Hi, I took prilosec and now the prescription equivalent all during my clinical trial, and it was approved by everyone involved.  This was the Bristol Myers trial, so other regimens might differ.

That`s great Carol, thanks for letting us know!  Let`s hope it does the trick then!  Did he say anything about when the best time is to take it?

Thanks for the feedback.  Just spoke with doctor, and she said Prilosec OTC is totally fine.  In fact, she said that he can take it

everyday and not just for 14 days every 4 months which it says on the package.

I took Prilosec years ago, but I'm not on treatment and I wasn't then either....they also told me I would only have to take it for a short time and then I'm good......NOT.

For me the stuff only worked as long as I was taking it, as soon as I stopped...heartburn baaaaack.

I found that the foods I ate helped regulate the heartburn the best,...Foods to avoid, anything with grease or deep fried, wheat products, and sugar...it seems that natural sugar is tolerable but ANYTHING with high fructose corn syrup in it wreaks havoc with the heartburn

hope this helps, Blessings...Iriss

Hi Carol, I`m pretty sure it`s fine, there`s no indication in the peg and rib patient info that it should be avoided, and I know of at least one other member who has taken it while on tx.   Hope you hubby gets some relief, heartburn is a very unpleasant feeling.   He could double check with his doctor just for reassurance, but I can`t see any problem with it.  ~  Jill

That`s helpful, Karen, and I`m sure on a clinical trial you have to be very cautious about taking anything which might slow down or prevent complete absorption of the meds, and anything which could affect your blood results.

I think he`ll need to make sure to take it on an empty stomach, 2 or 3 hours before his ribavirin, so it doesn`t interfere with the with the absorption process.  It`s definitely worth running it by his doc, Carol, to make sure.

Only thing I can share-I am on the Gilead trial and ALL heartburn meds, even over the counter are a No-No!

Follow Jills advise-ask your dr...

My husband has bad heartburn, and so he started taking Prilosec OTC.  It involves taking 1 pill for 14 days, and then he does not have to take it anymore.  Does

anyone know if this medication is bad for people on Hep C treatment or if it is okay?

Thanks,

Carol
