ever gets a shot more than once a month.  And a good tan helps!
