tig,

sorry to hear that you had to pay for meds you have to discard. i take 1ml under skin each week of procrit not your meds. also i use my upper arms w/ the procrit and thighs for the pegasys

also did you switch drs?  i did 2wks ago and yesterday went for outpatient w/2 bags of blood. just earlier today old doc calls to let me know my hemo was 7.0 last friday. at this point in my treatment i'd believe that most of these drs. and pharm cos. are just in it for the money.

     be well.

Hey Tig... I had to take nuepogen as well... (For more info look up my old posts) and I also recieved four syringes prefilled but had to take the whole shot each time...
Some seem to have a mild reaction (i.e.; soreness) to it. I was not one of those lucky peeps.
For myself; I ended up having to make sure the majority of my day was cleared of major things to do the day after my shot as I felt like I had been hit by a plow truck. It would get better as the days between shots progressed. (I had to take it for more than a couple of weeks 2x a week then 1x a week and then down to once every two weeks) I found that taking before bed was best for me as when it started to hit; if I wasn't asleep it was hard to fall asleep once the aches set in.
I hope you won't have to take it for long and hope your sides are of the mild sort!

Hi Tig,

Good luck with the shots. You may need some procrit as well if the Hb keeps dropping. Cheers.

Received the Neupogen via FedEx today. It came in 4 pre-filled syringes, each with 300 mg of medication per unit. I was left scratching my head in dismay because it said specifically on the package and order that my dose is 150 mg/weekly. I find it to be an incredible waste of medication and money because those orders state clearly that I am to DISCARD 50% of the medication before administering it! I spoke to a pharmacy and was told that this is a very expensive drug and instead of pre-measured units, it comes as pre-filled instead and the patient measures the actual dose! So I pay for 100% and have to throw away half of it! There seems that there is something very wrong with that!

The injection went without incident but an hour later and it feels like I've been kicked by a mule in that thigh! I hope it works as desired, especially at the price and waste involved in its  administration. Big Pharm is skipping all the way to the bank no

Thank you Sandy! I appreciate the helpful tips. I was starting to wonder if I wasn't getting too anemic. I've noticed a large increase in fatigue and muscle cramping lately. My CBC and body weight have been in steady decline, so this doesn't come as a big surprise. At least I know this treatment is doing something, even if I don't like it, lol!!

tig,

here's what i do to prevent any/all sx. 1st warm the solution you'll be injecting for it's quite thick. this will prevent pain & bruising. also i inject extremely slow and release even slower  again to prevent sx. finally i ice for 2 hours and pop 2 tylenols. i have procrit w/ a vial and needle,it's not a self injectable. hope this helps.

hang in there this will make you stronger and maybe you can walk cane free. lately my cane has become a new addition to my vampire wardrobe. be well.

Hi Tig, don't worry about it. There"s  nothing to it. But a little aches.

I had no sting. It works really good and fast. I think i took 2 shots a week. I had a whole bunch left at EOT and gave it to the docs office for those who didn't have insurance. They were very thankful because it is a expensive drug. Just have to get the blood tests every week or 2. Hang in there bud.

I just got a phone call from my hepa's office. My CBC has dropped low enough that he has ordered my specialty pharmacy to overnight ship me the Neupogen injectable. I'm not sure if it will be once or twice a week. But most certainly will be until my WBC comes up. I have read that Neupogen stings on injection and causes a lot of muscle soreness. Are there any suggestions that might make this easier to tolerate?
