Same thing happen to me. I use anti fungal cream now to keep the sides of my mouth from looking like the Joker. I cleans it up but it always comes back in 2 or 3 days. Clotrimaderm/1% hydrem 1:1 twice a day. I also get crusty things happening on my ears and they take for ever to clean up. They also gave me a few other things to get control of it all. Seems the worst is during the first 1 weeks. Good luck with it and always have a bottle of water with you at all times for the consent dry mouth with the Victralas. Good luck to you.

I find that pineapple is very good for mouth sores and the healing process.

Hi Sandy! Yes, I suffered with those same mouth sores and they started the first week of treatment (before the Victrelis) and lasted for weeks. I'm into my 19th week now and am glad to say they're gone. They tend to come and go for many of us. My doctor gave me a prescription for a mouthwash too. We here on the forum refer to it as "magic mouthwash". Mine contained Lidocaine, Nystatin and Benadryl. They diagnosed it in the beginning as "Thrush". It's considered a type of yeast infection of the mucus membrane. As he knows it's painful and will continue until he gets a handle on it. It's caused by these medications we're on and may come and go though treatment. Make sure the doctor is advised about it frequently if it keeps bothering him. He may need something in addition to the plain lidocaine mouth rinse. Ask about getting a Rx for Magic mouthwash. It fixed me up in a few days! Also stay away from sugary food and drinks, no acidic drinks like orange juice. Even tomato juice can make it worse for some. After eating or drinking it's a good idea to rinse with lukewarm salt water and spit it out. I keep a glass of cold salt water in the fridge and in between the mouthwash I use it. That helps to refresh your mouth a lot! Make sure he gets as soft a toothbrush as you can find and try to brush at least three times a day, gently. Interferon is hard on your teeth and causes cavities. Maintain good dental care!!! Also remember to drink lots and lots of water, that's very important throughout treatment!

Try these tips and if you have any questions, please ask any of us. Best of luck! It will get better, remember that smile

Hello again!

My husband just started taking Victrilis after the four week lead in with Interferon/Riba.  He has developed sores in his mouth that are getting pretty uncomfortable.  The Dr. has prescribed a Lidocaine rinse that is really thick and gross.  But it does work, just tastes terrible.  Needless to say he is not too interested in eating or drinking-a must with the treatment and it doesn't help that he's diabetic.

This is where I always go for great advice.  Anyone else managed this?  Any tricks to this problem?

Thanks!

Sandy
