RE: Lifting weights and treatment

My husband had always gone to the gym and was very fit when he started treatment last October.  He could not exercise while on treatment almost from day 1.  He lost about 30 pounds and seriously, just getting dressed in the morning was a work out.

He finished treatment 3 weeks ago.  The first 2 weeks he was done treatment he started doing P90X (very scaled back).  This week he returned to the gym where is he doing some cardio and weights.

He still gets tired out easily but he is back to working about 12 hours a day, working out at gym and overall feeling so much more like himself.  During treatment he didn't worry too much about exercising and he did lose a lot of muscle mass but he is determined to get it back now.

i was skiing (almost each day) for first month of tx, then i just transformed in 90year old guy...i can't do stairs without getting w/o breath...i lost most of my muscle mass ;( i intend as soon as i finish with tx (from july) to get back in to shape and gain some weight back

i got mate tho, who is on 48w SoC tx (GT1), and he is at least 1hr per day lifting weights. He said he has almost no sx (he is a big guy tho into extreme sports).

I weight lifted throughout all 4 Tx attempts. Was much harder on the 1st 3 attempts with interferon. I'm not a doctor or a physiologist, but making/forcing the blood flow throughout all parts of the body (ligaments, tendons, muscles etc)  seems advantageous in trying  circulate the meds throughout  the whole body.

I would exercise as much as you are able to. It's difficult, but I was extremely slack and ended up with severe muscle wasting after 48 weeks of sitting around. Your body will tell you what your limits are. Cheers.

My Dr. recommended exercise while on treatment. I've been to exhausted to do it but he did recomend it. It's got to help with sleep, appitite and to a degree some of the depression problems that so often are tied to treatment. Just try not to over-do it and you should be fine. You might make a call to Dr or the NP to make sure though.

Any exercise that you feel up to, would be beneficial; can't see any way that weightlifting could be harmful, just don't over-do it.
