Not sure why he has to get blood work done every week.  I think they are monitoring his white blood count with the CBC's.

Hi Carol,

Why are you getting blood work done every week? For Geno 2 that seems excessive, and expensive. I'm surprised you have not seen a doctor for over 9 weeks- these are serious drugs, and I would have thought hubby should be seen at least every 4 weeks, if only for Medicolegal reasons. I know the system is different in the USA, but over here anyone on Peg and Riba are seen by a doctor every 2 weeks until week 12, then every 4 weeks until EOT. I know he is young and you say he has no symptoms, but medical supervision is part of treatment.

My Dr. had me come in for a visit every 4 weeks until the Incivek was done, just to have a look. There are a lot of sides that go along with treatment and not all them are physical, a lot of them are mental. Depresion is a major concern and sometimes we as patients don't recognize what all is going on with us. Sometime we can see the depression but choose to ignore and try to cover it for what we see as "the greater cause" and this can be dangerous for ourselves and those around us. Nothing about treatment is cheap and I wouldn't try to skimp on Dr visits.

I have seen my Doctor about once a month since my treatment has started. He usually has me take off my shirt to "eyeball" me for rashes (which is his responsibility instead of relying on my feedback...I'm on Incivek too). He ask me a bunch of questions and I guess he formulates some kind of idea of my treatment from them.

He has also seen me when I didn't have an appointment or I couldn't make a time he wanted because I was working out of town (at no charge).
I have seen his nurse practitioner and talked to her lots more than I have to him.

I have never been the biggest fan of American doctors, or the pharmaceutical industry in general but trust me ...you want him on your side and you want to treat him and the nurse just like anyone else you respect unless you have a very "valid" reason not to.

Just like any other profession the difference in the quality of care and service you get sometimes is directly related to the quality of respect and cooperative disposition you give back. IMHO

Hi Carolinca,

I don't know the american system. For germany I can say: the doctor will earn $90.

In Germany it's normal to have to go for an "eyeball" every second/third office visit as a private payer.

with greetings

So, my husband started treatment on 2/28/2013.  Prior to that date, we had two office visits - the first with the doctor and nurse practitioner, and the second with the nurse practitioner.

My husband gets blood work done each week, and the nurse practitioner calls the next day with the results.  So far, everything is looking good.  She left a message on the phone today

with his blood work (everything looking good), but then she also suggested that he come in for an office visit in a few weeks so that she and the doctor can "eyeball" him.  The problem is that he is having no problems,

and I don't really want to pay $90 for an office visit just so that they can"eyeball" him.  Can you guys think of any reason why he should go in???

Thanks,

Carol
