I use some stuff from Kirk's Coco Castile. The bar soap I can get at about any store. The shampoo I had to get on-line. I had a couple of scaly crusty spots on my scalp. But its also flea and mosquito season here, and I share the couch with the dog, so who knows. TX and the dog always get the blame, right?

Thanks Phil.

Wow--learn something new every day. I have had these on and off throughout tx. Just thought it was a reminder to drink more water. I also used just a Burt's Bees chapstick at night. They would go away in a few days. But I do think water is the key to prevention. My nurse gave me the guideline of how much water to drink--take my weight and divide in half--then drink that many ounces of water. I use that as the minimuim amount of water and try to drink much more.

I get these from time to time. Carmax, lip balm, and vasaline applied regulary resolved the problem. And I did switch to a regular toothpaste (flouride, but not whitening, tarter control, etc.) That helped a lot with the irritation. Same thing I've had to do with soap, shampoo, and other things. We are a sensitive lot!

Thank you guys, I do drink less water now but will try to uptake more. Everything feels so dry. So it is fungal, i guess I need to feel one more prescription. They'll soon know me by my first name there :)

Angular cheilitis is a fungal or bacterial infection causing fissures at the corners of the mouth. It is common in people with immunosuppression, low neutroplils or anaemia. Dehydration is a factor. It is easily cleared by an antifungal or antibacterial cream. I had a mild case that disappeared in 2 days from applying vaseline. It is not particularly an 'Incivik thing'.

As a preventative, lots and lots of water works best for me.  Anytime I get dehydrated, like when I run out of water on a long hike,  I can count on having dry chapped lips for the next 2 days.  Then that makes it easier for a secondary infection to start.  It was much worse on the HepC  triple TX, due to the diuretic properties of the drugs.

I know that's not a lot of help now, but maybe will help prevent it in the future.

I got painful cracks at the corner of my mouth as well as a spreading area of redness.  My dentist thought it was caused by fungi and wrote me a prescription for an anti-fungal.  That didn't work so I went to the dermatologiist.  He said his first approach would be an anti-fungal ointment as well; since that didn't work he wrote me a scrip for an anti-bacterial ointment.  That cleared it up right away.

A month later it came back.  This time the anti-bact ointment didn't work.  So I switched over to the anti-fungal and it cleared right up.

I think we are more suscetiple to any type of infection with our lower WBC and neutrophils.

Some people can also be sensitive to the foaming agent in most toothpastes.  You might switch to an all natural brand like Tom's

I have this cracked sore at the corner of my mouth that would not go away for two weeks. I thought it was a cold sore and got abreeva. Just read online that these are called Angular Chellitis and they appear when you are anemic. I know my hb and hematocrit is low but not critical. Anyone experienced that and what remedies did you use?

Hmmm, doesn't sound like fun at all, is this an "Incivek thing"? I've got [probably] 18/19 weeks to go, I can't imagine my skin and hair becoming even more wretched feeling...but, I do know that's a distinct possibility  hmm

I had been making a conscious effort to stay fully hydrated(2+ liters) prior to start of tx, as I was already having dry-everything issues.

My NP recommends a minimum of 3 liters a day; sometimes that's hard for me to stay on track with.
