Really sorry to hear this, Mena, and I`m so glad you had your daughter with you for moral support.  Actually, I`m not surprised Angelo has had to stop treatment either, especially when you mentioned the hepatic encephalopathy he`d been diagnosed with as well as the other severe side effects.  I`m sure this is the right thing to do, even though it must seem like such a disappointment to you both right now.

You have been an amazing support to Angelo and have coped with it all so well, and I wish you both all the very best for the future.  Look after each other and stay strong, better days will come.

Do stay in touch, you`ll always be welcome here! x

Hi Mena,

I'm sorry but not surprised that Angelo had to stop treatment. He obviously has cirrhosis . Don't worry, new treatment will become available, and as he has had an antiprotease, he will need something like the Gilead combination.  He shouldn't have any treatment with Interferon or Ribavirin because of his low platelets. Hope he recovers quickly, and you're a wonderful wife to support him through all this. Please keep us posted and best wishes to you both. Cheers.

Hi Mena, first thing would you give my best to Angelo please? You have both been through a battle and we all know it hasn't been easy for any of you. I wondered a long time ago if these meds weren't too much for him to handle. He seemingly experienced the worst of the worst side effects. I wish I could give you a hug and tell you of the respect I have for you. You have proven your commitment and marriage oath to him and to God many times over. You should be proud of your efforts, both of you should be. God works in many ways and He also provides us with the good sense to know when it's time to try another course of treatment. It looks to me like you made the right choice for many reasons. There are many new drugs on the horizon and if the comments left here are any indication, it won't be long and there are few if any side effects. Considering how much longer Angelo had to go, stopping this poisonous therapy now may well be the best choice you could have made! Time for recovery and taking it easy! Be well friends and best of luck smile

We had an appointment to go see Angelo's Hepatologist  today, and for some reason I had a very uneasy feeling about it all day!

Usually our daughter comes with us, but for today I had  told her I could handle it on my own.

Well as it was getting closer to the appointment time, my uneasiness got the better of me. So I called her at work and asked her to come with us.

Thank God she did!  When the doctor examined him he was very concerned about the way his belly was so bloated. He gained 19 lbs. in one month. I told   him that the specialist at MT. Sinai in NYC said that it was probably due to excess gas from the Lactulose he's taking.

That is not what the HEPA thought, he ordered a sonogram to confirm Ascites and another full blood work up.

He said, although the treatment did work as far as getting the virus to be UND, he does not feel that Angelo will be able to go through the additional

40 wks till end of treatment.  There would be too many other things that could happen that could jeopardize his life.

The Hepa was very happy with the fact that we know he is NOT a "NON RESPONDER" and that hopefully he will hang in there till the new treatment becomes available.

His MELD score is 13 and just to get on a transplant  list it needs to be at least 15 and to actually get a liver the score should be between 26 -28!

I know that many times our prayers may seem not to have been answered,  but I strongly believe that GOD knows what is best for each one of us , and for Angelo this treatmentto the end,  was NOT!

The Hepa said that Angelo should start feeling much better as all the meds leave his system. His virus will come back but it could take a while since it is starting from 00.

Thank you so much for everyones kind words of support, We really appreciate it.

Mena
