 Hi Malcolm   It is great to read about you test results. You platelet counts are outstanding and you sound like you have recovered very well after you treatment. And whether you believe the fibroscan readings or not it sounds like your liver has improved dramatically . Have you ever looked at a product like Chanka Piedra for your gall stones ? It is all natural and you might want to read up on it.

BigPharma: 18 months ago, my gallbladder was packed with gallstones, with the largest being 1.8cm in diameter. Yesterday my gallbladder was about 25% full of stones, with the largest measuring 8mm in diameter. My diet has changed somewhat over the last 3 years- less sugar, less fat but plenty of fruit, steak and fish. Gallstones can shrink and even disappear.

Mark: My followup Fibroscan after 1.5 years post-Rx showed a reading of 8.8 kPa (down from 30.1 in 2008). I don't believe it as I have stated in other posts. I don't regard a biopsy as invasive- I've had 3 and performed several hundred (if not thousands). Performed properly and assessed by a competent pathologist, for me they remain the only true way to assess the liver. Many will disagree.

JoAnneh: Thanks mate. I know you don't want another biopsy, but if you could get a Fibroscan it would be well under 10. Cheers.

Great news! I go back in October for ultra sound and blood work.
I want to post my results, I will ask for my test results!

Great results have you had another fibroscan ? wound would not be keen on a biopsy it is invasive and surely only justified if it is to determine treatment  rather than confirm progression of recoveryCongratulations again you are living proof that cirrhotics can improve after treatment an inspiration for many I still remember when I was first diagnosed cirrhotic the nurse telling me it would never improve and that I would not expect to ever feel any better that the aim now was to slow progression  it was a depressing prognosis and you are proof that she was clearly wrong gives hope to me and many others I am sure

 Wow! What have you been doing to decrement your gallstones?  My last US in July2014 showed my gallbladder is filled by 2/3 with stones. confuse

I hope they diminish too biggrin

This is great news Malcolm! I also am in awe of your platelets. smile

That's good to know that ultrasounds have gotten better. Part of me prefers a MRI but more of me likes the simplicity of an ultrasound.

Thanks guys.

For me, liver ultrasound was not my favored imaging modality. I mostly had MRI or CT checks from 2000 to 2010, as I was difficult to scan.

For some reason, it is now easy to see my whole liver. The latest Ultrasound machines/probes have helped. I am now confident I can see any liver lesion up to ~5mm and this is good enough for me.

My longstanding 12mm lesion in Segment 2 was very easy to see. It had been called an atypical haemangioma for the last 10 years, but yesterday we could see normal liver passing through it, so it is almost certainly an odd regenerating nodule.

I am fortunate that I can get the same Sonographer to do my scans. Measurement of the liver and spleen is very subjective and 10 Sonographers would give 10 different readings. This is why I can say my liver is 2cm smaller since 2011.

Just as an aside, my gallstones are much smaller. I have seen gallstones disappear in other patients. I'm not claiming this has anything to do with SVR, but it's just a suggestion to ignore gallstones unless they are causing trouble. Avoid surgeons if possible!

I can well understand why you`re considering having another biopsy done, that would seem to make good sense.

Oh yes, a biopsy would be a great indication of reversal of cirrhosis and a boost to all of us in the same boat. I'd be excited to know the result. Great job Malcolm.

Hi all,

EOT was Feb 2013, so just had another 6 monthly labs and Ultrasound followup. Bloods all normal (ALT-31, Platelets 290k).

Very happy to see my liver is smaller, no HCC, and spleen is also smaller. The echopattern is completely normal, so I'm taking that as continued resolution of fibrosis.

The 6 monthly followups are a bit of a pain, so I'm tempted to get a biopsy to see if I need to continue.

Cheers to all the cirrhotics with SVR!
