Hi again, Liz, thanks for the update.   It certainly sounds like the right way to proceed for your brother, dealing with the cancer has to be the priority, and if he does test positive for Hep C he will have plenty of time to think about treating the infection once this is all over, as it`s a very slow moving disease.

You`ve done an amazing thing for your brother and I wish you all the best of luck with restarting your treatment.  Keep in touch and let us know how it goes for you both.

So I've been 20 days with no treatment and I am restarting the triple treatment tomorrow 8/9 my viral load came back but it's super low only 750. We finished up stem cell collection for my brother earlier this week unfortunately I was testing positive during the transplant so most likely my brother will now have hep c :( but all of the doctors decided that it was better for him to have the transplant and hopefully get rid of the cancer because hep c won't be as big as a battle and easier to treat. So here we go again hoping for as good as a result this 2nd time round as the first cause then I will only need to do 24 weeks.

You are doing a wonderful thing for your brother. I am sure your doctor will do all he can to get your treatment on the right path again. I will be watching for your updates.

Hi and welcome, Liz, your story is very moving and you are doing a truly inspirational thing by helping your brother in this way, and at this point of time during your own treatment.  You`ve been responding well so far and I would think you`ll still stand a very good chance of successfully completing your treatment even with this short break.

I wish you both all the very best, a loving family bond like you have with your brother is a very precious thing.

Please do stay in touch and keep us updated.  ~ Jill

I believe that Karma will shine on you and your brother. The greatness of your selfless dedication to him will bring you both through these trying times. What seems impossible now will be cause to celebrate later! Have faith and believe...smile

Yes I was on Incivek. It was a very hard decision to make I went into this only wanting to help my brother I didn't think I was going to be able to handle treatment because those first couple weeks are hard with the side effects. But after 3 weeks I got used to everything and I was just tired. I was excited that I was responding so well and figured I could handle the 24 weeks of treatment. I didn't know I was going to have to stop to help my brother until the other day. A part of me wanted to be selfish and keep on with my treatment since they told me I had a 90% chance of a cure but the other part of me knew that I could live with my hep c but we know that my brother can't live with his cancer.

Hi Liz,

I presume you,re on the Incivek triple as you were undet. at 4 weeks. Shame you have to stop, but understand the reasoning. You'll probably be OK, but it would be worth getting a VL before you re-commence. Some members have been off Rx for a period, usually due to Sx.  Best of luck, and hope the stem cells work for your brother.

I've been on triple treatment for 5 wks 2 days and I am stopping treatment for 2 wks 3 days because I am donating stem cells to my brother to hopefully get rid of his cancer. It was a battle with all the doctors on what to do but my hepatologist in the end felt it was ok for me to stop since I responded to treatment so well and my brothers matter is a pressing issue. I am just so nervous and scared about what is going to happen to me cause no one knows. They've never had a situation like mine so everything is just kind of up in the air. I tested undetected at 2 wks & again at 4 wks so that's what  my brother's oncologist was waiting for to move forward. The reason why they need me to stop the meds is because it's bringing my blood counts down and that won't work since what they need is blood. Any input is appreciated.
