about 75% fell out total and it started coming out alot about 11 weeks. when i stood in the sun you could see the outline of my scalp clearly. lots of it around my hair line, the back and top. it happened about the same time as my last tx in 2003.

i was 40 then and my ego took a big blow about it, but this time around my attitude it is what it is. if i smile big enough folks will look at my teeth instead.

I'm a fuzzy head now 13 weeks post tx.

it's growing in white and it's striking. i wore it in a pony tail until it turned into a rats tail. i trimmed the rats tail into a pig tail. lol.

as long as i wear it tied back the thinning is hardly noticeable.

during tx i looked scary when my hair was thin and face was all swelled up  . that was about the worst of it.

@tig - i started tx at 146 and by eot i was 126. i'm down to 118 now and feeling comfortable. i'm 5 feet so that's a healthier weight.

I want to add an additional comment to this conversation. It has been a month since my last post to this thread and I've noticed a quick change in my hair growth. My hair didn't fall out in patches, like several here described. Normally my hair is real thick and treatment noticeably thinned it out. My beard also changed from bushy to coarse and straight. All of that seems to be in a correction mode and looks like it will be closer to what it was, instead of what it had become. At least something is returning to normal!!  wink

I lost a lot of hair in the beginning, i would say 2nd/3rd month was bad. I am still leaving a trail of hair..but its not as bad. I do my best to treat and condition it to keep it as healthy as i can. I guess as long as am on treatment, i will continue to loose some. I seem to loose most of my front hair, so i just braid some loose plaits and pull a cute beanie on. Thank the Lord for winter and hats ! i don't have to worry about my hair for now.

When I was on interferon in 1999 I lost all of my hair.

At first I wore a wig but then I just wore a scarf on my head or went bald around my family and friends.

But I did not realize how cold a bald head was until this happenned.

When my hair grew back it come back in very pretty and curlier than usual.

I also lost a lot of hair during treatment. I noticed it was happening around week 8 and it increased throughout Tx. I would say that a good estimate would be 40-50%. One additional note is that I've always had a full beard and I really lost my facial hair fast. For my family, they thought that my facial hair loss and my complete loss of skin color (very pale) made me look the worst during Tx.

I'm also curious about the weight loss people experienced during Tx? I weighed myself at the start of treatment: 254 lbs and again at the end of treatment: 200 lbs. A 54 lb loss over 28 weeks. I needed to lose weight but that was a harsh weight loss program! I didnt do anything other than try to stay active, which amounted to short walks throughout Tx. I had to eat at least 3 times per day because Victrelis required it. I never ate a lot but enough, plus I would try to eat ice cream daily for the caloric increase (and because I love it, lol!) What about the rest of you?

I have noticed hair loss at an alarming rate.  I feel like I have lost about  35-50% of my hair based on how it feels when I wash it.  Most in one area but evenly throughout the rest of my head.

sarah,

i concur w/ everyone about noticing lots of shedding hair by 3 month mark. at 1st i believed i would just shave it all off & get a wig, even posted a comment about it. well it got a lot worse w/ the itching & rash.i guess i lost about 1/3 of my hair, but this is my 2nd round of treatment. my hair never fully recovered the 1st time for baldness runs on my mom's side. at 1st i went to dermo & used topicort which was too strong for me. about a month ago i got a free consult from a specialist who only deals w/ chemo, aids, and hcv patients . here's what he recommended & it worked!!!!! twice a week do a regimen of the following;clarifying shampoo to exfoliate dead skin, selson blue or tea tree oil shampoo and a lavender mint moisturizing conditioner. in addition cut off all split ends. now voila i feel pretty again !!!!! in my honest opinion if we shave our heads the itchy rash doesn't disappear and a wig will only make our scalps hotter.

keep us posted you may come up w/ a better solution. remember it's all worth it to be hcv free.

I guess I've lost about half of what I started with. I have always kept my hair cut short in a flat top, so I went from looking like a nice bushy horsehair brush to a prickly wire pet slicker! I had several stitches in my scalp growing up and now you can see every one of them! I starting noticing the loss around week 10. At week 28 I've still got enough that most don't see it, but as Newmex said, we probably notice it more because we stand in front of the mirror and examine it all the time!

hi there, i started losing my hair after about the 11th week into it. i would stand over the loo every morning and brush handfuls out. it was all over the house.

its very thin now and hasn't started growing back yet. i've tried to keep it long and wear it back in a ponytail, but i see i'll need to get whats left of the long strands cut this week. The pony tail is now a rats tail. smile i tried on wigs but they looked really goofy in my op. they were tight also on my sensitive head.

i have great faith it will grow back in time.

happy thanksgiving all!

Thanks for all the feedback.  Yes, I was hoping it would just thin out, but have seen people post that around week 23/24 they had to wear a wig, so I was just wondering if I had that to look forward to, also.  Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!!......

Hi Sarah,

Hair loss is common, but you don't end up with bald patches. Usually you notice more hair in the shower or comb amd it never becomes extreme. Don't worry, it grows back rapidly a few weeks after finishing the Riba. Cheers.

Sarah, I was on the same treatment back in 2008, and to the best of my memory I probably lost a third to half of my hair.Wasnt really obvious to others but was to me as I handled it. now have been back on if for 4 weeks and am beginning to notice it is thinning I am on the peg riba then go to incivic also for 12 week, then back to peg and riba to finish out 48 weeks. my kids are asking what I need for Christmas, think I will tell them Rogaine and preparation H. And your hair is growing back as it falls out so its really prob not that bad ,just learn to laugh with it.

Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

News Flash- Wife said my hair was already thinning and to her she cant tell any difference. haha she said she has noticed it since well before I went on the treatment but just didn't want to tell me. Maybe I am just looking more now.

I do have a question.....I am at dart 11 of 24 on Friday. My hair has thinned out some and have been losing more hair than usual, but I had a thyroid issue before tx so I am use to shedding. Do most people lose all their hair on Inter/Rib tx? I guess I have always figured that if it gets to thin and if I am showing bald spots, I will just shave and get a wig. Any and all personal experiences would be appreciated. I am not a vane person, in fact a wig would actually save me time in the morning before worK.  biggrin
