Here's some additional info that may help explain the disease and treatment process:

Hi Salty,

It doesn't sound like your BF's doctor has treated him with the correct treatment protocol. Sovaldi/Riba are indicated for Genotypes 2 and 3. It should've included Peg Interferon, if they had followed established guidelines. The new recommended treatments for GT 1 are Harvoni and Viekira Pak. But there some others less frequently used with the latest blockbusters on the market.

I'm not a physician, but it's my opinion that he didn't fail to become undetected because of the OTC medication problem, but the incorrect protocol. I'm sure the drug problem hasn't helped his health at all. I would recommend discussing this information with his doctor and ask why this protocol was selected when the guidelines are easily found. I'm including a link to the Sovaldi manufacturers insert, which will describe the drugs uses better.

My boyfriend was placed on a 12 week treatment of Solvaldi/Ribo for his type 2 geno. He has 10 days of treatment left but at the last visit they told him his count was not where they expected it to be. He is not one to ask any questions and has no idea what his viral load is or was. His doctor doesn't provide him with his test results but I am not sure why? My concern is that he is an addict and relapsed on OTC medications over the course of his treatment; excessive doses of Benedryl, Nyquil, Dayquil, etc. I am wondering if his relapse has destroyed his treatment. From all the research I have done I expected his viral load to be undetectable at this point. Is it a normal occurrence to still have a detectable viral load this late in the treatment? Thank you for any and all advice you can give.
