Thanks guys for your responses. I spoke with the pharmacist and he also said that throwing up 7 - 8 hours after ingestion, should not have an affect.

Ha, ha! Yeah, the porcelain Greyhound? That's good Lee! With the advent of the Tablet, it's much easier to drive the bus now with one of them as your wheel... But I agree completely, Malcolm does provide us with plenty of great information to read, regardless of where you get to do it!

Mallani gives us much to think about while 'driving the porcelain Greyhound (bus)'....hope that is not an American expression and not easily understood!

Sovaldi is absorbed from the small intestine. Like most drugs, there is little absorption in the stomach, due to the thick mucosa and rapid transit time.

The coating of the pill is to resist the gastric acid. This coating ( called an enteric coating) is dissolved by the acid, making the active drug available when the drug reached the small bowel. The acidity gradually drops from the duodenum (pH 4) to the terminal ileum (pH 8). Some drugs are best absorbed at a certain pH so various drugs are absorbed at certain points in the small bowel. The process is mostly by passive diffusion across a membrane, but some drugs and vitamins have active transporters.

Sovaldi is mostly absorbed within 2 hours of ingestion. This is why the instructions are to repeat the dose if vomiting occurs within 2 hours, but if more than 2 hours, don't worry. Cheers.

It was mallani that told me about the 2 hour time frame and the plasma has a half life of 27 hours.

Thanks guys for your responses. From what I saw, the Sovaldi is time released because it had swollen to almost three times the normal size. It actually looked like a piece of plastic.

Interesting.  Does all time released medicine actually swell up and what causes that?  I've never heard of this before.

Sovaldi is quickly absorbed and into the liver within 2 hours. As I have learned from others here.

Thanks guys for your responses. From what I saw, the Sovaldi is time released because it had swollen to almost three times the normal size. It actually looked like a piece of plastic.

I would, if I ever threw up again, pick it up and swallow it again.

It wasn't the medicine that made me sick, it was a stomach virus.

Well, at least my numbers didn't go up. I pray for undetected on the next round. Have a great day guys.

Hi Debra,

It can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour for a pill to be absorbed in the stomach. Of course it's going to depend on the stomach contents when the medication is taken. Some medication is designed to pass through the stomach and be absorbed (digested) in the intestinal tract. A pill with an enteric coating is an example of such a medication. So certainly after several hours, you had no risk of throwing up the medication or any part of it.

Hi Debra,

According to Gilead's Sovaldi information it sounds like they are more concerned about an overdose, and less so for an "underdose".    When I was on the Interferon+Riba+Victrellis tx I missed a dose, and was mortified, but was reassured that all was not lost.

I think that you are O.K., but as always it's best to inform your doctor.

If you threw up 7 or 8 hrs. after taking your Sovadi you should be alright. Unless there time released? Did you see the pills? I didn't throw up or even get that kind of sick on my tx. But I was ready to puke in my hands and take those pills again. I was gonna show the tx and hepc who was boss!!! So I guess you know what to do if you should puke right after taking them biggrin

When I was sick last week, twice I threw up my Sovaldi about 7 or 8 hours after I had taken it. I had my blood drawn on Tuesday which was2 days into week 5 and my numbers didn't change. I'm still at less than 43. Should I be concerned? Could , my throwing up those 2 pills truly have an effect? Thanks for your responses.
