TX so far 16 weeks

I started my tx then stopped for about a month waiting for the incivek. If I count those weeks I'm at about 25 or so (I didn't save those darts). I'm kind of glad I'm doing the full 48 weeks in a way, at least I won't have to wonder if I borked my tx by only doing 24 weeks. This way I can say I did all I could. After three transfusions and about 10+ shots of procrit my hb seems to have evened out. After I started the Tai Chi I only dropped .1 a week instead of 1. Tues. last week my hb went up from 8.6 to 9.0 instead of going down. I'm still on the full dose of riba. They didn't have my procrit there so I had to wait. They called me Fri. and asked me to come in. I told them I would wait until my app. the following Tues. When I went in my hb held at 9.0.  As far as the Tai Chi goes I never get out of breath while I practice.  There is breathing that goes along with the forms. I live across the street form a park with a lake. I go there watch the trees in the wind and the way the water flows with out stopping. I loose myself and become one with the wind and the water. I bought a dvd by Chris Pei. After seeing it on youtube I decided to buy it. Here is a link to the youtube vid in case anyone wants to try it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9FkTb-3uaM   Procrit or the Tai Chi or the combo of them, some thing seems to be working

at 3:39:00 in the vid he does all the forms its worth a watch.

Best wishes to all!

Hey Scruffy

Good to hear you are getting along, it's amazing how attention to a body mind control concept can return results. Thanks for relating your experiences we need more like that .

Hope all goes well in the future and you achieve SVR

Matt

I don't know how you found the strength to perform that kind of work out. I was so tired that waking up was hard, staying awake was difficult and caring about exercise was impossible! Due to the anemia, just standing up caused terrible vertigo. That's what I was told anyway. I would've enjoyed the extra activity but couldn't do it. I'm so glad that there are some of you that are able to stay physically active, strength and endurance training, etc. I tried to walk as often as possible, but the distances were relatively short and close to home. For quite awhile I relied on a cane to walk, fortunately that isn't necessary now. Whatever you can do to maintain your strength and stamina is vitally important during treatment. What you can do now will really benefit you following treatment. Good luck my friends and keep up the good (hard) work!

scruffy,

congrats on your und so early on & your fighting spirit despite the anemia!!!!

i totally agree w/ you on a body in motion stays in motion. during my tx i suffered from the low hemoglobin as well. working out not only energized me but allowed me to gain empowerment over my sluggishness & created a calmness. i totally get how you're able to do tai-chi w/ low cbcs. also if i'm not mistaken it brings more oxygen to our anemic red blood cells. that's a good thing!

Hey Scruffy, I have to agree with Malcolm regarding your Tai Chi. How do you find the energy? That is quite impressive Brother and more power to you! Just be careful and don't overdue. Things are still not what they were before Tx started, no matter what you're doing. My wife tried to do some dumbbell work with light weights and still managed to cause some nerve impingement problems. Everything takes time. Good luck with the next half of your journey. Keep us in the loop!

Hi Scruffy,

Good to hear from you.  I'm a bit lost about where you are in Rx as you had a leadin then had to wait for the Incivek.  My guess is you're at about 22 weeks, and should have finished the Incivek by now. Anyway, it sounds as though you're doing well, and have a great attitude. Those Undetected's help keep the spirits up. I'm impressed you can manage Tai Chi with those Hb levels!  Best of luck. Cheers.

I started out on the dbl drug tx 48 weeks. After 4 weeks my VL went from 3m to 280k. They told me to take a break while they see if they could get me the third med. Judging by the amount of med left on the script looks like it was 6 weeks. With the third med I was undetectable at 4 weeks and again at 12 weeks <5. Today my hept Doc said I was doing good and asked me how many weeks I had left. I lowered my head a little and told him I had 12 weeks of med and another 12 to be delivered. Seeing the way I didn't respond that well on the dbl I said guess I'm in this for another 24 weeks even though I was undetectable at 4 weeks. He said we're in this for the win. On the good side 4 weeks ago I had to get blood 7.2, got two units. The following week it was 8.9 next week 8.6 this week 8.5 anemia is getting better. I'm still on the full dose of riba. I also started to practice Tai Chi. So far I've memorized the first two forms. 24 weeks of tx left I should be able to memorize maybe 15 of the 24 beginning forms. Maybe I'll master a few in the next 5 years lol. IMO it great practice for mind and body. My energy has gone up 50%. (note I'm giving the Tai Chi credit for the energy boost and not the procrit..some times I like the way the riba makes me think)

Best wishes for all
