Congratz Alan and Phil !!

Hoping to join the UND group myself but am a bit disheartened that at 12 weeks I was still showing small VL of 40. I don't know what the stats are for people with low VL at 12 weeks that cleared by week 24. Like Malcolm said to me, with cirrhosis it's a different set of rules. The meds have a longer time to work through the liver/body entirely I suppose. Anyway, fingers still crossed that the dragon will be slain. If not this year then within the next 2 once the new families of drugs start to appear. Was excited to see a new approach being taken focusing on the host cell as opposed to going after the virus itself...a new and novel approach and as long as these pharmaceutical companies see a profit to be made on our misfortune then they will continue to find ways to kill the virus.

Whoo-hoooo!!  For Phil AND Alan! I'm SO happy for you both!  We've been getting a mixture of good and bad news lately here; I'm so sorry for all who have relapsed after such a rough time on this harsh tx.  But as has been mentioned, we do need to hear ALL the results, both good and bad.  Everyone's still learning with this virus; there will always be newer and better txs.  We all were the test subjects with Victrelis and Incivek.

I just wish all of us could have stayed UND. It tears me up each time I hear a report of virus found. Thank goodness the trials continue, and the treatments seem to be getting better.

Well done, Alan. Now relax until the next test. I am very happy for you, yet so sad for those lately with not so good news.

Hello, Phil

Even though I am a month late, congrats on a fine set of labs. Guess what! I just joined you. The CRNP just sent me an email with one word in like a 48 pt. font saying ZERO!!!!!

Feels real good. We some bad, virus killing son-of-a-guns.

Excellent news, Phil!  My dr also says it's not an exact science.  For the record, my Riba was reduced at Week 4 from 1200 mg to 800 mg daily.  It was always the generic Riba.  I also had to take a 1-week break from PegIntron.  And then had to stop in the middle of Week 23.

Still <43 NOT DETECTED. No declaration of SVR by my doctor, as he uses both 12 and 24 week tests, but don't see him til next month.

All other blood work (CBC and Hepatic Function Panel) are normal for the first time in at least 15 years. ALT and AST at 21 and 15, down from 200 and 300.

Generally feel pretty good and relatively normal. Activity and strength back up to near normal, which isn't exactly anything to brag about. So has weight. Grown out of the skinny clothes I had to buy during tx. Some pre-existing things seem to be a little more pronounced, or at least I'm noticing them more - mainly sinus problems, tinnitus, and back pain.

Got off blood pressure meds towards the end of tx, but have restarted them. Coffee consumption is back up, weight has increased, and I have rediscovered the stress of work and life in general.

If it helps anyone's concerns during tx: My riba was reduced from 1000 to 600 at week 17 for the remainder of tx, and it was mostly generic stuff. I also did a 5 week lead in instead of 4, so only did 23 weeks of Victrelis instead of 24. To quote my doctor, its not an exact science.

Phil,   glad to hear that you're still UND and that the LIFE forces are trickling back into your body.        A few weeks after halting tx I noticed my BP running high-er than I liked(was great while on-treat), so went back on my Hydrochlorothiazide med.

That is excellent news, Phil, really pleased for you!  biggrin Great to hear you`re feeling so much better and stronger...just try to go a bit easy on yourself and keep those stress levels under control, it can be a shock to the system getting back into "normal" life after tx.   smile

All the best, onwards to SVR!  thumbsup.gif  Jill xx
