It unfortunately may be a result of that "stigma" we so often discuss. When people aren't aware of the route or means of transmission, they often fall prey to the hype of the misinformed.

Oh we call them hairdressers that do your hair. A beautician does skin care etc. We all have the odd skin imperfection and can have a little blood when being scrubbed and polished. She just bleaches the sink for the safety of other people after me, and no she is not worried or bothered I have this, I am just another customer. )

Just curious, why would your beautician bleach the sink after washing your hair?

A Hepatologist only treats patient with liver disease.

A Gastroenterologist mainly treats the digestive system (oesophagus, stomach, small and large bowel). Some gastroenterologists also treat the organs of digestion (liver, pancreas, spleen).

A Gastro is fine, provided he/she is up to date, and has experience treating HepC and using the anti-viral drugs.  Hepatologists are more likely to read journals and attend conferences on HepC.

What's a hepatologist and how different are they compared to a gastroentrologist? A see a gastro and wonder if I should be looking for something different?

I see a Infectious Disease specialiast, she deals with mono and co-infected Hep patients. Of course she doesn't specialise in just Hep, she has H.I.V and all manor of infectious diseased patients. I feel so comfortable with her. She has no problem with examining or staying over time for questions.

I have a beautician that doesn't bat an eyelid, she just makes sure her sink is bleached after me just to be precautious. My GP and nurse are no different , they just ask me how I'm coping or doing. I think people are far less bothered in this country.

I would change Doctor too, you are human and have needs as a patient. If a Doctor cannot abide by his hippocratic oath to help and to heal, then they should become dustmen where they are not surrounded by disease that disgusts them!

consider yourself fortunate to have discovered this earlier rather than later in your treatment! i strongly recommend you search for a new dr unless you're able to resolve issues.

i switched dr. 2 and 1/2 months into my therapy and couldn't be happier. once it took me 2 faxes and 7 phone calls to have them call in an rx for procrit!

be well and keep us posted.

I agree, a new doctor is in order. Be sure you're seeing a Hepatologist if possible and certainly no less than a board certified Gastroenterologist with experience treating HCV. You shouldn't leave your doctor's office feeling as you do. You should have complete faith in them and they most certainly should be willing to listen to every single question and complaint you have. They shouldn't be unwilling to hear your suggestions and questions that result from your own research. I have taken many questions to my doctor after reading things here, as well as suggestions provided by people here. We have several medical professionals that are members here. Very qualified and intelligent people and we're all very fortunate to have them available. Those questions to my doctor have made positive differences in my current course of treatment. I wouldn't stop until you find a doctor that you trust and are confident in. Good luck!

Started INTF/RIBO 6 weeks ago.  Doctor visit yesterday did not go well.  No encouragement, only negativity and interrupted while trying to discuss side effects and threatened to stop treatment because of WBC.  It only dropped to 3.1.  Not thinking that is to bad. Mistakenly told me they do not check viral load until 3 months when I knew it was checked 1.5 weeks ago. I just felt like a dog and rushed out of the office.  I am now doing some research to find another doctor, but do not want to interrupt my treatments.  I have Geno 3A which is only a 24 week treatment.  Not sure what to do.  Any feedback?
