Thanks for the advice guys and gals.

I have had 4 treatments from my GP including Daktarin oral gel for the thrush and it goes for a few days then rears its head again so I think I will try your advice Tig and definitely like the sound of the chocolate (sweet tooth developing so kills two birds with one stone smile)!!!! Lisa i know what you mean, although the treatment puts you on a roller coaster ride physically and mentally, it still makes you appreciate that there are others going through a tougher ride.

Mindovermatter, he is a real character and has been an absolute angel, learning incredibly quickly when its best for him to shut up and do as he is told biggrinbiggrin. We are laughing still five months in so thats a good sign!!!!

I got the thrush mouthwash from my doctor just in case I need it. I have had a few sores here and there but nothing too annoying yet. She said for me to drink at least two yogurts containing probiotics every day which I haven't done, although I do when I think of it.

Now this sounds weird, but my doctor said its safe and makes sense. If you get the thrush patches inside your mouth (white patches), you can put a dab of canesten cream on them to clear them up. It's for yeast infections which is what thrush is. Tastes awful, works great is what she said.

Good luck Sally... I'm sure your hubby will be very happy with all the catching up conversation you'll have once this clears up. Let him have it!!!!!!

I have a friend that has CML and I think she uses interferon through a hickman line. I was talking to her the other day and she told me she was advised to eat chocolate to stop getting sores in her mouth. She has chemo daily after failing a bone marrow transplant - It makes my problems seem nothing! Anyway, she has never had one mouth sore and swears it is the chocolate. I thought I would share this, you never know? :)

Hi GT,

If you're suffering like I did with sore mouth and throat, I really feel for you! It was some of the worst pain I've had through Tx. First, I have to ask if you've mentioned it to your doctor? These medications cause what is known as "thrush". It's a fungal infection (yeast) that occurs from a reaction to the drugs, very painful! I believed it was a strep throat infection because it can leave the throat with white patches, red and raw tissue, classic severe sore throat and gums. My mouth bled for days.

My doctor prescribed a product called " Magic Mouthwash". It consists of Lidocaine, Benadryl and Nystatin in a viscous solution you gargle or swish with. It's very effective and acts quickly. In the meantime, keep well hydrated and avoid acidy drinks, like OJ, etc. I ate unflavored yogurt (suggested to me here) and it helped calm it down. I also kept a glass of salt water in the fridge to swish around whenever the thought crossed my mind. That helps a lot too. I hope this helps! Good luck!!
