Frequently asked - Questions and Answers

I thought it might be helpful to post this info, based on the most `frequently asked questions` that crop up.  If you have any other queries, please don`t hesitate to contact one of the forum moderators, that`s Malcolm (mallani), Tim (hrsetrdr), Alan (news), or myself, Jill.

Q3 - What is the difference between `Whiteboards`, `Private Messages`, and the `Chatbox`?

A3 - The `Whiteboards` are for short messages from one member to another.   They are visible to any other member who looks at the person`s `User Details`.  `Private Messages` are just that, a way of communicating privately with other members.  The `Chatbox` can be used for short messages between members who are online.

 Just a reminder, folks.

Q1 - Where do I post?

A1 - When joining the forum all new members are welcome to introduce themselves by `Starting a New Topic` in the `New Members Area`.  Most of our members like to write a few words about themselves in their `Signature Line`, which shows at the bottom of each of their posts.  For example, it`s very useful if you can give your genotype, viral load and your age, as it helps us give you the best response.  To write in your Signature, go to your `User Details` and click on `Signature` in your `Profile` options.

Q2 - Can I edit or delete my posts?

A2 -  All members are able to edit their own posts within the first 24 hours.  After that only a moderator can do it.  Only moderators can delete posts.  Please contact one of us if you`d like a post deleted.

The `Chatbox` is not a search box but there is a `Search` button in the middle of the dark blue band at the top of the page.  Just type in the key word(s) you are looking for and a list of previous discussions will come up.

Q4 - How do I use the `Emoticons`?

A4 - To use the emoticons that are visible, just click on one and it will appear in the reply box in the same position as your cursor.  To use `More Emoticons` copy and paste the one you want into the reply box.

Q5 - Can I change the viewing order of the posts?

A5 - You can choose the order in which you wish to read a thread, i.e. newest or oldest comments first.  You can do that either in your profile settings, (see `Order of Comments`), or by going to the bottom of the thread and using the `drop down menu`.

If you have any more questions, please don`t hesitate to ask!  smile
