Yesterday I went to my Vascular surgeon. He told me I have a acute varicose in a secondary vein. I was given a Heprine type x2 daily injection to thin out my blood. He can't see why treatment would cause this. Brian

Sorry to hear, Brian.  Glad you're feeling better today.  Yes, Vernon is right; I have noticed several issues that reared their heads during tx with Intron, Riba, & Vic.  Old injuries that I was able to manage for years felt like new ones.

Spent 8 hrs at the emergency room last night because of the ankle. They told me I had cellulosic infection. I was given 2 antibiotics another ultrasound and complete blood count. I have been out of work for a week because I can't walk. Today I feel a bit better. My GI's NP called to say the infection swelling and high temp. Was all Tx related.

Doesn't treatment lower or compromise our immune system and make us more susceptible to all sorts of things? I assume that a variety of things that our immune system was containing will now be more forthcoming or noticeable? Could this explain why my normal aches and pains are worse?

Went to My primary he got me right into a ultrasound. They didn't see any DVT but I have to get surgery on my secondary veins sooner rather then later. I've had flare ups before in this ankle but it usually goes back to normal over night. Right now I can barley walk due to pain. It's been three days.

Hi Brian, I can't see how an old DVT would cause problems. However, anything is possible on these meds. For the last few weeks I've developed some swelling and pain in my hands and wrists. I've had to take my wedding ring off, and my watch is suddenly too tight. My albumen is normal so I'm not worried about it. See your doc if it gets worse, but really, nothing surprises me anymore about Sx. Cheers.

Some swelling of the ankles is not uncommon in cases of liver disease. I noticed mine got worse and better, back and forth, during treatment. I also used surgical stockings at times, although I have not needed them since treatment ended. This is one of those things that should be reported to the doctors and monitored carefully, but not worried about (in my opinion). From where I am sitting yours looks like a perfect treatment, with obvious signs of response and effectiveness. I know you are miserable, but I'd be willing to bet you are getting well.

Those pains should hopefully calm down as you adjust to med, especially after u get past Invicek.
Try to rest ur ankle more than normal right now too. You are almost 1/2 way finished with Invicek.
Relief is coming just rembwred you are enduring this to prevent
Liver transplant etc.....
Rest as much as possible and drink lots of water

Interferon may cause unusual bleeding and bruising. Please inform your doctor so he stays on top of things.

Hi there Brian, I have seen people saying this sort of thing before, that tx has exacerbated old wounds and health problems.  It does seem to find our weakest points somehow.   Having said that, it would probably be a good idea to have it checked out just to make sure it`s all ok.  Are you doing or taking anything to help with the pain and swelling, apart from wearing the compression stocking?   Sorry you`ve got this to cope with as well as tx, hope it eases up.  All best, Jill xx

I had a blood clot in my ankle 26 yrs ago. I've been on treatment now for 7 wks. I sometimes wear a compression stocking to help with the swelling. The past couple of days I've had unusual pain and swelling in the area where I've had trouble in the past. Will Tx make worst old injuries or bring forth old troubles?
