I am new to this site.  I am on 3x riba, interferon, incivek.  I am finishing up week 4.  I have experienced the exact pain-tightness mentioned above for years.  It has come and gone throughout the years.  I have not experienced the pain thus far during treatment.  My previous Dr. always basically dismissed it. I have learned not to know what to expect with each new day as far as sx go.  I hope yours gets better.

Liver pain is a pretty vague symptom. The only sensory nerves supply the liver capsule and biliary system. So, liver pain should only occur when the liver capsule is stretched (eg from inflammation), or from gallbladder disease.

Many HCV patients claim to experience vague liver pain or 'discomfort' or 'heaviness'. Many docs dismiss this with 'the liver doesn't feel pain'. There certainly would be a psychological element in some patients. When patients start Rx for HCV, there is an initial massive destruction of virus, which can cause hepatocyte damage. This probably causes an acute inflammatory reaction with some liver swelling, and slight rise in liver enzymes. It is no wonder that such patients feel some liver pain or discomfort. This usually settles over the few weeks of Rx.

As Rx goes on, patients are very aware of their liver- a slight muscle twinge becomes liver pain. If Rx is being successful (undet's), there should be no inflammation and no real cause for liver pain.

Any severe or persistent pain should be investigated as gallstones and cholecystitis can occur.

I did experience the same exact pain which started around week 20. Tylenol did help but needed every few hours.

I stopped shooting on the right side of my stomach and the pain was gone after few days.

I also thought it was psych related. Who knows hmm

I'm only in week 5 and I've been experiencing a slight pain / discomfort around my liver area. It has come and gone in the past couple weeks and today I have actually been feeling real pain.

As far as I know, it's normal due to the stress' that have been put on your liver. I'm waiting for my blood work to come back.

I had some slight pain in the area where my liver peaks out from under the ribs during the first two weeks of treatment. It was not a sever pain, but I was aware of the area a lot. After a couple weeks it went away. I attributed it to the war that was being fought there. Mention these things to your doctor, but I say that feeling means something good is going on inside you.

Idon't know the answer to your question. But I do hope your pain goes away. I used to have pain inthe same place...at that time I didn't know I had Hep C. I don't have any pain there anymore...sometimes I have a heavy feeling on that side.....I don't know what that is all about.

I don't know if is it's my imagination but for the last 3 weeks or so I have been experiancing slight pain under my

right upper rib cage when i'm laying down. Also in the morning I get pain in my lower right stomach area that stays around for a couple hours. Has anyone else experianced this? Also noticed bloating in my stomach. Have been off meds for 3 weeks now due to low platlet counts .

I was on peg, riba for 19 weeks and did the encivic for 2 months. Week 12 went undetectable, waiting for my next viral load test to come back (next week), If I'm still undetectable it will be my fourth month. If a person go's 6 months udet. ,do they(doctors) consider a person healed?
