Hi Mena, good to hear that Angelo`s visit to the transplant specialist went so well, and I`m sure you must be feeling a lot less stressed about it all.  Great news about his MELD score!

Just to explain about the Heptimax test, it`s a 2 part HCV RNA viral load test from Quest Diagnostics.  The second part of the test gives a more sensitive reading and can measure down to a LLOD (Lower Limit of Detection) of 5, so that a result of < 5 (less than 5) means Undetectable, which is what Angelo now has...congrats again!

I know some people here have been prescribed Zofran to help control the nausea, although I don`t have any personal experience of using it.

You are making great progress together and you will get through this!!  smile

Hello everyone, yesterday we met with the liver transplant specialist at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

His name is Dr. Gene IM and we also spoke to PA Cynthia Byrne. Both were very nice and knowledgeble.

Angelo's Hepatologist had forwarded to him all the lab results so that he could be familiar with his condition.

The first thing they both said was " At this time Your MELD score is too low to qualify for a Transplant"!

The abdominal swelling and pains that have been keeping Angelo up during the night, are from taking Lactulose late a night. Too much gas in his belly!

He is really confident that with the help of the procrit to keep the hemoglobin levels steady, Angelo will uccessfully finish his treatment.

When we mentioned the nausea that Angelo is still feeling from time to time, he prescribed Zofran as needed.

Anyone ever used it successfully?

He also wants lab work done so he gave us a long list including V/L  real time PCR

HEPTMAX (R) HCV RNA   ( anyone knows what this tells?)

I also asked him to check the VIT B12 and VIT D levels.

I hope all the results are good.

Still waiting for our Hepa to call with the results of the V/L at 6 wks.

Mena
