Greetings,

One thing to consider, while on any of the treatments that use DAA's is interaction with other meds. In my opinion the jury is still out on some due to the recent developments that have limited historic data.

That said, I believe the natural approach in many cases is the best course of action if available. In this case I would say Eucalyptus Oil may well be worth a shot. It is some pretty good stuff and is even an antibacterial which comes as a surprise to many.

Am I saying it will work? Nope.

Am I saying it is worth a try? Yep.

All the best to The Family!

JimmyK

To the best of my knowledge and research on it, the risk of excess sodium absorption is quite low when the solution is balanced to match your bodily tissues. The other thing that limits it, is to assure you aren't ingesting the solution. Closing the palate and proper angle can limit that. One article I read said that some sodium is absorbed, but typically less than 100mgs per flush. The advantages and benefits generally far outweigh the small amount of sodium absorbed and shouldn't have any adverse effects on a cirrhotic liver. However, it should always be a consideration when planning your total low sodium intake. I'm glad it gave you the relief you were hoping for!

Hi, whilst a netipot really worked for me in terms of clearing up a persistent sinus drip I had.

Looking back I've often wondered if the salt got into my bloodstream via the nasal membranes and sped up my cirrhosis.

Lots of salt is never a kind thing for the liver...

Try using a neti pot as well. I find it helpful for allergy season and sinus headaches.

I had sinus issues too during tx - far worse than usual and it  post treatment. Have just finished second round of antibiotics and will be trying a natural nasal spray now I am off tx with hopes of stopping a reoccurrence.

Like Mugsy, I have used a salt water nasal rinse and found it effective, but needed something more to really get on top of it.

All the best for finding a solution that works for you Steve

I really battled sinus problems during treatment. In my 12 weeks of treatment, I went through 3 bottle of saline nasal spray. It really worked well for me and it's just salt water.

Thanks for all of the help with this. I have chronic sinus issues year round. I have only taken 1 Benedryl so far, and will be judicious with it going forward.

Thanks for the help!

If I hadn't used Benadryl while on treatment, I would've been uncomfortable. I had Riba rash and it just made you itch. I didn't abuse it and did find Zyrtec (Certrezine) helped me a lot as well. Both were authorized at the time, but a lot of drugs have chànged, so it remains important to let your doc know about everything you take. To do otherwise could risk your response to treatment. We can recommend some topical lotions, like Oatmeal bath treatments, hydrocortisone creams, calamine, Caladryl lotion. You're right, we have to be careful of what we put in our body. I have had my share of nasal issues, so I can relate to that and hate it!

Tig, some Ibuprofen-based drugs contains diphenhydramine. I saw in pharamacy. There was like 200mg Ibuprofen/ 25mg diphenhydramine capsules - it was imprinted in my brain . You are right...
BTW it makes no difference for Benadrlyn - 100% diphenhydramine chloride. It's dangerous for people with hepatic problems. There's more antihistamine drugs of third or forth generation with less contradictions.

Hey MM,

Check your source. Benadryl is an antihistamine and Ibuprofen is an NSAID (non steroidal anti inflammatory). Unless a drug specifically states a combination of the two together, they don't share similar pharmacologic values or compounds.

Benadryl contains the antihistamine diphenhydramine, the same as Ibuprofen. My doctor doesn't recommend it for patiens with hepatic problems. There's no restrictions to use it with Harvoni but it could affect your platelets level. I my case it was strict for Ibuprofen. Tylenol is much preferable even it affects liver too. Do not overdose.
After therapy I used once the generic antihistamine diphenhydramine and had some internal bleeding (I wasn't aware about the component, didn't read the side-effects - my fault).
The best way is to consult your gastroenterologist (hepatologist). Gliead will forward you to your doctor... I know, I tried
In my case pharmacist provided bad consulting... So, it is only your doctor and check the site Tig provided you.

Good luck

Hi Steve,

We can't provide medical advice, especially when it comes to medication and adverse reactions. What I can do, is say I haven't heard of any problems between them and will direct you to a website that provides an excellent drug interaction checker. Aleve is hard on the liver, so I would limit it's use for extended periods for the time being. I have to add that you should always ask your doctor or pharmacist before adding any new drugs to your regimen. You can also call Gilead's patient representative for their advise as well. I hope you get over that soon, seems to be a bad year for it.

I can't find out if I can take Benedryl while on Harvoni and need some feedback.  Has anyone been on Harvoni treatment and taken Benedryl? I have a bad allergy or cold,  the frigging weather keeps changing.

Also, Aleve as well,  I know about the dangers of Alleve with bleeding, but am wondering about interaction with Harvoni only.

It is the weekend and my doctors office is closed as well as the Gilead hotline.

Any info or help would be appreciated,  thanks...
