Thanks Scruffy, I have plenty to keep busy with, and everyone knows so is not a secret. Hahaha even my neighbours know and will look out for me. I intend to use this time creatively, I am grateful really to be able to rid this and get on with life. Excited for the new meds for others though, everyone deserves a Hep C free future! :D

Lisa

After the first week you won't be scared. Being scared is normal but don't let it get to you.

Fear + a vivid imagination + ribaviran isn't a great combo. Being for warned is for armed. Time to start a new or pick back up an old hobby. Plan on getting some out door time also.

best wishes for you.

Just completed 6 months Interf/Riba....it wasn't fun, but I was able to work 5 days a week (as an IE Tech) for most of the 6 months and time really went fast.  The side effects were manageable.

3 wks post treatment, I am gaining more energy and life is good.

Good luck.  You will do great.  biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Don't be scared. The apprehension is way worse than the actual event. I take my shot on Saturday nights, take a Tylenol and go to bed. When I wake up, I'm tired and low energy, but it's not anything I can't handle. And I've only missed one day of work, and that was from the side effects of something totally unrelated to the treatment. It's not as bad as you think it will be. Just plan on a relaxing day the day after your shot, and you'll come to look forward to a day of healing and no stress. Great to have a supportive husband, that really helps too! And we will all be here to help with any questions should they arise once you start! You've got this!

You're funny Scruffy you make me smile! :D

I am frightened to be honest, in fact really scared, but I have a vivid imagination and it is playing off worse case senarios. It does give me hope you are both coping, and is stopping me from quitting before I start, very important. Let the games begin :P

In a twist of events, my Husbands, bosses dad, had Hep C from a blood transfusion at the time when there was no cure, and died of cancer never treating it. Low and behold every Friday Hubby has off to sit with me through it. So there is really understanding behind us in corners we least expected, somehow it is falling into place. We told all the family and friends that didn't know and I have full support, my mother and father in law were very upset I knew for a year and never told them, but you know didn't want them to worry.

I'm thinking of calling my nurse tomorrow to try the old anti-depressant drugs, not for depression but for the fear, tonight I was talking myself out of it because I'm scared of the unknown. Thank god my husband is the type of rational person that stated, I have to try to know, not run at the first hurdle. :D

Anyway, feeling stuffed :P

Sending you both a hug and thanks for calming my silly brain :p x

PS: That spa sounds great, and the hot chocolate, you made me smile, enjoy, you deserve it! :D

I have one more dose of incevik... (the one I forgot on brain fog RIBA rage day), then it's on to double trouble. It will be so nice to not have to get up early after shot night (Saturday nights all right for fighting with me) and choke down a fatty breakfast. I am going to sleep in.... Yippee!!!!

My taste buds have changed. I have no interest in lunch so usually have a meal replacement shake. Breakfast is ok, and dinner I eat a full meal. I crave weird things that I didn't use to. I started liking bland things, but as the weeks progressed I started liking weird flavored things like BBQ corn chips and hot chocolate... Can't get enough hot chocolate and for any Canadians out there, it's Roll Up The Rim To Win time, so I've switched my medium with one cream for a hot chocolate addiction.

Totally doable and even though I don't feel good, I'm gratefull to be treating, for the success I've had so far, and the fact that I'm still doing most of the things I was doing before (working, volunteering and family time). Tomorrow morning I'm treating myself to my favorite spa for a 12 week celebratory shampoo, cut and style... Maybe some highlights! And the waiting for the 12 week results begins .....

Hi Lisa,

Metallic taste will likely be part of the menu, lol! I did indeed notice a distinct change in flavors and some favorites had changes in taste that were just plain different. What was once mildly spicy, turned bitter and scorching hot. I was amazed at some of the changes. I ended up settling on fairly mild and or bland foods. The robust flavors were most affected, so your menu will need some adjustments. But it's all easy enough to handle and certainly worth the extra effort. Your husband may want to have a few meals ready of his own. Time will tell and it's something that you'll adjust to pretty fast. Good luck, let the healing begin!

Hey all,

I start now next Friday at 11 a.m, there was too short notice to arrange everything on their side. Thank you everyone for the good wishes, it is good to know others are in the same boat. I was disappointed I have to wait another week! :/

Hey Gracie, indeed  that would be nice, I feel at ease that I can come here and people understand what is happening and are going through it all at the same time. I hope you're doing ok currently?

