Well from my understanding they check the liver after the inflammation goes down to see if there are any signs of cancer from what i was told. Fibrosis and Cirrosis can lead to cancer. Thats what was explained to me in the beginning.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I was very fortunate that my insurance covered the cost of the Meds and all the follow up labs. They had to reduce my anti rejection med to a level so low that it was not available commercially. The pharmacist at my center has to actually make the dosage in her lab .. I have my follow up appt in Miami early next month and will also see what the plans are for me now. All I can say is I had already called hospice here to ask about their services so I could pass at home ,so you can see how surprised and emotional I was to hear that I may live when I met my transplant doc in Miami in december. I was told that it was easier for me to get the meds from a transplant doc than a regular gastro. Thanks again Charlie

Hi Charlie,

First, I'd like to welcome you to the forum. Second, congratulations on your very good news! That's some of the best information I've heard! I can't tell you how happy I am for you. This new drug treatment is by all means the greatest weapon we've ever had against this beast. It is providing so many new leases on a healthy future. It's almost unbelievable after the hit and miss treatments of the recent past. The fact that your enzymes are in a correction mode and your viral load remains undetectable (following so many old SOC attempts), is exactly the result we're hoping to see world wide! I wish you continued good luck and improving health going forward!

Please feel free to introduce yourself in our New Members section. Our membership would love to hear about you and your inspiring success story!

My name is Charlie and I am new to the group. I live in east central florida and am retired military. I was transplanted in Miami in July 01 and have been through probably all the treatments you have been through to no avail. My transplanted liver was getting close to failing when I received a call from my center to come to Miami as soon as possible. I made the trip a couple days later in the middle of December 13 and they put me on solvaidi and olysio on jan 06 14. I have less than a week to go and my viral was undetected after only two weeks.my geno is 1a My side effects have been non existent compared to RIBA and interferon. So far my alt's and kidney function all seem to be improving with each new set of labs . It appears to me that these drugs have saved my life so far. Good luck to all who can get the treatment ......it really works.. Charlie

Congratulation Richstar on finishing your treatment.  In the word of Dickie V, SVR all the way baby. Was there a point during tx that you noticed improvement in energy levels?  I am also scheduled for an MRI after treatment.  Guess I'll ask my doc why at my next appointment in April.   I had a reaction to the contrast when I had my last one.  Reluctant to do another with contrast.  Hoping you have new found health.  Be well.

I am taking them both at the same time with dinner, that is what the pharmacist suggested. It has worked great. I haven't gotten any side effects, not even tired. Today marks the 3rd day on tx.

Congrats on finishing. I am starting that in a week and looking forward to seeing the end of this disease.

Quick question why the post Tx MRI? I had one prior to treatment being approved.
