Hi Libby,

A warm welcome to the forum from me too (another 3a).

Firstly, let me congratulate you on beating cancer! A very great event.

Secondly - YAY! that you have been approved for sof/dac, and better yet, that it will only costs you $5 per month - a wonderful state of affairs! You must be feeling pretty happy, hopeful, excited right about now, about gaining your liver health back from hep C!

That must have been a long 5 month wait, to find out you were going to be covered, after being told you were not. Dreams DO come true - you ARE beating odds, and will continue to do so, the stars must be aligned for you! YOU are on a roll!. And you are lucky to get sof/dac, and you should not see your fear of sides materialize.

A very happy Saturday to you, with that first pill down the hatch, you are on your way!

I don't think you mentioned for how long your planned sof/dac treatment period is supposed to be? .... and , you said your "fibrosis scan" stage was F1, can you clarify this? - did you mean you actually had a "fibroscan" and that your fibroscan score is "F1"??

I agree with robertsamx, I too like to see GT3's being treated with goods drugs for long enough.

We'll be thinking of you, starting on your way, on SATURDAY. Nice! smile C.

Hi Libby, welcome to the forum. I'm a 3a also.  The Dac-Sof combo was trialed pretty extensively on geno 3"s.  The 12 week results for T/N was 90%, and 86% for T/E.  I don't believe this trual included patients with cirrhosis.

My concern for you would be the 30 years you have had the virus. Type 3 is very aggressive. Have you had a Fibroscan?  You mention a Fibrosis test? If it is the blood test, it's just a well educated guess. Demand a fibroscan to get a true assessment of your liver condition.

My advice to any type 3 with 30 years  of this disease would be Sof-dac 24 weeks. Adding riba only improves the odds by 2-3%   Skip the riba if you can.

You also need to be aware of the new triple coming early next year Sof-vel-vox  It will fall in the 95-99% svr

Also a new combo   Sof-vel   Should be  90-99%  That will happen this year.

And there a couple others getting close that are made by Abbie , that hav 90+ svr

Its a good time to get treated, the side affects are nothing compared to the RIBA-Peg days!

 Hi Robert,

I think it was my doctor that told me that pre-menopausal females have protection from Estrogen that protects the liver from disease advancement. So it is not uncommon for females to stay healthier longer than males with genotype 3. However, this can change once menopause begins without hormone replacement therapy. Males tend to have a more aggressive advancement with geno 3. So its much better for females of any genotype to treat before that occurs. :)

Hi everyone,

I have finally been approved for treatment.  I have been waiting for a treatment that would not make me sick. I am an cancer survivor, so I am praying for no horrible side effects. I beat the odds on that and now I want this gone! I was told in the beginning by my insurance company that they would not pay.  That was 5 months ago...Just got the phone call today I was approved and both manufacturers are helping.  It is only costing me $5 a month.  It is like a dream come true.  I am an cancer survivor, so I am praying for no horrible side effects.  Fingers crossed. I am hoping I can keep up my exercise routine and my full-time job. I go to my doctors Friday and start the meds on Saturday.

Thank you for this forum. Reading all the posts has helped me a lot.  I hope to be free I don't this on my mind any longer.

Hi Libby, I am a fellow Geno 3 and also approved for Dac/Sof and start on the 21st of this month, so we will treat about the same time. I have been with my Doctor since diagnoses a few years back, and she is always happy to share other patient experiences with me on this combination. In her experience so far she has had no reported side affects and half the patients wonder why they are even asked in every month for blood checks. I honestly think we will hardly notice any side effects. The general advice real users give is keep your body flushed with water, so a few litres a day, do not use any suppliments just eat healthy to obtain vitamins. That will prevent any side affects like headaches ot tummy issues. Generally people get the first few days a feeling because they have to adjust to meds, but there is not one adverse affect reported.

I am sorry to hear you had cancer, and happy you have beaten it. This treatment will be a breeze in comparison to any chemo or radiation treatment.

Welcome aboard the treatment train, I'll save you a seat. :D
