Hi Mellani

the nurse definitely said it is Simeprvir.  Her first patients start in 4 weeks.  She indicated that the various treatment centres will be starting with 10 patients each.

Hi Paul,

I presume you're referring to Olysio. This drug was FDA approved for use with Peg/Riba, but we haven't seen a single US patient on this. It's only been used off-label with Sovaldi.

Why should we use it? It's probably no better than Victrelis, and may be worse. Sure the pill burden is lower, but I'm sure it costs more than Victrelis(? double).

Victrelis is still being prescribed in Queensland and I haven't heard of anyone who is about to start Olysio. If I was waiting for treatment, I'd give it a miss. Cheers.

Hey Tig

I mentioned it in the opening post of the thread.  No such luck with Solvadi here in OZ.  Simeprvir is the new wonder drug for us.

So my nurse informed me that she has drugs to start 10 patients at the end of October.  At this stage drugs are being provided gratis by the pharmaceutical company.  The expectation is that it will make the PBS by December.

Victrelis did me right, peg/inf did weird things and Ribavirin made me crazy[er].

Thank God that the triple tx came available....now goodbye!

So I am into week 15 and for the last two days I have felt reasonably good... as opposed to totally smashed.  Hope it continues as I need a little respite.

Hi Mal

Well the word out of the horse's mouth says it is all go in October.  So maybe I have a scoop for the forum !

Anyhow, as far as I am concerned, I have 13 weeks complete with great results so I think I would keep that over the unknown.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Although Simeprevir has been approved by the PBAC, it actually hasn't made it to the PBS as yet. The mind boggles- the same group approved Simeprevir (~$66k for 12 weeks) but rejected Sovaldi (~$84k for 12 weeks), saying it was too expensive! The two drugs are like chalk and cheese.

Agreed the pill burden with Simeprevir is less, but the SVR rate for cirrhotics remains doubtful. You may even have the Q80K polymorphism. IMHO it's not much better than Victrelis, and is twice the price.

You're doing fine with dear old Victrelis, and as we discussed, you probably didn't need a DAA. Cheers.

And the telaprevirans too !  Had a discussion with my nurse today during which she informed me that she was ditching her old DAAs and commencing Simeprvir.  Sometime next month apparently.

So had I known when I started Victrelis triple I could have waited and had a tx duration of 24 weeks rather than 48.  And 1 pill per day as opposed to 12 (plus Peg/Rib)

Oh well.  Can't do anything about that.

Best wishes to all those here in OZ who are fortunate enough to have timed it for the latest tx. Seems I will go down as one of the last to undergo the old Victrelis triple.
