Hi Turnsit:

Your diet sounds very healthy but 400 mg of sodium per day must be hard to do.  I know you are eating lots of fresh veggies but how do you get enough calories and do you eat much protein?

I also limit my sodium but only try to aim for <1000 mg per day and that takes some effort.  You must be very disciplined.

I really like the water fusions,  I cut up oranges, limes, lemons, and mint......and put one or any combo in cold water....I keep it in the fridge,,,it's cold and very satisfying,,,,I am a sugar addict....and this is working really for me....I did add sugar the first pitcher I made,,,but it didnt taste right,,,so no sugar...

so no more sweet teas....I do like coffee in the morning with sugar...but that's it...never liked soda....hope I can kick a few more pounds....lol

How much sodium is in gatorade? Gatorade has a substantial amount of both sodium and sugar.  There is a "lighter" version of Gatorade that isn't quite as bad (about 110 grams sodium and 5 grams sugar for 8 oz) but still I would drink water to hydrate instead (or iced tea without sugar).  If you want electrolytes you can get electrolyte infused water.

I drank a ton of koolade  and it never caused me any noticeable issues, not saying the sugar may not effect some, but it didn't for me and helped me stay hydrated,  im surprised to hear steve is having so much difficulty with this tx? May be I was just really lucky.

Anyway hang in there it's worth it.

Hope you are doing well. I've got two weeks tonight of s/o only pills down. I've had more side effects than most. I try to remember how bad the interferon was And this is a picknic compared to that. My exposed skin does not burn but the sun makes it sting. I don't like to take tylenol but the headakes require it. Keep liquids around and drink sweet drinks for fatigue.

keep us informed and I wish you luck.

 Hi Steverino:

I am just wondering if the sweet drinks--I am assuming they contain plenty of sugar--might not be making things worse.   Could be exacerbating the head aches.  I wonder what would happen if you stopped drinking them.

Hi Tricia and Welcome!

Don't worry about this treatment you are starting. Try to enjoy the ride of eliminating this virus for good. To emphasize what others have said, definitely stay out of the sun as I'm very susceptible to burning easily and it makes my eyes itch. Furthermore, drinking at least two liters of water a day will likely keep most side effects to a minimum.

Congrats and keep us posted. You will probably notice many improvements after the first week on the meds.

Hi Tricia,

Welcome, welcome!!!! I'm surprised Humana approved you as well, but it's nice to see they are realizing the importance of this treatment now. Whenever luck rolls your way, accept it with a big smile on your face!

You're so fortunate to receive these blockbuster medications. They have proven successful for so many. They offer few, if any, of the nasty Interferon side effects. The two things that I've seen most beneficial is to limit your sun exposure, because Olysio can cause sun sensitivity, and  proper hydration. Try to consume at least 2-3 liters of good quality water everyday.

Eat a balanced diet, hydrate and don't miss any doses of medication and this will be over before you know it! Good luck!

Hi Tricia, welcome from me too, and it`s good to hear you`re all ready to start your treatment.

I think most people feel like you do beforehand and it will probably be a big relief once you`ve taken your first few pills.  I`m sure you`ll find it so much easier than your previous treatment not having to do the interferon shots.

Olysio/Sovaldi is an excellent drug combo and it`s true that many people get an undetected result after 4 weeks although sometimes it takes a bit longer so do bear that in mind.

You`ll find plenty of friendly support here so do stay in touch... and best of luck!  smile

Starting this treatment tomorrow. Wide awake guess a bit nervous. I have wanted to try it as I was tagged an interferon failure years ago but never thought a new drug would actually get out in time for me. I am excited to start but also nervous. Doctor says viral load usually undetectable with new drugs within four weeks. I am stage 4 so praying this one works. The birds are chirping and the hospital will be delivering the meds today and will start this evening. For anyone on Humana insurance I had been told last year they would not cover this treatment but they approved me on first try and a friend of mine after an appeal. My doctor had told me Humana would not let me treat so if you are in this boat double check.
