Hello PL and Hubby

Your in good shape for a fall 2014 run at vanquishing the dragon. You are doing the right thing gaining all the knowledge you can beforehand, it will serve you well in choosing the treatment and the timing, Choosing the right time of year can make it easier to handle the mental part of the treatment. If your doing 12 weeks you can find a better window, 6 months is harder but doable.

Hoping everything works out

Thanks Malcolm, I remember the Dr. saying as far as I'm concerned we could wait till around Nov. of this year to start treatment.  My husband, on the other hand, is going to be treated right away..We're just waiting for his genotype.  We both started watching what we eat, well, we're trying anyways.  Thanks for the encouragement, Malcolm, and everyone else..

Hi pl1952,

Geno 1b is a good one to have. As you are F0-2, I'd be happy to wait for the Sovaldi/Ledipasvir combination pill, likely to be approved later this year.  You probably won't need Riba, and may be able to get away with 12 weeks of treatment.  Don't rush in- there's no hurry.  Get yourself fit, and watch your diet.  Cheers.

Honestly, a fraction is all you need, so long as it's the right fraction. Do like I do, make a written list of things you want to know and take it to your appointments. Drive 'em crazy with your questions. I get a perverse satisfaction from keeping them longer than the time they had me slotted for. But that's just me....  wink

Hi Wayne, I've been reading voraciously about it...It would really help if I could retain just a fraction of what I read. LOL.  Thanks for the link..going to check it out now!

Hi there,

Glad things are moving along for you.  That is a quite treatable genotype.  Good readiing about the new treatment guidelines can be found here:  http://hcvguidelines.org/full-report/initial-treatment-hcv-infection-patients-starting-treatment

Might as well go into your future appointments armed with as much information as possible. smile

Thank you hrsetrdr!  Actually, I was terrified to deal with this disease, that I've had for probably 30 years or longer, but my attitude changed little by little after I found this forum and reading the experiences here....and decided the time is right to do something about it.  I'm definitely hanging here!  :)

Hi, I'm glad that you have such a great outlook on beginning treatment- that's a very good place to be. Please consider this forum your 'hangout' for support while on treatment/after treatment and beyond.

Hi all, just signed into the hospital portal and saw that my genotype is 1b.  April I'm scheduled for an ultrasound, and then I guess treatment will be discussed with me.  I'm looking forward to starting treatment and I feel positive, thanks to all of you guys who post, give your experience, and your advice and suggestions.  I'm so happy I found this forum!
