I would fight to maintain your Riba dose at full level too. There are other methods of increasing Hgb besides dose reductions. Procrit works very well and I would be absolutely sure your doctor knows you're aware of that possibility. Any reduction in your Riba dose also reduces its effectiveness. That should be the last choice IMO. Stick to your guns!

Some Doctors are numbers only others will give you some lead if they see your a fighter. Talk to your Doc about the procrit. It will tell her you did some home work. If your Docs the kind that will give you some slack remember this. Your nurse will be observing you along with your Doctor. How your dressed how you talk and how you carry your self can make a big difference. Don't drag your self in the door, walk in and show a lot of confidence this will be noticed. I storm my Docs and flirt with all the nurses, jump up and open the door for wheel chair people or ladies with Kids. I haven't been over 10 my whole tx. After 3 transfusions my Doc is talking about a riba reduction. He said 600 from 1200. I told him lets try 800. He smiled and said stay on 1200 for another week and we'll see.

Your starting to sound like fighter Hilary. You will be able to tell what your hb is by how you feel. In the end go by that and trust your Doctor if she says you need to reduce the riba then let her do it. Stay safe.

Best of luck

congrats on results! Fight as mush as u can to stay on full dose. It's obvious that dose reduction can influence SVR chance. I would go with Procrit shots if offered by your doc. Stay strong!

best

Hi Hilary, well sometimes doctors prescribe Procrit when someone`s Hb level falls below 10.  It works by stimulating the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells and comes in the form of an injection.  On the other hand your doctor might want to reduce your riba dose for a while until your level has picked up.  Probably best to talk it over with her and see how she plans to manage your anemia.  Ideally you won`t have to reduce your dose.

Best of luck, let us know how it goes.  Try not to worry,  you`re doing very well!  smile

Kinda worried by my results today- here's another chart that shows it weekly- and the new doc had Said if the hemoglobin had dropped under 10.0 she would want to drop the dose of ribo.. So is there anything else that I can do or is that pretty much what my option is?

Alright!!! undetected and a new Doc. Some times things go right. I can remember when my kids were your age (pinches your cheek). You hit a stop light on the road of life, your blessed that it was red. No matter how hard tx gets its only a shadow of what was waiting for you if you didn't turn off the road you were on. Second chances rock! Your 27 whats 28 weeks, you will do it.

Best wishes.

That`s great news, Hillary, you must be so pleased and relieved to know you`re responding so well to the victrelis tx!  It`s a tough regime to follow but getting this result shows that it`s all so worthwhile.

Well yes, you can find stories out there of people who skip doses or stop tx once they`ve reached UND status...but anyone who does that is just not taking their tx seriously and failing to understand the importance of completing the course, unless they are forced to stop for some reason, for example because their side effects become intolerable.

Keep doing what you are doing, your blood results are looking good, especially your liver enzymes, and all the best of luck with the rest of your treatment..your chances of SVR are excellent!  I`m so glad you found the energy to find a better doctor, it was well worth the effort for your peace of mind!  smile  Keep us posted!

Hi Hillary,

Congrats on the 8 week Undetected!  That's a big one for Victrelis.  Patients rarely relapse after an RVR, and I would put your chances of SVR at higher than 90%. The pill burden of Victrelis is high, so make sure you don't miss any doses and keep them close to 8 hours apart.

Glad you've seen a more experienced doctor. It's normal to feel tired with a Hb of 10.9.  It shows the Riba is working, and I hope you don't need to reduce the dose.

Your blood work is excellent. Note how the AST and ALT are now normal, which is a sure sign there's not much inflammation in your liver now. Your platelets have dropped but are still normal. Another one to watch is the Abs. Neutrophils. These are OK at 1.4. They can drop as low as 0.5 without any drama. Finally, watch your glucose. This was elevated but is now normal.  Rx can cause elevated glucose, so give sweets and sugar a miss. Keep up the good work. Another 20 weeks and this will all be over. Cheers.

Crazy how things just end up working out sometimes... I had all this drama and anxiety and stress about my Dr making me go on treatment for too long.. I was waiting for these results and had an apt lined up with my PC doc to see about helping me find or get referred to a new doc that wouldn't disrupt my treatment- so then, last week tx dr office called and said my usual doc had a medical emergency and I had to see another dr within her office- so I thought well I'll see what this dr says and if I don't like it see my PC and go from there. Ok so the new doctor today was so amazing and story turns out my dr is pregnant not sure how far along bc I hardly could even tell and she's 35- was having contractions last week. So new news is that she may not come back BUT the dr I saw today showed me my viral load is now completely UNDETECTED! And I didn't even have to ask she knew and told me my tx will be for just the 28 total weeks- that's the plan and were sticking to it! As loNG as I'm still undetected at 12 weeks- she says it rarely changes and is detected again- Sometimes people think that the virus is already takin out and may miss a dose or just not take as much care as they did to get to this point? Is this true or another matter of personal opinion?! I'm gonna load my lab work by weekly comparison too and this dr finally gave me an answer of what to look for- if hemoglobin drops under 10.0 we'll adjust the ribo. I'm so over the moon- this dr is older and seems like she's just worked with so many more patients. I hardly had the energy to look for a new doc but knew I would if I had too- i had a great day today and felt so much relief that things just worked out for me with hardly any effort! Ha I'm pretty lazy but this made me happy! And UNDETECTED again- I just wanna type it in all caps bc it's just feels good to know that this crazy stuff I do every day to myself is working. Seemed like I was getting real down feeling like my life consisted of eating food I could hardly stomach, drowning in water, and non stop alarms and pills.. I'm being a little dramatic but weekends are rough. I've broken down a little but the reassure that it's worth it helps get a pep in my heart- maybe not my step bc I hardly have the energy ;)  so anyone know the statisic of how much that undetected actually changes at 12 weeks?! I know a woman on this forum had to stop the same tx I'm on now bc her numbers werent good but I don't remember if she reached und? I can't remember her name :(  -And doc said my change of cure jumped up to close to 90% now?!   input is loved and appreciated! Hope you all feel well!
