You are right.  I should have said functionally cured which is long term undetectable virus.  I just got the results of my two weeks results and I am a bit excited.  Best of luck to you and thanks for responding!

As a G3 they don't bother with the testing as it is a standard 80% cure rate for my genotype. It is actually less success rates on the new treatments for G3, unless they can perscribe Daclasvir and Sofosbuvir off script which isn't available here. As I am interferon tolerant - no fevers etc, I probably have the same side effects as with sofosbuvir and Ribaviren. I look forward to joining you in undetected soon. :D

Hi Jim,

Sorry to be a pedantic pain, but the word 'cure' is not used in HCV treatment. You may have Undetectable virus, and I hope it stays that way. The damage to the liver and other organs may persist, so 'cure' is a relative thing.

It's great that drugs like Sovaldi are effective even with unfavorable IL28B genotypes. Cheers.

Thank you so much.  Did you have the genetic testing to see if you have the preferred CC genotype?  It is terrible to go through the interferon side effects if the treatment is futile.  Very best of luck.

Oh Jim that is great news....It really makes my heart sing to hear that there is a much easier route! I'm almost two weeks into the old Intereferon as the options are not available in the Netherlands. Every success is one less person that will have to do the old treatment plans. A huge congratualtions :D

After failing two attempts at treatment over the last 15 years I have been cured in less than two weeks.  I have the unfavorable genotype TT near the Il28b gene so I had a very poor response to interferon which is why the previous two attempts at treatment failed.  Five weeks ago I started a clinical trial for co-infected people of sofosbuvir and ledispavir.  At entry my viril load was 1.6 million.  At seven days it was below 25.  At 14 days the target was not detected, i.e. no virus could be found.  There were no side effects except for feeling better right away.  Although I was functionally cured at 14 days I will continue taking the once a day pills for the full 12 weeks.  Bad news, if I had to pay for the drugs the cure would have been about $168,000.  So rejoice, a quick interferon free cure is completely real.  Best of luck to you all.

Jim

P.S.  I had hep c 1b but I've been told it works for hep c 1-6
