Someone mentioned placebo effect as a possible reason for feeling better so quickly but seriously It is day four and that dull throb under my right rib cage is gone. Night itches diminished and I have been sleeping like a baby.
Where can I get some more of this wonderful placebo?

Congrats on getting underway with treatment, David. On the same combo, here. You should do well. The riba kicks my butt a bit, but it's well worth it. Take the pills with food and stay well hydrated throughout the day and you'll sail right on through. And watch the sun exposure until you get a handle on how much the meds are affecting your sensitivity.

I know there's an effort underway in B.C. to get PharmaCare to cover Sovaldi. Hope it moves along more sooner than later and more can get the help they need. Here's a link to the article:

Great news and congrats on obtaining off label tx.

Those of us fortunate to obtain this combo are privileged indeed - so many have to wait.

May the seas be calm and SVR quick for you smile

Way to go Barnacle ... I am so looking forward to your positive results. As soon as I get to see my hepologist, I am insisting on this new protocol for me. I have Sunlife too so it will be covered! No excuses from him this time. I'll contact them myself! Keep me posted on every bit of progress! I'm so excited for you and us Canadians!

Great news David,  one day closer to the cure.  Don't worry to much about the se, they may not be too bad.   Certainly nothing like the Interferon/riba.  Wish I was getting on the water this week. even in high winds and seas. Having commercial fished in the past I really miss it.  Use sunscreen or wear long sleeves until you know how the sun will affect you.  Stay hydrated.

I have no doubts you'll get through this.  You will be a happy camper with the first labs, even more so the second.  In not too many months, this will all be behind you, and it will be life renewed.  smile  Stay focused on the prize.  Those on this regimen have much to be Thankful for.  Someone once said "the best wealth is health"  For those with this disease we know this all too well.   Take care, hoping SVR is in all our futures.

Hi David,

Thats great news! The early results from the members here have been excellent. I wish you could've started earlier as well but now that you've started, your chances of success have never been better and once you've achieved SVR, all indications are showing positive turn around's in fibrosis scores and overall health. Keep us informed of your progress and good luck!

Well after months of being poked, prodded, x-rayed, fibroscanned, MRIed, and basically made to feel like a human pin cushion from all the blood work I took my Sovaldi, simeprivir (Galexo in Canada), and ribavirin this morning.

The clinic nurse said I was the first to get this off-label treatment on Vancouver Island and she seemed as excited as I am to have this treatment started.

My VL is over 2 million and I will post updates on here as things progress. I am so encouraged by all the success stories on here. My GP was waiting out the clock on the treatment as he told me 2 years ago I might want to wait for better meds before starting treatment as he heard they were coming. Unfortunately my liver likely had more damage than he expected and my fibroscan score was F3-4 and my platelet count has been heading to the basement over the past year or so. I think I am here just in the nick of time.

I was able to get this Rx because of my private health insurance (Sun Life) which my Dr says is about the best there is. The public health care plan is still a ways from approving these expensive drugs but with the high success rate others have been showing I expect it won't be too long. I'm just grateful I didn't have to wait for that as I may not have made it.

I owe a lot to the people of this forum. Without the knowledge base here I would not have insisted on this course of treatment and would have let my Dr put me on a 48wk interferon based Tx instead. Thanks all.

Oh and I just found out that I have to go out to sea off the west coast this week in gale force winds. At least I will have an excuse for any nausea I might experience ;) This might be a long week.....
