Chatterbox, sounds just like me! I go to open my mouth to speak to my husband and all that comes out is yelling. I hate watching my family suffer through this, but I know it will be over soon. I went to the Dr and was put on Zoloft and Ativan. WOW, huge difference! I can actually be calm for the first time since starting this horrendous treatment!!

Is it normal?!! Boy I thought I wasnt so bad until about 17,18 weeks when I had my doctors appointment and crying said I don't think my 22 year marriage would survive me finishing my treatment and that I now only liked 2 of my three kids and that none of my family liked me anymore. I was either so furious with - whatever it was- big things like trash not being taken out that- I could barely speak without crying. I had to go to the DMV twice in one week and had to talk mysel off the ledge of yelling about the wait. Yeah, it's normal stuff. I'm so glad that it'll recide after treatment. Kinda like my hairline. Arg.

I make sure to fast forward through that ASPCA commercial so I don't have to see all the mistreated animals. cry  This is strange, but I think cruelty to animals bothers me more than cruelty to people.  Like when Old Yeller gets shot.

Thank you Malcom and marktrux for your opinions.. We dont have to start it immediately, but that is one of our options. I just posted a new topic with more details in this. From what you are saying, incivek is adding significant effects of its own not just in anxiety, and they are quite severe. I am wondering if side effects are worse on kids or oppsite? .. In some cases kids carry treatments better than adults.. But i'm dreading to take my son thru all these shots and side effects. I hope he wont have to do 48 full weeks as i had to. Thank you!! Lana

Is this anxiety mostly because of Incivek? I went thru treatment few years ago and got cleaned pegasys/ribavirin, but my 9 year old son will need to get a treatment too. Triple treatment are not approved for kids yet, but we have a chance to participate in clin trial, so i'm trying to learn more effects of he 3rd drug. Does it make it much worse that dual treatment?.. Thank you

If incivek is the third drug in the trial, i dont think i could do that to a child. Incivek brings its own "special" kind of hell, that i would'nt wish on my worst enemy, much less a child. Personally if it were my child, i think i'd wait on some of the new Rx's in clinical trials to be approved.  But i don't have any kids and will never be forced to make that decision, so it's easy for me to sit here and preach.

Hi Marfa, Anxiety is not particularly an Incivek side effect. Anxiety/depression are common symptoms in HCV treatment, and Interferon is the main offender. With triple therapy, adding the antiprotease seems to augment the side effects. The neuropsychiatric side effects vary enormously from person to person. Some patients require antidepressants and antianxiety meds, while others have no real problems.

Do you have to treat a 9 year old with Incivek? I would have real problems with that, particularly as less toxic drugs will soon become available.

Yea, I hear you. I went through it and didn't realize how bad it was until I stopped tx. Try to get outside and get some fresh air. I know it sounds like baloney but it works for me. I go for a short walk by myself and take a few deep breaths and come home with a little less stress.
We are all lucky to still be around I think. Hang in there D.

I think you could say this sort of thing is normal. The irritable, short tempered and emotional part is absolutely normal. I have heard it called riba rage for the short temper, and many of us have mentioned bursting into tears or getting a lump in the throat just from a TV commercial or a song. Let's face it. This treatment stuff is intense and affects every part of us. Inside, outside, in the head....no place is exempt. I knew I was feeling it when I found myself sobbing while watching an ASPCA commercial on TV, with Sarah McLaughlin singing "Eyes of an Angel" while pictures of shelter animals appeared. My family were looking at me in abject horror, like any second my head was going to spin all the way around. They eventually got used to my unpredictability, but I would still get those looks from time to time. The only thing I would watch out for is depression. I never had that....at least no more than ever. But depression can be a major part of treatment, and require medicines to control it. If you get to that point it's up to you to speak up and get some help. A bunch of us have used antidepressants during treatment. Alan

I am in 17th week of tx, felt great after Incivek finished. Now I am experiencing a great deal of anxiety, that is becoming almost unbearable. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I know depression is common with the tx, I am irritable, short tempered, and emotional just to name a few. Is this common?