Indeed I have Sovaldi envy lol......It is delayed through the channels in Europe and not readily available yet, but I already waited a year, and I will have 6 months regardless of which drugs are used. Riba will be on the menu regardless so nom nom, time to butter that bread and eat it!

Off out for dinner with my husband this evening to eat lots of scrummy food as I suspect metal taste will be on the menu very soon.

Have a lovely weekend you lovely people! x

Hey Loopy

Congrats on starting your treatment, this is a very exciting time and it should go well. SOC has very good SVR rates with Geno 3s. We look forward to your interaction with others on the forum. Their will be a lot more SOC members coming on board in the coming months so the support should be fine. Love to hear from you on your journey.

I hear your sovaldi envy. I also was unable to get it. My hepologist said it could take two years to be available here, although I think it will arrive sooner. My last hep c test was negative thanks to the old soc, and that feeling is an amazing one. The side effects are annoying, but doable. I will be joining you in the double combo treatment after one more day plus one dose of incevik. The worst side effects I have had was also the best one, anemia... As that means the treatment was working. We can compare notes and give each other advice as I will be doing the peg/RIBA for 36 more weeks, 12 past you! Here's to SVR to all of us old SOC warriors.

Hi Loopy,

Peg/Riba have been doing wonders for Geno 3 for many years, so best of luck. Outside the USA, Sovaldi is very difficult to access. I look forward to your first Undetected. Cheers.

Thank you everyone,

Indeed i am ready for this challenge and ready to say goodbye to these viruses. Yes, we cannot knock old treatments as they have a place too. As my doctor said, new treatments will offer their own set of problems, at least we know what to expect and I may be lucky and have a good battle with minimal side-effects. If not, well I know I have you guys to moan too hehehe.

It is really a lift of my shoulders the waiting game is over, and my partner will do the nasty needle bit so I can get off the hook off being scared to look :P

I just gave blood for my baseline viral load, so looking forward to seeing that disappear to UND!

It has been a pleasure to be there for you Tig, you all help everyone by sharing things so we can know what to expect and at least we know we are not alone!

I am on the peg and Riba route, as a G3 it is standard 6 month unless I'm blessed as a fast responder...

See you Friday guys, have to arrange teeth cleaning and things on the swift.

Hugs to everyone x

Hi Liza, good to hear from you again!  Yes it is a shame you can`t get Sovaldi but I can understand that you want to get on with treatment now and get it done with, and then you can start making your plans for the future.  ASAT (AST) levels do fluctuate quite a lot over time anyway and once you start your treatment they will soon start to drop.

So as you have genotype 3 you`ll be doing 24 weeks with peg/riba, which is what I did too, except that you`re a lot younger than I was!  I`m sure you`ll do fine on this combo and will respond well, and hopefully you won`t be too troubled by side effects.

Best of luck with your first shot, remember to keep yourself well hydrated and it would be sensible to have some pain relief pills ready in case you experience any `flu like` symptoms.

Wishing you a smooth journey towards SVR!  We`ll be here with you all the way through, you can count on our support!  smile

Tig is right, theres still people here doing the "old treatment". I'm one of them. Which drugs are you going to be on? Keep your eyes on the prize in the end.

Fight on!!!

Hi Lisa,

I'm glad that your tests came back good and that treatment is moving forward. While Sovaldi is the newest kid on the block, don't sell the recent SOC's short! I just got notified that my EOT+12 came back SVR12, so those regimens work! You were there supporting me and dozens of others on those treatments and your support carried us through. Now you can count on our support during your journey to SVR. Your words were to always be positive and to realize that attitude means everything. So concentrate on that and remember that it's doable and effective. You're going to beat this thing! I'll see you on the forum favorite, "Friday Night Dart Club"! Chin up....

I just came back from the hospital, and apart from a rise in ASAT all is normal.

It was disappointing that the it is not sorted in the Netherlands for Sofosbivr, it is still going through paper channels and unless it is life or death everyone else has to wait. Over here for a course it will cost 30 thousend Euro which seems a lot of money to me. There is no reason I can't wait another year but enough is enough.

So, rather than wait another year, I start on the old treatment plan probably the end of this week and a nurse comes to my home for the first injection. Paper work is signed, I have 3 nurses to phone whenever I need and my doctor at the hospital and my G.P.

They arranged for me to take my 2 weekly tests just a 10 min walk from my house so I only go to the hosptial for 4 weekly checks ups or if something goes wrong.

So I guess it is the Friday Night Darts club for me after all. Bye Bye Hep C, your days are numbered!
