I did dual treatment of interferon/riba when I was 19 and 20, was still active but it kicked my butt some.  This time around with the triple treatment at 31 and 32 it kicked it even harder along with a dose of severe anemia but I have been testing negative for about a year now.  The pain is worth it so keep going.  Just focus on light fitness...I did exercise in 10 minute intervals a few times each day because I would make myself sick if I did any more than that.  Good luck!! :)

You will really appreciate starting this deal in good shape, physically and mentally. TX caught me by surprise but luckily at a time when I was in good shape and practicing good habits. Can't imagine the other way around, considering the shape I was in when I finished. Good luck.

Hi Jonathan

Good luck with your  TX. Hope this time around its gonna work for you. I am on triple TX with Incivek as well.  Same pattern as you - lost about 10 kgs (22 lbs) before SOT.

My doc had told me I would lose more during TX. Actually I gained 10 lbs in the first 4 weeks. Thats the effect of a proper nutrition regimen +  3 x day 20gr fat intake.

There is a food list which helps boosting your hemoglobine, wbc, rbc, etc. This may include some meals you would usually try to avoid, but the priority is to get cured and keep your physical and menthal health up during tx.

Appetite is poor, small portions and frequent meals are recommended. Try to stay low on carbos (within necessary daily portion) and avoid mixing them with fat.

You probably will experience some weakness and fatigue, especially after the shots, like many of us did. My workout was out of question.

Since week 5 I started feeling bit better and forced myself into a small jogging or rowing every 2nd day. Like 15-20 mins tops in a low tempo. Just to sweat it out a bit. Hopefully, the weight gets back to where it was

after Incivek part is over (12 weeks) and you can plan your daily meals better, without being forced to make love to 20 gr of fat. Good luck again, cheers!

i did 48 weeks. slept heaps. was grumpy. sometimes angry. very tired, fatigued, lost weight, (i like that side tho), but had no energy and when i did do something hard i felt it. worked for 3/4 of treatment then got made redundant which was actually a blessing in disguise.

its hard but handleable, i just finished a month ago. just starting to feel a bit 'normal'

they put me on anti depressants before i even started treatment, coz it depletes our seratonin.

lots of support here, real good people. dunno what i woulda done without them all :)

good luck this time round.

I am a non responder - level 2 - week 22 of the 48 week track

First time around was peg/riba and I was beaten down a bit then, needed lots more sleep but was pretty active.  I was prob 54 at time.

Now I am 59 and the addition of Incevik had me undetected at the two week mark and ever since.  It is kicking my but, no stamina and some days better than others and some weeks better than others.  I have not found a real pattern.  My latest issue is sleep deprivation, something that did not bother me the first 4 months.

Once committed to this treatment, you can make it work.  I have gained 20lbs over the almost 6 month period, I am 6'7", the Doc said he is not concerned considering the diet during Incevik.

Good luck and keep us posted.

If you have a choice, choose Pegasys instead of Pegintron, big difference. Incivek was the hardest on all of us but its only for 3 months. Good luck and take it easy, we all resond differently to treatment.

I am 53. 2nd time did Invicek w peg/RIBA.
Week 26 of 48. 1st time: was harder emotionally has doctor put me on antidepressant
Three in tx That made my symptoms worse. It was suppose to help concentration but made sleeping hard to do. Then came low dose 25mg of seroquel.
I was in good condition until about 51 and started
Feeling fatigued. I worked full time last time.
Not this time I work as wanted. Manage to stay busy.
But invicek kicked me in the bed!
I have good energy few days a week. Rest is so important!
A good attitude will help a lot. I have dizziness and shortness of breath so gym is out.
Alan just finished 36 weeks and rode bike while time.
Welcome aboard and we are here to help!

Hi and welcome, Jonathan. We have similar stories but you are younger. You will find good info on the forum- use the Search button for any topic. We are here to help and support, so ask any questions and someone will come up with an answer. I also, did not have any problems from SOC in 2000, but adding the PI and using Peg. instead of x3 weekly IFN may be a different matter.  Good luck, may your Sx be few.

2time, if you read through the Stickies, you can get a lot more information.  I suspect while some don't have as many sides - we mostly have similar ones; fatigue, nausea, rash, anal burning, dizziness, depression, lack of energy, grouchiness and sleeping to much or not enough.  While this might seem like a boatload of problems, it is manageable. I find that the day goes by better if I can find some twisted humor in all the misery. Maybe its just me, but I find my day also goes better when I hang out on this board.

hey all,

i am a non responder who finished my first round of treatment over 10 years ago.  it didn't "take" and my lateset liver biopsy, puts me at high stage 3 - stage 4.  i am now waiting to start peg-interferon-telaprevir-ribavirin regimen.  i am 53 now, in good shape and wondering how much this stuff is gonna kick my @$$?  my doctor painted a bleak worst case scenario, his job, but i am looking to this community for some first hand knowledge and insight.

i managed to stay very physically active the first time around, and it's my goal to do so this time.  appreciate any advice, comments, etc, of how you made it through.  i was told that i'd only have to do the telaprevir for 3 months or so, but the course of my entire treatment was about 48 weeks.

so, people, what's on the horizon for me? thanx in advance.
